A post over on the Canadians thread got me thinking about cruel food.
Haggis is notoriously an 'acquired taste' but I think lutefisk ranks up there are a trap for the unwary. When most people think of Swedish cooking they think meatballs, and yet there lurk these jelly like lye soaked fragments of fish in the Swedish cooking repertoire.
What other food disasters lurk out there?
It started out with an aftertaste

Every cuisine got something that would make some person throw up just thinking about how it would taste/smell. Yet, obviously some people like it, otherwise it wouldn't be part of any cuisine, now would it?
There is no cruel food unless someone specifically designed it for everyone to hate it (which I'm sure someone somewhere did at some time, but it didn't catch on for obvious reasons). It's all down to preferences.
That said, whilst I try to keep an open mind about food even if it appears strange, there's a couple things you could send me running away from screaming like a little girl. Think Pidan for example.
Plus some things I wouldn't eat on principle, like Shark Fin Soup. You try serving me that and you get the evil eye, at best.

It's things like these that make me glad to crack open a bag of Goldfish crackers and a bottle of cream soda. It's unhealthy, but at least you won't vomit out your intestines.
