I'm about to make Hawke do so, but I'm worried that doing that with the intention of actually DOING A ROMANCE with someone else could cause issues (in this case I'm wanting to do casual rutting with Isabella and then romance Merrill). Like that one about Varric saying Hawke stayed with Isabella at the end of the game even if you was in a romance with another character, I'd like to know if doing what I'm about to do is what causes that.

I don't know anything about that but you might want to take protection, Pirates tend to dock in unsavoury places (sorry just had to do it)

Romancing Merrill or Anders after having sex with Isabela should be fine. A fling with the pirate is more likely to break Fenris' romance. Note that after sleeping with Merrill and having her move in with you, you are stuck with her and cannot switch to someone else.

I know that much. But a quick tumble for fun when offered will fit my sarcastic rogue Hawke too perfectly to not do. Merrill will be the serious relationship that is more than simple fun.

Um... Is there any glitches for picking the options for romance but then choosing someone else, or for actually not bringing feelings into it in the dialog? Basically, will either option cause problems down the road? I plan to not pick the romance options, just make it clear that it was just "rutting".

It's not a glitch, you find out that Isabela is a Honeybadger in disguise. Poor, poor Hawke....

You can still romance Fenris after Isabela, but you have to do it this way: Isabela -> Anders or Merrill -> Fenris.

 

Forgot to add - for extra lulz, romance Isabela before talking to Anders for the first time in Act 2, then walk into his clinic without having Isabela in your party.

Bringing up feelings or not should not matter, because Merrill or Anders override the other two romances when they sleep with Hawke and move in. It's Isabela's romance which can no longer be completed if you move on to someone else or don't bring up love and feelings.

 

You can still romance Fenris after Isabela, but you have to do it this way: Isabela -> Anders or Merrill -> Fenris.

 

Some people have done this, yes, but for others this seems to have made Fenris' romance inaccessible. I believe you have to avoid talking to Fenris in A2 until you've slept with the other characters for this to work. It can be tricky and if you do something in the wrong order you will lose your chance. So generally it's safest to resist temptation on the side if you want to be sure you don't end up stuck without a way to proceed the romance of your choosing.

Probably not. It will just imply that Isabela gave Hawke an STD as well because she is getting treatment afterwards.
