I started playing this again. And since I'm prone to nostalgia I'll throw this out there to see if any of the other old timers are still around.

Do you remember..
- Carnifex nerf threads in the demo days?
- ..When stasis was considered the best power?
- Vanguards in orbit?
- The excitement when the geth were revealed as playable characters?
- When the Hurricane was tied with the Eagle for being the least preferred weapon you could get from weekend challenge packs?
- Saving up millions of credits before each dlc? My record was 17 before the earth dlc.
- The ridiculousness of the original Krysae?
- Salarian Engineers on FWBGG, I hated this farming technique at the time, now I even miss that..
- Balance tuesday? I loved those. I was one of the "nerfers", and will always be advocating for less cheese.
- All the clever posts on BSN (jackcrapper, holdenagincourt.. never forget)

I could go on forever..

1300 hours and I'm still around. No game has had me returning so many times. Sad to see a lot of puggernauts, fembots and TGIs in pugs, not to mention harriers, reegars, hurricanes. I'll be out there rocking some odd or lore inspired setup. See you on the battlefield.

I remember when everyone was flipping their collective sh*** when the speculation of the volus characters started before Retaliation came out, and then when they actually confirmed they were indeed adding volus to the multiplayer.

Still is, although because I always Quick Match PuGs off-host, I almost never play it.

Is there a way to change settings without the coalesce.bin file augmentation?

For example, there is the gamersettings.ini

In this I put DepthOfField=False to disable depth of field.  This makes is so my
graphics card just loads everything into memory with a quick spin, and sticks at
60fps.

I'm mostly looking for:

1) disable the 'on screen' effects like 'blood I'm out!'
1a) disable 'geth mode' when the sun shines on monitor screen... It's just flashes.
I have to disable this 'cause last time I went blind IRL for about 20 minutes!
I can't use the tunnel vision... if it makes me lose depth perception IRL.
2) select object in single player (design choice, I'll deal with galactic credits)


Ini settings usually override commands in the other ini files...  so like in every
other Unreal engine game... can't I just put the [header] and details in
the gamersettings.ini?

When I subscriped for a bunch of useless advertisment bullshit online, because they promised me I'd get a code to unlock the multiplayer in the demo. It was only available those who dowloaded the BF3 demo a few weeks before the demo release I think.

When me and my nerd girlfriend went to camp to GameStop 5 hours before the full game released. 

When the Geth didn't ROFLSTOMP and you could grab Pyros.  When there was at least 2-3 Novaguards in the lobby with a Katana all the time. I didn't figure out how to promote for months, so i was N7 120 for almost a year. 

When I unlocked the GE and I leveled up my Mantis, I was the ace of Silver games!

I remember pretty much all of those, except I don't recall people putting the Hurricane on par with the Eagle.

 

It wasn't a great gun, but the at launch Eagle was worse than the Shuriken.

 

The Tactical Cloak wars were fun, though.

The Hurricane was super terrible. It got multiple buffs to damage and a recoil reduction to become the best SMG (no contest there) and one of the top 3-5 weapons overall.

I never noticed it because I never used him much, but he's constantly been one of the best kits in the entire game since he was introduced.

I remember when Premium Spectre Packs only appeared during certain weekend events. Seemed like everyone I ran into was out of consumables because they only bought those packs.

 

Premium veteran packs were the best though. They really should have brought them back with how many uncommons they added into the game.

 

Getting yelled at (justifiably) by every lobby because I spammed reave (WRRRRUBBBBWWRRRUB). Bonus points for pulling targets widow salarian infiltrators were aiming at, or causing screen shake with cluster grenades. I hated salarian infiltrators back then more than I hate puggernauts/ghosts/geth troopers/AIU's now. Hard to believe tac cloak was even stronger back then!
