The nice thing here is you have it implemented already for combos, just need to give players a toggle slow/normal speed.

The issue is that there are lots of interesting things going on in combat with many complex interactions of skills and damage and mitigation, but it all happens so fast that it can be quite challenging to figure out all of what is going on.

The purpose is to give players an effective tool for understanding the complexities of the tactical combat, and therefore be able to make better decisions on skills/gear/tactics. One great aspect of DA that sets it aside from the melange of hack and slashers is that it IS tactical. We get to pause and think and consider. But even so, the combat is so quick and without combat logs ala BG/BGII I still find it hard to disentangle what is going on, which is frustrating.

As noted you have this code already implemented, player would just need a key/button to toggle it on and off. Separate speed settings for normal and slow would be even better.

I also have wished many times for a 15 second VCR for combat- when things get spread out, sometimes you miss important things happening, I'd love to have the ability to rewind and playback to see what just happened.

These are brilliant ideas.

Particularly since the game lacks any sort of combat log or meaningful documentation, having the combat go slower (or be rewindable, though this strikes me as the more complicated feature) provides tremendous benefit.

The ability to slow combat down in Pillars has been really handy at times.

I think of mass effect where it showed many skills, behaviors and activities in a cinematographic module that you could review at any time.  On the other side as a slow motion replay of TV action and the like that could hurt game immersion.
