I quite enjoy my Smash happy melee whips Adept, but Phantom's bubble of denial and Praetorians give him real trouble unless I'm soloing.

Once that Phantom bubble goes up what's the best way to damage her? I really don't enjoy the Acolyte on him when fighting anything else.

Is there another weapon, ideally a pistol because I like the stunner and power mag mods for him, that might work to combat them? I always use consumables so any combination of weapon and ammo is useful knowledge.

Scorpion. Damage Barrel and clip extension, really doesn't matter what ammo type.

Use lash on phantoms. It's super effective

Look at the ground before you smash phantoms. They only put up the bubble if you activate your power with the red targeting marker around them. Space crabs are a little smarter, but I wouldn't be smashing them either. Personally I use the CSMG on him with incendiary rounds. Shoot the phantom to make her flip, when she lands you lash her and while she's ragdolled you smash her for biotic boom. If you accidentally trigger the bubble, just wait for it to go down and then lash and repeat above steps.

First off, I applaud you for liking the stylish smashdept.

Use lash to make a mockery of phantoms. Use it when they're flipping and toy with them.

Not sure if you know this but smash primes through all power blocking bubbles. So, even though the bubble blocks damage, the target will be primed for a BE.

As for weapons, I like the eagle with heavy barrel and power amp, with warp ammo. Low CD lets you pull off interesting things with his powers.

If you want to use power amp and melee stunner, scorpion and acolyte are the best choices. However, I find his vanguard brother more suitable for melee.

I recommend Singularity+Lash. Then finish what's left with smash. Really makes Phantoms a joke.

For my experience, Singularity is nearly a must as it's perfect crowd control and primer BE's. And with group of enemies affected by singularity and then smash..... beautiful.

This is how I use my Ex-Cerberus Adept. (Can't remember my weapon mods right now).

And here I've learned something new. Wow. So I can smash-prime a bubbled phantom and lash-detonate her a$$? Cool.

As for weapon - what about the executioner? You can attach a power mag and a stunner and have inate armor piercing. I'm sure you can hide the reload in the long power casting animations.

Singularity is one of the best anti-Phantom tools on the game.  Shoot the Singularity at them, they bubble up, you shoot them to drop their barriers, and then Smash them into oblivion.  Or just Lash them for a BE.

EDIT:  For Praetorians, just make them land before you attack them, hit them with a Singularity, and Smash them.  Make sure you are ready to Smash-cancel by rolling away from the Praetorian so you don't get stagger-eaten.

Yeah. Enemy bubbles are as cheap as it gets. Also, Smash is pretty weak. I mean Charge-Smash will not instantly kill a Marauder on Gold? With a power amp on my Talon and power amplifier consumable? C'mon! Smash should instanly kill any shielded mook n one go, Phantoms included. You gotta have balls to charge into the thick of things to use it's pathetic range. But you get punished for that.

The trick is to never let her bubble go up in the first place, unless you want her to sit still so you can shoot her.  Any time you activate a power while targeting her, she will put up the bubble.  So, with Smash, face your cursor down or up or to the side or whatever so you aren't targeting her, begin the Smash, and then turn to her so your whips hit her.  Boom.

Like miniditka, I like Singularity + Talon to the face until her barrier is down, then Smash or Lash her floaty butt. Lash with Shield penetration is also good as a first move, but remember to finish her off with Smash or you'll fling her behind you and she'll wind up sporking someone.

For Praetorians I step out of cover (1) to make the Praetorian (P) land before a corner, Singularity, step back into cover (2), shoot a bit during cooldown, then Smash. By this time they're rounding the corner, so retreat a bit (hopefully around another piece of substantial cover (3), and repeat.

Ad me to the list...i didn't know this either. And while i don;t use the Adept, (i use the phoenix vanguard) i can still use this strategy to get rid of phantoms. For the most part i will use incendiary with the lancer, prime her with it, hit her with BC, roll out of the way while she's stunned, prime her again, and finish her off with another BC/BE.

Multiple phantoms are a problem and i'll most likely back peddle while firing, and hitting them with either smash or lash, but i won't charge into a group of phantoms, because you are just committing suicide doin' that. I can take on two phantoms half the time if the game mechanics are functioning properly without any cheap BS going on, but three phantoms staring me down?...i'm either doing a 360 (or is that a 180?) or they are eating rockets for lunch.

Strategies here in this thread are sound, but i don't like to carry more than one gun for my phoenix...i need my cooldowns to be as low as possible...i love the lancer on him.

You can also use Smash to set up tech explosions, if you use that evolution from smash (4b). This makes Smash quite versatile skill. That being said, most people use biotic evolution as Ex-Cerberus guys other skills are biotic too.

I use that evolution because of its damage over time. Seems to do more overall damage. It can be used to detonate biotic explosions and also set off tech blasts.

For Phantoms I mostly fling them around with Lash. Shield penetration is amazing. they bubble up I shoot 'em up.

Wait, everyone here knows about stopping a Pretorian first before going power focus, right?... Oh well, there's always Drill Ammo. Heck, I'm even the one beating the pugs to it in making it go up when Drill Ammo is around.

Easy, just change team and kill the teammate that put up the bubble on that crab.

Completely off topic but I wish you could lash Crabs. I also wish all enemies exploded upon death, maybe I would tire of that after a while though.
