Sera x Dagna is bad. I am not saying that as a Sera hater. I like her. I like Dagna too, for that matter.
But the pairing is bad and whoever wrote it should feel bad.
Dagna is sweet and her fascination with things above her level defines her character. Sera sticks her nose up at things she does not consider "normal" -- and magic, the thing Dagna loves, might just be the biggest no-no on her list. She is also not very sweet. Not indecent, just kind of rude at times and arrogant at others.
I get that opposites attract sometimes, but if Sera cannot respect the thing Dagna is passionate about and dedicated her life to, then you do not have the makings of a good, healthy relationship there. It's not like we see Sera show a willingness to accept things she otherwise dislikes for an Inquisitor she is in a relationship with -- hell, she breaks up with you if you reject her dogma about the Temple of Mythal being lies/demons (again with the magic hate lol) -- so I am not counting on Sera to open her mind to magic just because she and Dagna might like each other.
Then again, this game gave us Dorian x Bull, so bad NPC pairings are kind of a thing here.
I've always thought that Sera sees magic and the enchantment science that Dagna does as two separate things. She even has a banter with Dorian where she differentiates a mage's demon attracting magic with her lyrium-derived Tempest abilities. To her magic is scary Fadey stuff that causes mages to "burst out with demons" while everything that she and Dagna work with is normal science that anyone can use and can't cause people to become possessed by monsters. Furthermore, while Sera does hate magic she doesn't hate mages. She likes Dorian and get even begrudging accept the Inquisitor's magical abilities when they get their spec.
So, as long as Dagna doesn't go all elfy (dwarfy is alright for her apparently) I'm sure they'll be fine. If anything Dagna being such a scientific mind would probably lend herself into believing that the Creators are just powerful spirits and demons instead of gods, which is something Sera would love to hear.

If she can go along well with a mage inquisitor as lover or being friends with mages, she'd be totally fine with Dagna. Plus, Danga is fun, cute and caring. She could teach her a lot of things about magic and such. So yeah, i can easily see this rs working fine.
So Jennifer Helper wrote her in DAO.
Adding it to the OP.
I still don't know who wrote her in Inquisition.

You make some solid points here, definitely, enough that I could maybe accept the idea of those two as an item. Still I have doubts though. I mean, no matter how you respond, you will still initially get Sera's reaction to your mage spec as "ugh, magicky stuff." Rift Mage in particular stands out because she dislikes it having anything to do with the tears in the Veil that pour demons. Dagna, OTOH, had a totally different attitude towards things like the mark on your hand and even the Breach. I just do not think those two minds would work well together. I can buy them being sexually attracted to each other to start out with and overlook the differences in opinions. After a while, though? I think they would get pretty sick of each other.

I like to think, personally, that they could enjoy a very strong and enduring friendship despite that. It's one thing Bioware stories sometimes lack, imo. I know they've written some great friendships, but they usually only happen between the PC and companions. The ones that I can think of between companions are ones that fall apart outside of the main story unless they upgrade to romance. I suppose there are elements of realism to that, but it would be nice to see some more "great friendships" that don't have to be romantic to endure.
It's one of the several reasons I prefer to see them as very, very good friends rather than romantically attached.
If it turns out to be canon, though, I could deal with that. It would strike me as less abrupt a development than Bull x Dorian did.

There have been a few great friendships between followers that don't turn into romantic ones or fall apart. Josephine and Leliana, Garrus and Wrex, Aveline and Isabela, etc.

Sure, but I get the distinct impression that at least two of those three fall out of contact with each other after the events in their respective in game stories. Josephine and Leliana are friends independently, so I definitely would be surprised if their friendship endures.
Aveline and Isabela form a bond, but there isn't much that they share to keep them maintaining contact after they go their separate ways. Garrus and Wrex I wouldn't call a great friendship, personally. They develop a friendship, but it isn't particularly close. Garrus takes Shepard's potential betrayal of Wrex in stride, for example. If theirs was the kind of friendship I'm talking about, it would have had a more dramatic impact on him.

James Vega and Steve Cortez.

Now there's one. Good point, Poodle. I'd like another of those.
I prefer to think of them as bffs rather than romantically involved. I just dont like the idea that all romance options can hook up with someone else. It makes me think that the love interests are just looking to get together before everyone dies. I dont like thinking that they just get together with the Inquisitor because they are there.
There is more of that this game than previously, definitely. I wouldn't be upset by them turning out to be romantically involved, but it would seem very similar to what they did with Bull and Dorian as well as Blackwall and Josephine, in that you have two people drastically different perspectives who develop a romantic connection with each other. It's because I like that pattern that I'd rather not see it repeated to excess.
I too hope it's just a friendship between them, but it's because I'm all about Dagna for a future LI.
I'm also not much of a shipper.
Dagna's LI? Does she take those leftovers from the Inquistor that she wanted so badley, and do a Pygmalion with them? lol

Now, that might be taking her enthusiasm for the unconventional a bit far. Lol.

Honestly, I think out of all BioWare games that I've played (which is only the ME and DA series) this is the one that hits the nail on the head. It is, to me, the only great example of a friendship not influenced in anyway by the PC. I too would like to see more of that in future games.

What? Josephine and Leliana have been friends for years, in constant contact since after Leliana returns to Val Royeaux. And it exists regardless of the player's influence. Why would you be surprised if it endured?
I don't ever ship Dagna and Sera because inky has only romanced Sera, personally I hope it is canon though for one reason only. If Dagna or Harding end up being Li in future games, the fact that Harding enjoys the flirts with a female inky and if Dagna had history with Sera then maybe it makes it less likely to have a repeat of the DAI experience with returning characters.
What do you mean?
