MORE HYENAS!

As I said in my first post, I'll be doing a series of Tabletop Animal Idols - how many different animals depends upon how much time I have this month.

Naturally, obviously, I have started with the Greatest Animal in the whole Galaxy (he raved without bias of any kind) - The Supreme Animal, the perfect life form, the single most glorious and powerful creature in the entire cosmos, the most blisteringly brilliant pinnacle of all evolution throughout Time and Space, the ultimate organism, destined to exterminate the lesser species, conquer the universe, dominate all other forms of life and take its rightful place as the SUPREME BEING! - The HYENA!

HyenaIdol.jpg

(Pretend there are another nine or ten paragraphs of rabid dribble extolling the wonders of Hyenas here, with scientific diagrams depicting their supremeness).

I'm not certain if these are quite the right size for tabletop idols yet. I don't want to make things so small they're just little grey blobs easily concealed behind a small book, but equally they've got to be small enough to fit on desks and things. I may adjust size further as well as textures. Whilst I'm not going to clutter the thread up with a post about every single different animal, I thought I'd just give you an indication of what rubbish I'm doing...

However, since I have to start with socking great big animals in order to make little shelf animals, I might just as well do a series of Socking Dirty Great Big Animal Statues as well as small ones...

HyenaStat.jpg

I mean, in the context of the whole cosmos, a statue is a very small detail indeed.

I seem to recall MerricksDad pretty much covered Lumpy Things from which Gems can be Thieved in an earlier CCC, didn't he? What exactly did you have in mind, Werelynx, when you say empty sockets?

Not sure if I'll have time to implement some sort of receptacle system for zoomorphic statues this month. Still grappling with getting the second ALIEN Hak on the Vault at the moment before getting back to Animals on Shelves (of which there are eight and counting - the Carcharodon carcharias being my favourite so far... And before certain individuals - yes, I am looking at you, Tarot - ask me less than subtly about cats yet again, there's a Leaping Panther statue I think will keep you happy for a while...)

PS:- BioWare's sarcophagi are lootable, aren't they?

<Nose in air, tip of tail flicking irritably>

I only asked the once. Hmmph! Anyone would think that in evolutionary terms Hyenas were more closely related to dogs than cats when in fact the opposite is true.

<initiating self-promotional mode>

Just a reminder for anyone who wants to know (who made what and which month it was made for) the contents of all the previous ccc's, there is the catalogue that I maintain on the new vault. The most recent version of which has details for every challenge that has been released. It is in the form of an xlsx spreadsheet. For those who can't currently read that file type I recommend the free version of Kingsoft Office (available for Windows, android and Linux) available from their site. And no I have nothing to do with this office suite.

Once recently... but there have been previous occasions. Some years ago. Nothing ever escapes my memory - well, except trivial rubbish like what I'm actually doing, that sort of thing...

And the evolutionary links propounded between Hyenas and cats were basically all rubbished some years ago though the assertion is still found lying about in texts that haven't got their acts together yet. Beyond being in "carnivora", of course.

PS:- Before I throw it away as a very pointless waste of time, I assume nobody wants a Penguin Idol? Right? It's ludicrous. Even I've never had a penguin dependent culture or a crazed sect of penguin worshippers in my Modules.

Serpent?

Can do, though there are some Yuan-Ti snake statues converted from SoZ lurking about already. I'll add a Snake Idol if I can persuade a snake to do something interestingly different.

PHoD,

I'd use the Penguin Idol if you put it out there.  Our Death area is populated with penguin-looking things called Death Watchers, and it sounds like a nice complimentary piece of decor, were it available.  That said, please don't make extra effort on my account.  I tend to enjoy your work, regardless of how you decide to spend your time.   So, I just appreciate that you share what you can.

How penguin shaped are these penguin-shaped things? I mean, I can stick extra bits on the penguin to match what you're using if you want - since you'll likely be approximately the only person who actually wants penguin statues... or I can make them unrealistically hold scythes in their flippers or something...

Spleen up a penguin

You know you want to.

(As for the serpents, when in doubt, add more heads)

Well... the ice goblins only ever worship the Emperor Penguin; worshiping any other kind would clearly be ludicrous. The Crested Penguin is merely a pretender, despite their pretensions of elitism.

Seems like penguins could be very excellent as the primary theme of a horror module. On a slightly related note, anyone here read At the Mountains of Madness by Lovecraft?

PHoD,

Our Death Watchers just use the BW penguin models - very simple.    There is a variant in development for a special area set that will use the undead penguin model we found somewhere.  (Yours too, I believe).  :)

Has anyone covered Shopkeep counter top items and bar tavern counter top items not currently in the CEP what of a treasure cabnet with monsster parts liek for demon hunter NPC exc.

there is an allrmangly small ammount of dishes in the CEP last I saw it would be nice to have some clay ones that don't look like cement. maybe even victorian china?

Stacked dishes for back rooms and random stuff for storage.

If the devil is in the details why not adress details not many player think about?  Exposed crstals, bedrolls and medical ssupplys for the temples coins that can be seen thrugh the water that kind of nonsence.

Yes, the Undead Penguin is mine... Who else would have bothered?

Yes, naturally I've read Lovecraft's At the Mountains of Madness, but the giant, mutant, eyeless, albino penguins in that were just shuffling, mindless berks who got run over by Shoggoths every so often. Nobody venerated the rubbery honkers.

So, OBVIOUSLY everybody in the known cosmos has entered into a conspiracy to cause me to make legions of ludicrous Cursed Undead Nuclear Freak Ugly Heavy Monster Clown Sumo Spleen Penguins.

All I can say is this:- After all these years, you should know better than to poke PLUSH HYENA of DOOM with a sharp stick and urge him in a very silly direction. Posterity will know where to lay the blame. It is entirely YOUR fault that Operation Penguin has been commenced... Be afraid, be very afraid...

@PHOD: I meant eyes sockets. The eyes of hyena figurine, glowing green in the dark, so majestic, such a good price at black market. Make the eyes "pickable" preferably with same model being animated with eyes on and without. Pretty Please :D
