I haven't tried DA:I multiplayer so I don't really know anything about. I figured it would't work with my satelite internet which has very high ping. I'm wondering if anyone can gave me a basic description of how MP works? Also is like GTA5 where I can't really play with people but I can host my own game and play "multiplayer" by myself? Thanks

It is client based like ME3MP. Your connection to others might be lousy given your connection type, but give it a try and see how it goes. Even people with high level of bandwith have these problems unfortunately. You can definitely play DAIMP on your own (host), but soloing can be a bit of a pain until you begin receiving better weapons and accessories through chests.

Well it's a bit more than that...
If you have high ping and your hosting then everyone will be having a lag fest time and rubber banding.
However, due to the strict ping filtering you'll probably matched with others with terrible connections or no one at all... Pretty much making your multiplayer experience more of a solo experience.

It isn't strictly just ping latency, though that certainly helps. The quality of the internet connection does matter.
Is one example of what to look for but it'll vary connecting to other people.
You most certainly can host your own game. However, I would say until you're playing the highest difficulty settings and challenging kits (not melee, not close combat), ping is not an issue so long as people are able to load in.
So don't worry about it, and once you're geared up and skilled up, you can adapt for network issues when you finally play higher difficulty settings.

I thinking about getting my old internet hooked back up. Its some dsl or something that comes through my phone line. It wasn't super fast downloads but it had a decent ping.

Doesn't sattelite have a half-second delay time compared to landline internet? I thought I read that somewhere. If true, your possibly in for seeing actions appear a half-second late, which means if you die, the server will already know but you won't. I would say don't host. While hosting will give a much better experience for you, everyone else on your team will suffer terrible lag. I have pretty bad internet, which is why I never host. But for the most part, I can ride off of other hosts and make it through ok.
I'm still subjected to the same bugs and glitches as everyone else, which is why playing with people in a private lobby might be a good idea if you can get some friends. Then you can exit to main menu and rejoin if you experience bugs or crashes, while still retaining your exp.

No. The latency will vary.

I'm surprised you had zero jitter. Your latency is more than fine for MP.
However if you do host, I do recommend lowering all your settings to low except the software AA (not the Multisample AA, that one you want to turn off). It is prettier, but it is also distracting in MP, and you want to reduce the causes of instability. My system can easily handle higher settings, but I don't run them for MP. Turn them back for SP, but MP doesn't need unnecessary risk and self-made nerfs.

Yeah if I host something everyone else rubber bands a lot. If I join there game then its just me rubber banding. I got my old internet coming back on the 9th though its not the best but it don't have the delay.

I can give it a try. Also I'm playing on ps3.

That's in part probably because you're playing on PS3 and part Satellite. You won't need much bandwidth to play this game, but it is ... network sensitive. The rubber-banding doesn't matter much for caster/ranged players, but it will for melee (which sucks off-host).

I'm going to wait till the 9th then let my gf use the satelite and I will have the DSL all to myself. I don't think its quite as good as normal DSL but its not bad.

Sorry, I kind of made my own topic pointless. I didn't have the idea to hook up both internets untill after I posted it

If its anything like the last time I tried MP on GTA5 people join my game get pissed and leave. I might give it a go but I'm not finished with single player yet either.

I have the upgraded $89/month Exede/Wildblue Satellite ISP at home, and it's unplayable on anything other than Routine due to the poor connectivity. You can have 500 to 2000ms lag and enemies you're viewing are no longer where you see them, or may have already have been killed. Rarely these "phantom" enemies can damage me after they've been killed in real time, especially enemies such as the Demon Ice Witch. I've played a few Threatening with tank characters, but it really isn't much fun. I can only join a game that's already in progress; never a game starting from the lobby.
The lag/latency/ping/whatever is 3 times as bad as I had with ME3MP on the same ISP.
I play mainly solo with the Satellite ISP. Hosting a game is minimally playable for any joining players, if they can connect at all, stay connected. or move their avatars once connected. My advice: NEVER host on a satellite ISP. Even with ME3MP hosting a PUG game was inviting only wrath and derision.

As a point of comparison, would you mind trying the same VOIP latency test? http://freeola.com/line-test/
I'd still get my feet wet, even if just playing routine. People are going to whine and complain or leave (or stay and leech) regardless

Drasca,
Yep.
I'm at work atm, but I'll give the Line Quality Test a spin when I get home.
I play my Threatening and Perilous PUG games from my office at work before heading home. I play Satellite ISP games at home with mainly family members online who know I have a severe handicap and find it fun to watch me swing at air where a Venatori archer was standing 2 seconds before, beat my purple weaponry with their white, or see me go straight down dead and immediately enter the Void when they insist on trying Perilous with me "one more time". Quality family fun with the patriarch.

The Line Quality Test on freeola.com will not run properly, giving me an error message on every attempt with 100% packet loss. I've disabled my Norton360 firewall to run this test , but it's still a no-go. Perhaps my modem has it's own firewall? Sorry for being of no assistance.
My freeola Speed Test:
12.30 mbps down
1.04 mbps up
The speed test numbers look nominal, but the game is minimally playable online.

The thing is java based, so it requires java permissions on your browser. Most jitter tests are like that. Too bad we can't get results for comparison. The speed isn't the issue, the 'quality' is.

Updated to JAVA 8 and ensured it was enabled in browser; ran test again and received same error message at the end of the test once the 'Pinging Your IP Address' blue bar hits 100%.
An error has occurred
Unfortunately the line test has failed to complete, due to 100% packet loss. This means that we were unable to connect to your computer via a ping request. The most likely cause of this problems is firewall software that is set to block ping requests. This firewall software may be installed on your computer, or built into your router (if you use a router to connect to the internet).
Typical.

I've been getting the same when I tried that thing. Doesn't prevent my computing a bit, so the thing it's blocking is only the test related.

I tried a private game with all 3 characters. Pretty much had my ass handed to me each time. Seems fun once I get going.

My satelite does not let me play MP. Doesn't matter if I'm host or not. If the game is not set on private the game disconnects instantly.
