I'd say you need a good amount of self confidence and confidence in your body to record yourself on a webcam and make money off of it.

It's safer than some similar jobs, you have greater ownership of what you're doing when it's your own computer, and you don't split your profits with an owner or manager.

The article is about strippers, not cam girls (not that there's much difference, one is in a club while the other is at home), but #3 applies to all sex workers, with testimonies from 7 people who work in clubs, and conclusions drawn from one scientist who worked as a stripper to gather data.
Also, "false sense of attention and self confidence"? It's not false when a bunch of people are devoting time to watching you do something and are paying money for it.
