Hello Everyone,

It's StarFlorge,

This is a video to show you how to use a great Mage mechanic that can be done with many missile spells, I have made this video to show clearly how and what happens. So far i haven't seen anyone before come up with/use this to my knowledge, hope it helps and here is the video, Enjoy:

wow cool. I never paid too much attention to this but I am sure I had it triggered in the midst of battle several times as I naturally run flashpoint and also mana surge on my necro, and I do not "wait" for walking bomb so to speak to hit the target before rushing to cast the next spell, if one is available. But I will now use this more consistently from now on knowing that it is there. if this also works with mana surge than that is just ridicilous. but there is no reason why it should not.

Ye when i found it out i was amazed xD i just had time on my hands to figure out Inquisition mechanics, and after playing every dragon age as a mage, i know how to play them and found out things like this. Hope it helps, Enjoy my other videos getting them out every 2 weeks :) and updating this and all other soon :) Hope you enjoy them, Happy adventuring :)

yeah I love mages too, have soloed with them games ever since buldar's gate, where they were a tad bit even more OP. but in dai you can do just fine with them, even when you do not spec into KE.

yeah and flashpoint is the core of any good mage build in dai. I usually also get mana surge later when I have the additional abillity points to spend. mana surge = free barrier, flashpoint = free walking bomb/fire mine. what's not to like? this also works with static cage just as good as with walking bomb as static cage untill it triggers its paralysis / damage also seems to not end flashpoint/ mana surge. now I am working on how to get "free blizzard" on necro to get constant freeze / paralysis status on enemies. unfortunately blizzard is somewhat buggy and it only freezes enemies which have locked aggro on the blizzard caster. plus it does not work so well as it cancels winter's stillness while it's activated. Of course if you are in a group of 4 you should be killing things fast enough to allow permenant blizzard on the necro through death syphon. flashpoint / mana surge takes care of the rest. but my results there have been mixed. ice mine is the safer / more cost effective choice there.

Necromancer and Lightning go hand in hand, i have another video that shows that off, which ill post in a new forum topic on Classes & Builds. Even though i have been playing mage through every dragon age and know them very well, after hours of trying i have yet to get a good Frost build. In every build i go a little into the top of the frost build just to make the mage better but i still haven't found a good mainly Frost build, for partly the reason things like my lightning build are just so much better even in AoE, but im still trying to figure out how to make a good frost build that can contest against things like lightning builds.

Interesting. I'll be trying this on Dorian later on. Good find!

Problem I see is that this only seems to work with Walking Bomb because of when it's mana cost is deducted. Also, it seems to me that you don't need the second Energy Barrage; the key seems to be that you need to have less than 65 mana when Walking Bob's first damage number ticks. A single Energy Barrage would satisfy that, so you wouldn't need Flashpoint.

Are there any other spells that deduct their mana cost late enough for this to work, or is Walking Bomb the only one?

The first point you made is true, you do not require the second you just need to use mana so you dont have 65 mana to use before the walking bomb does damage, however i find two energy barrages to do very high damage.

Also that only spell i have found that also works like this how your mana gets taken from you once it causes damage is Flashfire from the inferno tree however the damage for this will occur in a quicker space of time that walking bomb so you need to be even quicker and preferably further away when using Flashfire

I don't think it is possible, unless you handicap for Static Cage in some way, like go Rift specialization and detonate your own Winter's Chill victims. Static Cage is OP, only trees with equally OP skills can match.

I'd only play a Frost mage for RP reasons. As a pseudo-specialization, it's the weakest of the three elements, not counting Spirit since that is clearly for support only.

Fair enough, but the video makes it seem like you have to have Flashpoint and get the second Energy Barrage off or this won't work. Clearly, that's not the case, but the video makes it seem like it.

Since Flashfire is considered a sub-par spell, I'd say that makes the title of this thread misleading. After all, the only specialization that can make use of this is the Necromancer, while the title implies that any mage can pull this off.

Actually any mage can pull this off since Flashfire works but if you  want i can try focus on more things like this with more spells and different specializations, so that more mages not just Necromancers can get such high damage :) Also the reason i focus on Flashpoint with the two Energy Barrages, is because i feel that this is the highest amount of damage you can get out in such a quick amount of time, the speed of the damage is key here, cause you can cast two Energy Barrages very quickly with such a high amount of damage. As well as trying to find out more spells that this works with or more mage mechanics, i am currently working on how to get even more damage with mana surge, all will come in time, you cant just come up with these things xD i will and am working of these as well as work so thats why it takes me a long time to figure them out however after my exams i will be working very hard to find out many things quickly :)
