You can succeed by focusing on powers.

However for the majority of characters, you're more effective by focusing on weapons.

That said, even if you are focused on powers I'd say you shouldn't really go through matches without firing your gun. You should be firing in between ability uses.

This

Some kits can do fine focusing on powers, but good weapons can be attached to any class and they can hold up otherwise mediocre characters. It is just the nature of guns because they are interchangeable while ability sets are exclusive to each character.

I actually see it the opposite way, pretty much. Powers are there to complement weapon use. You're a soldier, after all.

Although there are a few exceptions.

Characters that I almost never fire a shot with are my Fury, Huntress, Valkyrie, Paladin, Slayer, and Shadow... They are also among my most used....

I love using ALL characters. I would bore sick using the same chars, class, powers, weapons, equipment the same way for the same result. I love variety and ME3's Multiplayer definitely has it :)

Try using different characters and things... Youre missing like 90% of the multiplayer experience dude :)

...hates it when topics are chopped in half.

Welcome to the Clickhole. Buckle up *************.

Also, how is a power not a weapon?

Premise is faulty. Reported.

Some kits are best using weapons to supplement their powers.  Some kits are best using their powers to supplement their weapons.  Some kits can be played either way.  Going through a match without firing a shot is never (literally, never!) the most effective strategy though.

No big lebowsky meme yet! Bsn I am disappoint!

Also I facepalmed when I heard that you don't shoot in between casts. What do you do in between, watch the goddamn scenery!

Trust me everything's better with a hail of bullets.

Lately I have slowly been getting into more and more characters.... My latest batch are the GE, QFI, and my return to the Jugg

If you're not using one to supplement the other then you're doing it wrong (IMO).
Ideally your weapons, powers, gear, mods and consumables should all be working in harmony to make you the most efficient killer possible. I'm not saying you always have to spec the most optimal kit or use the most powerful weapons, but whatever you choose should work in harmony.

I only play Vanguards and Adepts, and I almost never fire my weapons.  Part of the reason is because my manifest is pathetically small and it takes an ungodly amount of time and effort to build it up, and part of the reason is because I've always been very bad at aiming in shooter games (I can never find the perfect mouse sensitivity and I'm too used to twitch-based aiming and firing in games like Counter-Strike and TF2) and power spam is the perfect way to get around it.

If you only play vanguard, aiming really shouldn't be an issue as you should be right in the enemies face. Heck, even if you only use your weapon the apply ammo effects for tech bursts or incendiary/cryo explosions it's still worth it (imo).

I believe weapons exist to serve powers not rule over them.

It really all depends on the weapons and powers being used.

Most of the time on my power characters, the recharge time is so fast that by the time I get to cover and line up a shot, my powers are ready again....

with weapons.  In other words, powers were designed to maximize the potential of weapons.  If it was the other way around, all weapons would have 0 weight.  Cloak, snapfreeze, proxy mine, warp, cryo blast, tac scan stasis, etc.  all make weapons do more damage.  Why not take advantage of it?

Further, other powers are designed to make shooting easier!  Energy drain, incinerate, snapfreeze / cryo blast, stasis, submission net, overload, hawk missile launcher, etc. all cause enemies to become stunned, trapped, frozen, or something similar.  ie) quick and easy kills with a weapon.  Why would I wait for my cooldown when I can now finish them off with a quick shot with the executioner pistol?  I can then use the cooldown time to trigger a reload cancel- no time lost but more enemies dead.

Running around creating a splosion bess with the fury / huntress?  Cool.  Strap on either an acolyte, arc pistol, hurricane, piranha, scorpion, eagle, talon, CSMG, BPP, etc.  Even if you have throw (fury) setup to reset instantly after a big boom, it doesn't matter.  You will still have time before and after (especially with bigger enemies) to shoot.  If I run into 5 enemies, I'll make a big boom, take two shots with a weapon (killing two enemies- I'm a good shot) as I move around repriming for more booms.  Now I have two less enemies shooting at me while I'm either waiting for a cooldown or trying to prime something with my field.  Less enemies nearby means less chance of dying.  Boss enemies - to not shoot is a complete waste of time.

Shadow- are you focusing on Shadow Strike?  Bring an acolyte to strip shields and then make the strike do massive amounts of damage through cloak, strike, weapon/power and fitness passives.  (go armor damage on fitness!)

Lastly- the use of ammo types to compliment your weapon (and powers!)  If you focus more on electric slash for your shadow, why not slap on incendiary or disruptor rounds?  You'll get level 7 (assuming your power is evolved to rank 6) fire or tech explosions... all because you fired your weapon first before using your power.  Or, use the debuff from ammo types (like cryo rounds) to do more damage (cryo rounds = WEAK armor).  Better yet, hit a scion with warp and then unload your weapon when using warp rounds.  You'll get the debuff from warp (weakened armor, more weapon damage, more damage to armor and barriers), AND you get the benefit of warps.  (Warp IV: more armor weakening, plus your weapon doing 60% more damage, and you'll be doing an extra 100% weapon damage because you primed them first with warp...)  That stuff adds up quick!

FYI- my average time for a platinum solo is about 35 minutes.  Yesterday, I did a 'no weapon' solo (although I did use rockets for wave 10 targets).  The game took 55 minutes.  That's 20 extra minutes because I was too lazy to use my weapon...

Sorry for the essay...

Your beliefs are thrown out the window airlock when you see a dev basically say that guns were meant to eventually be more powerful than powers.

So you believe that Biovar was able to flawlessly implement their design intentions in this regard? And it's just every single other aspect of the game that is hopelessly bugged?

I also don't use shotguns with my Vanguard because I don't have Ultralight Materials and the few amount of shotguns I have are terrible.  So I stick to pistols or SMGs.  I'm 100% reliant on powers until my manifest expands a little more.

Shotgun Ultralight Materials is always a waste of a slot that you need for one of High Velocity Barrel, Smart Choke, Shredder Mod, Extended Thermal Clip, or an Omniblade. Especially since it removes very little weight even at level V.

Really?  Well, that sucks.  I might as well just stick to my Locust I with SMG Power Mag I.

When you get it, try the Wraith on your Vanguard. Medium weight but hits hard.

If I am ever tempted to use hi V. barrel, I would rather just use shredder and Hi C. barrel

That can work, but if you use HVB it combines the capabilities of Shredder and HCB, leaving a slot free for Smart Choke, which makes possible across-the-map headshots with the Claymore, for example.

BUUT... I wouldn't use a claymore... for one BIG reason, the sole reason for not using Hi-V barrel.... weight penalty

Well, you'll just have to get over it.
