Advice sought ...

 

I have much practice with everything but sniper rifles on the GI

 

Yesterday i re-spec'd my GI as 65663 (instead of my usual 45665) and slapped the Jav on him.

 

I quickly realized how annoying husks become (as opposed to a juicy buffet for other weapons). Is it better to go 66660 and give Proxy increased damage at ranks 4 & 6? Is this enough damage to kill gold and plat level husks? Traditionally I take radius at 4 ..

 

Since I only played the one match yesterday, what other enemy units will I need to be especially aware of?

 

Should i use the HVB and increased ammo as the 2 gun mods? Or both piercing mods for more cover penetration?

 

Phasic or Warp ammo? I would guess Phasic but this one player on my FL uses Warp IV ammo and crushes with it

 

BTW in my one match yesterday I was relatively pathetic, so any general pointers are welcome.

I use your posted build, but fitness isn't needed, and the extra damage in rank 6 of proxy mine will solve your issue with husks. I stack piercing on my Javelin and Phasic, always Phasic. You can shoot through an insane amount of cover by stacking piercing, so you don't even need to be in LOS of an enemy to destroy them, especially with speed and vision rank 6 in hunter mode.

Gold husk has 928.  A cloaked proximine or heavy melee on most builds should get you what you need.  They'll also both stagger the husks, so you can easily follow up with the other if the numbers are a bit off.

Also you'll find yourself triggering the banshee and phantom power absorbs on purpose (much to the irritation of power focused teammates). Find phantom->cloak->proxy mine (trigger bubble)->shoot in the head (super easy since she's still)->get that double hit and OHK those phantoms. Also do the same for banshees, especially when they're stopped so you can get the double hits on them. They go down so fast it's crazy.

To git gud with the Jav though you should practice hip firing that baby occasionally though. Might be a skill to mess with if you want to. Being a good sniper has a lot more than just long range sniping dealing with CQ crap is always a good skill.

However I do find this build quite map dependent. On Glacier and White it is awesome, on Rio, Condor & London, not so much

Good points all, tx for the replies. i intend to scrub it up some more with this set up and see if I can learn to aim.

 

Will I do enough damage hip firing to kill a Gold Marauder?

Nah, not really just a melee centric build but as a husk killer or to stun backwards **** that gets too close. It will kill most stuff or at least stagger it backwards. Collectors though...................

I spec him the same with the Javelin...6/5/6/6/3.  Radius on mines is fine, for husks and small enemies:  Cloak-->P. Mine-->Heavy Melee should get the job done if you don't want do quick scope.

I only go 5 in Proxy.  Phasics for Gold.  Incendiary for Plat.

Depends your aiming skills. Phasic for easy games.

 

UPD: Also try javelin with drill rounds. It's fun.

Phasic rounds are likely best for Gold and Platinum

 

don't play GI much with Sniper Rifles (mostly shotguns such as Wraith or Piranha)

The Javelin is a bit special and takes some practise. But once you get the hang of it you will see the amazing damage it's capable of.

 

6/5/6/6/3 works best for me also (I prefer disruptor IV on him). His ability to see through walls will overcome the slight delay on the shot (as most mooks sooner or later will go into cover).

 

Big targets like Atlases and Preatorians are easy to hit.

 

Give hime some time, he's squishy as hell and requires a bit of awarness of everything going on around him, but once you start to get used to him you will love it.

Phasics generally but if you have a few biotics on your team, Warp ammo can do some damn work. Biotic GI is a pretty cool guy that can shoot biotic lasers.

I just can't seem to hit much with the Javelin, and I haven't really practiced with it so I can get good with it.  I know... L2P.
