Hello everyone!

I've read like a hundred different threads, but I don't understand - is the appearance import bug or whatever it is still there? Do I have to use some external means to be able to import my ME1-ME2 Shep into ME3? If so, then the Mass effect tools site link about which everyone writes doesn't work. Is there any other way?

I imported my ME1 Shepard into ME2 without changing anything in her appearance, but ME2 generated some random face code for her because I went to "customize" section and backed off, which seems to be the problem. Now ME3 uses that code to generate Shepard's appearance and let me tell you, it is definitely not my Shepard.

Thanks in advance to everyone.

They fixed it partially in one of the early patches, even though it is still not perfect. (It used to be extremely awful, changing skin color and hair and... well pretty much everything it seemed.)

Now it is mostly the hair that is usually different, but easy to fix.

The issue may not be fully related to ME3, but perhaps related to ME2. I think ME2 imports faces correctly from ME1, but does not properly generate the face code to go along with it. So when importing into ME3, the face code and face do not match up properly and a bunch of weird stuff happens.

I do not think BioWare explained what the problem was (nor should they ever be inclined to). Like I said, the problem was mostly fixed even though there are some lingering issues, but they are not that bad.

Faces in ME3 generally look a little different than ME1 and ME2 faces anyway, so it is not that big of a deal unless you were really attached to your Shepard's face in ME1/ME2.

Yeah, I think my problem is the wrong face code ME2 generated for my Shepard, because it's not a "my character looks slightly different" thing - it's a completely different face.

It's just weird - it's a pretty big issue for many ME players as I gathered from forums, I really don't understand why there wasn't done anything about it. The ME1 -> ME2 import was perfect, my character looked exactly the same, so when I encountered this issue with ME3, I was surprised.

And yeah, I got ridiculously attached to my Shepard, it just doesn't feel the same playing with another face. Ugh, I know it's stupid) Guess I have to suck it up and make a new face.

Thank you so much for the answer!

The import function is horrible in ME3. My Shepard was quite different as well. So much so that it got very immersion breaking. I had to use the fan made lazarus project and gibbed to get her face right. Even so it felt wrong. The hairstyles in ME3 had a much lower hairline than the hairstyle I had in ME2. I was (and still are) very attached to my Shepard. She is my favourite fictional character and over many replays off ME2 and 3 I've only played as her (I had some runs before her in ME1, both male and female).

It was a joyus day 9th of february 2014 when I got the help of a modder (Ottemis) who recreated the hairstyle from ME2 in ME3. I finally got my shepard back.

So yeah, if you want your Shepard back it might be possible. Look for some guides on the lazarus project and gibbed to get started. If you want it bad enough you just might get there.

...Ok, so the ME3 pic might not be the most flattering angle or lighting, but you get the picture  ;)

That's why I always create the face in ME3 first, and then I convert the code to ME1 sliders.

okay.....your shep sorta looks like mine, which is funny since i had to edit her face because me3 changed the way she looked so i rolled with it and tried to make her look like a character i would be okay with
