For the first Mass Effect, I was all over every bit of new information, even the leaks. Dating back to fall 2005 when ME1 was revealed at X05, I followed EVERY possible detail leading all the way up to launch. I read every article, every interview, watched every trailer and gameplay demos. While I still had a great time playing the game at launch, I felt that the experience could have been better if I wasn't so fixated on the game's 2 year marketing campaign. ME2 was really bad with information being revealed and ME3 tried to tone things down, but still a lot was given away.

With that being said, I believe I will follow this year's E3 coverage very heavy as well as a few interviews following E3. After that, I will try to go into a media blackout (which includes the forums as well :( ) so that when I do get to play ME4, my experience will be truely a fresh experience that hasn't been watered down due to marketing exposure.

Assuming we get a fall 2016 release, I am sure there are many games that will keep me busy until then. There will be Halo 5 and Star Wars Battlefront to keep me busy later this year as well as possibly The Division this year or early next year. So that is 3 games right there that have lasting appeal/replay value that will hold me over. Plus you have the inevitable prequel novel/comics that will tie into the game which would also hold me over.

I just don't want to too absorbed with ME4 marketing to the point where when I finally play the game, some interesting details are already revealed.

Where do you stand on this?

I'm probably just going to take in what pops up through general gamer news.

I was psyched for DA:I and I still haven't got that game yet, so I'm pretty sure I can easily weather out any ME4 hype.

Being unaware of Shepard's death at the start of ME2's prologue made the moment all the more chilling. I imagine Bioware will avoid revealing any major plot moments for NME as there is no reason to since its a brand new game and story that we haven't become emotionally invested into yet. Therefore I'm not worried about any spoilers while i'm devouring all the info they show off up until game release. I mainly wan't to know whose our protagonist, what goal we are setting out to achieve, and what new features have been added.

Oh not much, I am not going into blackout but I always manage to know less about the game then its available. Both ME2 and ME3 were the same, I just dont keep up with the news.

I'm not going to actively look for NME spoilers, but if I run into them, I won't freak out.

I'll be paying a LOT of attention to E3, and if NME isn't (likely) out by N7 Day, I'll pay a lot of attention to that day.

So no blackout.

I care too much about my theories to have a blackout.

Official-news-only prior to release. Spoiler-free reviews from both users and journalists (PC Gamer, in particular) for about 1-2 months after release. After that I'll probably get it. That's how I decide to get a game or not, been doing this for quite a while. Also saved me from playing ME3 without Extended Cut ;)

2016 will be too late for the ME game to go to that next level... They'd best get it out this year. IMHO

I cannot impose a media blackout on an entertainment product. Keeping track of major brands  marketing is something I do in my career and when a major entertainment title like ME starts its cycle it'll be part of my job to measure its performance in the market place.

On a personal purchase note. It is exceptionally rare for me to purchase a computer game during its early release cycle. I tend to buy into a gaming brand when the price drops; when the game has had a sufficient amount of time to iron out bugs etc or has completed a DLC campaign

I do. There's too many games to play already.

The further they push launch, the more time they'll have for polish and the more time I'll have to finish my backlog.

I have been searching up info once maybe twice a week. I will scroll down the screen on my phone to see if anything relevant has surfaced. Anything that is space fiction will catch my eye immediately, so I will go out of my to research it. Sense Mass Effect is my top three space works, I track it. Maybe not on a day to day basis, but definitely a weekly basis.

I love Mass Effect.

I'll be avoiding as much as I can in terms of story-related spoilers so I might also decide to avoid trailers since Inquisition has some that unfortunatley spoiled me on a few things. Things like character creation and gameplay, however, I'll watch. When the first spoilers starts hitting the web, I'm staying off sites where I can easily be spoiled and near the game's release, I'm bailing from the forums until I've finished the game.

I need to follow this game completely I need to know as much as possible so I won't be disappointed. If something I expect to be in the game isn't in the game.

I'll stay well clear of any story spoilers if possible but I am going to keep a tab, so to speak, on ME:N. I followed DA:I and didn't have the game ruined for that much. I will be keeping a crucifix at my bedside however to ward off the insidious publishers of E3 as no doubt It will be yet another grant display of how amazing

pre-rendered trailers have become and how actually showing gameplay so we get some idea of what the game is really like is for nerds. Hopefully if ME is announced at that cesspit of an event it will show something worth while or at least answer some questions. Won't do the whole 'blackout' thing as all you really have to do is just stick to websites you trust and stay clear of some parts of the forums.

I got so badly burned with ME3 that I really don't care about ME:Next news.  It will come out whenever.  I will never pre-order from BioWare ever again, and I will not jump on the hype train.  I will not get the game until I have seen real reviews from real gamers on you tube - and maybe even then still not get it.

I'd rather deal with spoilers than go through another Rancid DogfartTM ending like ME3,  I pre-ordered, got the day 1 DLC Fom the Ashes, shelled out all of that coin and was so excited as I chewed through the game.  Only to play it once.  Well played, BioWare.  Once bitten, twice shy.

As a european "the soaking" is never possible like in the american continent due to it isn't promoted agressively via various media.

I would never have come up with that bad ending ME3 did and sulked over it for a time.  Those ten minutes does not bother me anymore.  Never had the need for a other ending via mods ect..  Do use the official dlc that remade the ending they put out in a rush.

Still play the game to pieces because I find it that good and intertaining.  Then again I don't look for the perfect game just one that lets me escape reality in a entertaining way and Bioware delivers that in spades au contrare to other developpers who's cluttering my harddrive with a few hours gameplay.

I don't know, at least enough to know if its worth a buy. Probably a lengthy gameplay demo to decide if its worth it.

No offense to the marketing department, but I'm going reserve judgement until the game is already out so I can see the information about the direction of the story, skill system and the squad mates.

After ME3 I don't think it is responsible to pre-order or purchase the next Mass Effect on the first day.

For me it depends on the next Mass Effect setting.  If it's something where I can completely ignore or headcanon ME3, then I'll follow the news and decide from there.

Of course, that will include spoiling myself on the game's story.  It's pretty sad that it has come to this, though.

I will skim any IGN article about it and watch any trailer. I won't read major leaks or anything.

I know I will be pre-ordering the collector's edition unless I REALLY don't like what I'm hearing. I have faith in Bioware making something great to enjoy, especially thanks to how much I have enjoyed DA:I.

I'm not butthurt by the last ten minutes of 3 enough to be gunshy nor dramatic enough for one mistake to affect my enjoyment with this series, so it will not be impacting my excitement of ME4 in anyway. All three games together is my all time favorite gaming experience and I am ready to get back into this universe.

I was obsessed with news about DAI, and while I knew a lot of stuff already when going into the game it was still fine, though it's always nice to be surprised and to not know too much.

So for ME, I don't want to obsess, so I'm not actively searching for news, and hope to avoid any major spoiler or whatever until I play them game. Even though trailer is a must. That's what I want to see.

Depending on when it's released I might take a few vacation days to play it right away and staying abstinent from the internet during that, so I can experience it without any fans debating already :D

I'll probably follow it somewhat closely until a setting, title, and trailer are revealed. After that, I'll keep an eye out for a gameplay demonstration or recut trailer, but I'll base my decision on the initial info and mostly forget about it and tune out the white noise until release (essentially how I handled Inquisition).

Here's hoping that info will come in the next two or three months, along with a remastered trilogy announcement.
