In my experience:

++ Varric and Iron Bull will also never leave... I think.  As I said, I don't think I've ever dropped Iron Bull's affection low enough to see for certain, and I haven't seen Varric's crisis point (like the punching scenes or Cass getting drunk in the tavern) despite trying to be horrible to him.  I even let Hawke die in front of him, and he stuck around- people from before the game had been released thought that was when he would leave you, but he didn't leave me.  Still, maybe he wasn't low enough.

Cassandra gets drunk?  How, do I get that to happen?

Really anger her.  Play nice with the mages, tell her you don't have time to kill her targets (and thus avoid them when in the wild), when she fights with Varric side with Varric all the time and basically tell her she's out of line, and then let Celene and Briala rule (which I think she hates the most).  If you time it right, you may be able to take just the right flirt to open up her romance (as a guy), and then when she tells you she wants all the poetry and stuff, bluntly tell her that's why she's still single (though that's MEAN).

In mine, she started ranting at me for 'coddling the mage rebellion' while drinking from a pretty big triangle shaped jug.  She wasn't slurring, but sort of made odd hand motions and swaggered a bit on her feet.  I had the option to tell her she was pathetic, and to tell her to leave, but she was basically like 'No, f00'.  She was pretty darn angry, I believe, though the scene was pretty short.

The fact that I am pretty much a real life Cole when it comes to wanting to help others, I have never tried nor can I even consider being mean to any of my companions, but I do know that the main ones (Cassandra, Varric and Solas) can't leave no matter what, until plot takes over for Cass and Solas.

As for approval, I learned a pretty simple way to know if they like you or not. How they talk to you will change. They will say nice and warm things and greet you nicely, or do the opposite if you are heading in the bad direction. Just keep pushing it until the ones that get a leaving scene finally snap.

Okay, how did you get rid of Viv?  What did she say when leaving?  I thought I got her to the ultimate low hatred RARGH and did everything I could to annoy her, but she was still there.  I thought she had to stay because of the Divine thing, actually.

I made her Divine while conducting my little experiment, so yeah, chances are she'll only leave your party if you make her Divine (hence why I still had Cass in the end), so you're likely correct about her staying because of the Divine thing. I too did everything I could to make her leave, and nothing worked, she absolutely abhorred my Inquisitor but still stayed. I had to make her Divine (I aborted my entire experiment after that).

From what I found out, in order for her to not be present in your list of companions is to either make her Divine, or not recruit her period, I suggest the latter.

Oh! But I did get a scene with men carrying out some of her furniture. Told her to stop meddling with things in the Keep and she ended up mocking the choices I had my Inquisitor make in the past, she said 'Skyhold isn't yours', but 'the 'Inquisitions'. Selected that if she wants to start a fight, then start a fight then she claims to not be meddling with anyone nor would she want to even talk to me, that all she wanted to do is test the Inquisitors 'limits'

Not keep. Fortress.

But yes, I remember that Vivienne is the only companion that flat out dismisses your authority like that.

FWIW, I actually got a minor bump in approval from Cass by reuniting Celene and Briala (I guess because maybe it's the 'romantic' ending and she approves of that)? I think the one she dislikes is Celene ruling alone.

There have been times where a companion's dislike of my Inquisitor has taken me by surprise. I remember going up to Blackwall after conscripting the Templars and having him give me that nasty, "What do you want?" The key to getting Blackwall to hate you is rather simple just be anti Grey Warden and justice, and you should be fine. Also don't talk to him at all in Haven, ally with the mages or conscript the Templars, and then banish the Wardens; he should hate you enough to leave by then especially if you haven't found any of the warden artifacts.

It's very easy. Just stick with bottom answers. She never approves of them. Be pro-mage freedom, anti-chantry, and just an ass to her. I got that drunk scene immediately after reaching Skyhold.

I think the best instance of companion disapproval in the game was picking "I'll do it for my own power" when becoming Inquisitor.

You also need to avoid killing any darkspawn with him in the party. I think he's against conscripting the mages as well. He's just against conscription; strange considering what the Grey Wardens do.

OMG, I loved that. It was like a parade of everyone hating the character.

Do you need to be determined to say and do stuff s/he doesn't like at all times?

Does it become impossible if you do anything that gets a "greatly approves" even once?

Just keep angering that specific person and don't even bother doing any of their missions at all.

Like for me and Solas I never supported any of his viewpoints and never talked to him. I recruited the templars and kept the Grey Wardens. I did his first mission without taking him. At some point I did discuss my things with him and he took my character as a "thoughtless brute that feels violence solves everything" and jumped down my throat over my alliance with the templars and wardens so....I popped him in the face. He claimed he was going to leave but chose to stick around.

Vivianne I always had a different opinion to who I see mages. Her response to me asking "i was wondering if we can..." is "not in a million years. Besides you smell like a wet dog".

In my play-through Cole randomly left shortly after I arrived at Skyhold, I remember him saying something about me not doing enough to help people and that if I don't he'd leave, but I did help people, especially in The Hinterlands. Anyway, I never recruited Vivienne, I don't like her character, and I was able to get rid of Blackwall when I exiled the Grey Wardens. I kicked Sera out, too:rolleyes:
