Yes, it is indeed their right to do so. But it makes me question their judgement. I didn't even use the duping exploit, I just go around getting (almost) every resource that searching picks up, because I'm OCD like that
But I'll cite some reasons why it is silly that others have pointed out:
- They never fixed the same issue in DA:O/DA2
- It creates more imparity between PC and consoles, seeing as how like you pointed out, PC players can use mods to gain resources. Even if it's not their intention, it makes it seem like they're just punishing console players, because PC has workarounds.
- It's illogical to patch something unharmful when many bugs are still in play.
- And the main reason. That it's an SP-only exploit that harms no one. Add that to the fact that a very low % of the overall playerbase even knows about it, and even fewer use it, it seems ridiculous to me to patch it, especially so early, while many other bugs exist.
So yes, it's their right, and if they want to patch it out, fine. But do it after you've patched the game fully, and patched inevitable problems that come from DLCs. And don't even get me started about the Amulets of Power. They screwed over everyone instead of making an easy fix. See above.
- And? Maybe they couldn't do it then and they finally figured it out this time.
- This "imparity" exists for every single game ever that comes out on consoles and PC. PC games are much more open since they're not tied to a specific hardware architecture. If it bothers you, play the PC version.
- Perhaps the dupe glitch was causing something else and removing it was the easiest fix? Or it was something easy to fix so they went ahead and fixed it? Only BioWare know what they're patch fix priorities are.
- It may not harm anyone but BioWare didn't intend it and they don't want it. And that's the end of it.
For some reason BW players presume too much.
