surprise: I am not talking about Cerberus turrets....

I am talking about all those drones, sentry turrets, etc.

On Bronze and Silver they do a decent job, yes.

But on Gold and Platinum in any case they are way too weak.

If you play alone and take your time and follow a tactic, they may contribute to some extent.

But if you play in a capable group, their DPS simply cannot keep up.

...making most Engineers not as attractive as they should be.

There are 2 things that scale with increasing play time:

Biotic Explosions (when you go on higher difficulties)

and Weapons (when you gradually unlock the ultra rares).

The Sentry turrets, however, stay on the same level

and only benefit a little from certain equipment.

And, not forgetting, it seems that they got nerfed from Bioware in their ability to draw aggro.

Their purpose is to troll and delay the enemy a bit, not to really be a killing power on their own. Although a bit of a buff would've been fine.

You put a Troll Drone next to a Banshee and she will keep doing her "screamo" attack dropping her defences, that allows you to set up combos.

Well since development is kaput, your only viable option is to mod the game to your liking on PC. :)

Got to disagree.

A detonating multi shock combat drone is perfectly viable on gold.
Missile centry turrets can be dropped and forgot about, killing multiple moors.
Flamer turrets are great for priming if you know how to time the donation.

As Binary Helix said, turrets are more about distracting enemies than doing high damage. I find that putting some points in those pets is always worth it. The multifunctions geth turret (healing, distracting, doing some damage and eventually priming for fire explosions) is excellent. The Sentry Turret is worth 4 ranks for the shock evo IMO.

The drone, with the detonate and the shock evos, is awesome.

I think you read "Troll Drone" as "Combat Drone." People tend to make this mistake thus it became punishable by death in the empire.

I find combat drone to be ridiculously useful when spammed. They do a great job at turning enemies around for a few seconds at a time. They are especially good against geth since every single geth unit falls for them. The explosion from exploding drone also detonates tech combos, which synergises very well with human engineer's incinerate and overload spam.

Drawing aggro is priceless on higher difficulties, the pets are working as intended.  Especially the Combat Drone!

You should have seen them before they got nerfed

a whole spawn would stop and stare at them, mystified by the flames coming out, like Daddy Reaper was broadcasting the gospel to them,  it made shooting the enemy like ducks in a barrel

Banshees, brutes, husks, all geth it was hilarious at times, but the powers that be decided enough was enough :o

If you timed it just right, you could throw a turret in the path of a teleprting Banshee and make her stop dead in her tracks and scream obscenities at the turret :wizard:

I only put 3 ranks in the turret.  To me, it's good for a quick shield boost or as an enemy compass.

Ah, those were the days...

I miss being able to grab Pyros and the original Firebase White.

Thought this was a troll post about Prime turrets being too weak.

But I think the idea of player turret damage scaling with difficulty wouldn't have been a bad idea at all.

Eh, you should have seen how bad the drones and turrets were before they were actually buffed, multiple times. Drone's dmg was buffed twice and sentry turrets were buffed total of three times. So, if you think turrets and drones are bad now, you haven't see them when they really were bad.

Yes, they did nerf their ability to draw enemy attention, but that was just good thing. Every enemy concentration on drone/turret/decoy was just ridiculous, when you think about it now.

That being said, drones and turrets purpose ain't to kill on gold/plat, but distract and bother enemies, which makes your job easier. Most of all, drones and turrets are real Phantom bait. If they don't outright concentrate on them, then their fire makes Phantoms do their cartwheeling dancing or use their bubbles, which means they don't shoot at you all the time.

Combat drone is fine. I would not think anyone would complain that sentry turret was overpowered if it were buffed a bit though. Give the turret a bit more health and shields and a little more dps nothing too game breaking.

Turrets are mostly a means to an end, not the end itself. The only thing that worries me is a that a platinum prime's turret hits like a harrier while my own shoots a water pistol!

I liked my turrets well enough back in the day. I have fond memories of the Geth engineer.

The only turret not worth using is the Quarian one (and Salarian Engineer's decoy if you count that as turret).

You are supposed to use them as agro draw. Because if enemies are busy playing with your pets, that leaves you more free to be out in the open kicking butt instead of cowering behind right hand advantage like a sissy.

Why my new fave kit is the Volus Merc. Because two hardcore staggering pets and agro dump mean you can take on the Phantom death squad out in the open and right next to them. How anyone cannot see the beauty in this is beyond my understanding.

So yes, forget about how much dmg they can do (why I much prefer heal turret on GE + why I don't worry about power amps on pets any more either), and use em as an insurance policy instead.

PS - on my Volus Merc, despite not using power amps, I still don't understand how I can end up with an 25 Assault Rifle medal, but with the 75 kill medal as well. That is the magic power of pets. So trust me, skipping pets is the most pug thing you can do.

Were you using Incendiary ammo?  If so, I don't think kills from it's DoT count towards the weapon medal, even though it shows in the kill feed as whichever gun you're using.

But the Volus Merc is an excellent kit, although one that requires a decent gun.

No, I usually use extended barrel on him since I've mostly been using non weight glitchable DLC weapons as Harrier & Lancer (Piranha is another great DLC weapon on him). So Armour & Drill Ammo, or the regular peirce mod with Warp Ammo. However, I did use Explosive ammo a few times, lol. So yeah, I can't exactly recall anymore, but will keep this in mind. Thanks.

The combat drone is quite good at distracting some enemy units (most of them ignore it) but especially phantoms and primes. On platinum a prime will destroy it very fast (a bit to fast one might say) but with low recharge time you can spam it keeping their attention away from you.

The geth turret is actually pretty good for the engineer and juggernaut, would not play them without it myself.

sounds reasonable.

But I have to disagree.

Because while I throw the turret I am not using other powers that would stagger/debuff/prime for the next attack.

It may sound arrogant but it is the truth: My playstyle is fast-paced and I use to go directly after the enemies, not hiding

the first seconds of an encounter with a group of enemies.

PLUS: Please consider that you usually put the points you save for the turrets into fitness. This enables you even more

to go directly after the enemies.

The bottom line of all that is: A shorter match-time and a higher score.

But I'll admit that it would have been fun to use those turrets. If only they were more competitive on higher difficulties!

By the way, I started this thread after playing several rounds with the FQE with the sentry turret.

However, I also played with the Human Drone several times.
