I find it interesting with the number of people on the character creator I have yet to see duplicate names yet when i have new players at my tabletop games they always seem to find it difficult to come up with something original. It would be interesting to find out if any or how many duplicate names show up in the system. Wonder if bioware has anyway to check that.

There definitely are duplicate names out there. Got a bunch of Celias and Ambers (my namesakes) when I typed them into the Search field for the Profile Pages category.

I left my current avatar's name with the default dwarf noble name, Duran, because I'll be playing on the 360, so these characters are currently just for avatar purposes.

Hmm... Aevas, BloodBeard, Gorgaroth and Ketraxas.

Anyone else have characters by those names?

There are glorious devices out on the internet that generate names from lists of syllables. Just pick one for the setting and there you go.

Thanks for that I hadnt thought of looking things up that way. It will surely list duplicates and in any case would be interesting to just run a few names through there to see just how individual your creative mind is.

Interesting thought, inspired me to find out how rare my characters are.
Of the 4 I have uploaded

Mira is one of 8
Aiden is one of 5
Cassius has only one counterpart
Lysse (my avatar) is the only one :D

kinda fun to look up, and a rather neat way to browse others characters

I, unfortunately, have a small list of names to actually use. Tia (one of 4), Aarik (1 of 1), Mia (1 of 2 as soon as I get her made and uploaded), and Barrett (1 of 1). My female characters are always usually named Tia, Mia, or B****, the latter having come from needing to name a Rock Band character on short notice.

In any RPGs I play my main is usually named June. Surprisingly there aren't any other Junes yet, just a Junea and a Juneru. Of course it's only been, what, 2 days? :P

Just checked for the names i usually use...here's the results:
Smore - 1 of 1
Andalei - 1 of 1
Andalorin - 1 of 1
Morgana - 1 of 2 (surprise there's no more of them)

The first three are my 'regular' character names, Morgana was created as an attempt to create a character who'd look like Morrigan. The resemblence is not too good, but the name is somewhat similar... :)

All in all, i'm satisfied with the individuality of my creative mind :D

Here is the stat of my character names mixed numbers, but overall unique it seems.

Valerius - 1 of 1
Wulfaz - 1 of 1
Ursus - 1 of 1
Sylvester - 1 of 1
Elwyn - 1 of 2
Torgrim - 1 of 3
Marcus - 1 of 16

Well, Marcus was not so unique.

It goes without saying that real-world based names will likely have duplicates, while more unique names like say, Zgyzhr'eal will stand the chance of being the only one out there. On that note, I'm curious to see how many "Drizzt"s pop up over time.

Well, since there aren't any dark elves in DAO, you're more likely to see Legolas than Drizzt. But I'm sure there will still be at least 10.

edit: Maybe I spoke too soon. There are already 6 Drizzts. Actually the number of Legolas match the number of Drizzts.

No other Devotchkas, Haldarainas, Sheneequas, Herpaderps or Jocastas.

Only one of my characters has a name that's duplicate, and that's my namesake Felix, which is used in 3 other characters.

Drizzt is in the lead now!
Gandalf has one.
Boromir has none!
Elminster has two.
Conan has four.

Is Drizzt the most used character name of all?

It's early yet... wait until the game comes out. Right now Thrassus, Cazedlan, and Torrius are all unique, and they are all names I've played in RPGs (tabletop or CRPG) before. But when the game comes out and the numbers grow, I expect the duplicates to rise.

There's two other Robins and one other Ruben, all other 8 are unique so far, which is just as I expected. (Only two of my characters are shown at the moment (one of them under a wrong name 'cause I was stoopa), but I checked 'em all.)

Edit: Okay, one other's kinda taken once, but with a different spelling.

Medina is unique.

Yathrib is unique.

Mecca is unique.

Sunnah is unique.

Pittee (the Fool) is unique.

Note that the first four are names taken straight from the real world, while the fifth is inspired by Mr. T. Image IPB

Yes, well. Have you provided them with a list of names common to your setting?

'Original' names aren't the same as good names.

Names.. I really have trouble coming up with them. I've been logged out of mmorpgs because I was inactive too long in the character creators, trying to come up with something fitting... I think my record is about 2 hours for one name :|

I've not done much with the char creator except test it to provide some feedback. I'll try a reverse strategy this time and first come up with a name, and then create the character's looks.
