Controls - Am I missing something?

I initially held off grabbing Inquisition due to all the bad reports about the kb+m controls.

Having seen that the latest patch is supposed to fix most of the problems, I finally got a copy.

I just installed and the controls are awful. Do I need to manually apply a patch to make it usable?

I'm still in the opening scene (first prompt to use the tactical camera) and am having real issues.

Current issues include:

Can't zoom out the tactical camera to see more than about 5 sq m

Tactical camera apparently unpauses when I scroll the mouse wheel (?)

Tabbing does cycle enemies bu doesn't move the camera to look at them
Looting means running round in circles to get in range, then no obvious way to just "take all"
Menus are utterly useless with a mouse - Do I have to use arrow keys?
Can't find any click to move (or, frankly, click-to-anything)

How can I get recently the improved controls?

There is no 'Click-to-move' option (I wouldn't like it or use it anyway, even though some would) and I've been using the general menus (inventory, loot, game menu, etc.) just fine with the mouse so far (4 1/2 playthroughs), if those are what you mean. There also are no 'Take all' option with looting (which doesn't personally bother me at all, either). You can widen the range of the search scan with a perk (Secrets -> Eangle-eyed) later on. I don't use tac cam because I prefer ME style combat, so I have no comment about that or it's settings.

If you wish to check your DA:I version number (whether or not you're missing a patch), navigate to... 'Program Files(x86)\Origin\Games\DargonAgeInquisition\_installer' ...and open... 'installerdata.xml'  ...and see the line, <gameVersion version="1.0.0.7"/>

Well, click-to-move does exist in Tac Cam. If Tac Cam's off, you're playing Skyrim, so to speak.

Ah, I stand corrected. As I said, I don't use tac cam, so I wasn't aware of that. I've never actually played Skyrim, by the way. Haven't felt any interest towards it. Maybe I'll give it a try someday.

You can disable having mousewheel (zoom in and out) enter/exist Tactical camera.
You can also tap F to loot all items I believe (the control does exist though, check out key bindings).

You can change your Tact camera's direction using your right mouse, and change how far it zooms through settings.
"Tabbing does cycle enemies bu doesn't move the camera to look at them" why don't you have the game getting played for you in the meanttime?

Click to move or click to auto attack do not exist outside tactical camera. You can however right-click to interact with anything and you have the option to switch that to left click and have right click be the attack instead.
I have no idea what you find so terrible about the menus, they're just as functional as the past two games.

You mean all items that every enemy drop around the fight zone or just all items from one enemy at a time? I assumed OP was talking about the former option but if that works for it, as well, then I don't know how I've missed that one.

Only individually.

Whoa, that came out of no where.

click to auto attack do not exist outside tactical camera.

Unfortunately, but you can however map auto attack to a key. You can also enter and exit tactical mode to give orders for auto attack.

I can't speak for OP, but mouse controls for me in the menus are funky. First of all expanding and contracting journal entries can cause issue with them disappearing (expand all and start contracting from the bottom). Second, the items menu using mouse can cause problems with them not registering when equipping, and the mouse control for comparing items sometimes doesn't compare correctly. Bioware recently patched an issue with mouse controls in menu, but there are still issues.

You can adjust that in options.

Tactical camera apparently unpauses when I scroll the mouse wheel (?)

That too.

Tabbing does cycle enemies bu doesn't move the camera to look at them

No idea. I like to select enemies manually.

Looting means running round in circles to get in range, then no obvious way to just "take all"

The lack of ability to loot at range is unfortunate. But there is a "take all" button. I think it's R by default.

Menus are utterly useless with a mouse - Do I have to use arrow keys?

The UI is atrocious. I think I scroll menus with WASD. Also, the ability tree needs to be dragged with the mouse (an unfathomable design choice).

Can't find any click to move (or, frankly, click-to-anything)

Only works in Tac Cam. Which is fine, until you need to climb a ladder or jump.

the patches have greatly improved the controls , and that just shows you how awful they were at the start  ;)

one gets used to them, not that they are wonderful by any means , but one adapts.
