Jesus, this thread is still going on?

Just in case you didn't read my last post: Cassandra is beautiful.

Case closed.

Il caso è chiuso.

Affaire classée.

Caso cerrado.

It's aways funny how people get upset when others don't like the same things they do.

I don't think you are actually reading what I post at all XD You are taking stuff out of context and failing to comprehend my points, probaply intentionally.

I did not take anything out of context. I asked you to corroborate your claims, which you repeatedly failed to do. When I asked you to provide examples, you responded 'somewhere, not in this thread :)'. In the rest of this post, you talk about 'people' doing X while not doing Y, yet again, you fail to provide ANY sort of substantial support for your allegations, e.g.

Point was people being against scars on female warriors, but not on male warriors although both's job is fighting.

PROOF PLEASE! Polls if possible, a few quotes if not, anything to corroborate your claim that

- a substantial number of people
- want female scars removed
- while simultaneously not wanting male scars removed
- in general.

Because at the moment your argument really comes across as a fight against an imaginary position that you made up to make a statement about sexism, even more so because you fail to show how a statement about Cassie, an individual NPC, can be generalised to a statement about a whole population of female warriors.

I know that sociology is more... forgiving about providing proof but seriously, at this point you make it exceedingly difficult to debate with you because there are so many holes and logical flaws in your statements. If you want to continue this fight against an imaginary enemy, then go ahead, but unless you start actually bringing more substance to the table I'm losing interest. I don't enjoy intellectual shadowboxing.

EDIT/PS. A personal funny. Most of my heroines in SWTOR actually sport scars and look beautiful and kick-ass at the same time.

I can't cause mods have deleted all these threads. I can't give you quotes, examples etc. cause I don't have copies of them in my computer and they don't exist anymore in the BSN. I have my word, but I don't have solid quotes on what people have said.

Also I have been quoting others and talking about their points as well, answering them. Cass' scar thing  started as so. It's not like I'm alone here speaking whatever comes in my mind. It's not like I'm alone here claiming whatever I want ^^

You don't actually have to have intrest on what I post. You can quote someone else if you are bored and leave me to my boxing ;)

I know, and I would. The problem that I do care about is that yelling 'sexism' at alleged, unsubstantiated positions detracts from the issues where sexism is an actual, rather than an imaginary, problem. We still have unequal pay for equal work, glass ceilings, and old age support for mothers on the one hand, and health care for men, young child education, and jurisdiction on the other hand (all of them exemplary of course) as serious problems that need awareness and monumental efforts to solve. I find it annoying, to put it mildly, to see people trying to incite a debate about sexism based on criticism of the looks of one female NPC.

I know real world problems about sexism and that they manifest differently in different places. However popular culture is one of the places where gender unequality appears and what in return affects on people's views as well. It's important to debate sexism in this context as well. I could write essays about gender unequality and feminism IRL and I have as part of my studies, but this is game forum where we talk about game. And if I think some mod is sexist or has sexist reasons behind it, I'll point it out.

What video game character appearance and moding have to do with it?

What country do you live? Unequal pay for equal work doesn't exist, but looks like my second world country is only exception in the world. We are 7 I am only man and 6 females we all get exactly same per hour and it's same everywhere. Except our direct boss who is female get more than me wow such sexism . Our health care sucks but it's nothing to do with sexism.

They obviously care enough to go into thead thread and post a comment. If I'm annoyed by a thread I just ignore it. It seems some people take it personal when others don't like anything about their favorite character. The funny thing is the people who find her ugly (like me) don't feel the necessity to quote everybody who writes how beautiful she is and tell that person that he/she is wrong. It's always the other way around.

Nothing, which is my point. If Panda had ANY basis for her allegations and opened a discussion about sexism inherent in a particular mod or mod request... fine, not really the core of a modding topic, but whatever. But operating on nothing but a personal belief without any grounding in quotable facts to incite a debate about sexism... no. It's not even a debate to begin with, it's random musings about what random people might think, completely unsuitable to invite an exchange of arguments. I doubt even sociologists would accept that as a worthy discussion.

And this is all I'm going to say on this matter before this thread derails completely (if it can actually derail any further at this point).

(Just briefly, to address your question: I live in the EU, and sadly, unequal pay for equal work (I'm aware of the difficulty of using the word "equal" here, but that would fill pages) does still exist, according to numerous statistics; thankfully relatively rarely in jobs with clear and public wage structures, but more often in other jobs, esp. higher up the chain. Then again there are voices that claim that the statistics are erroneous for various reasons, or that the conclusions are wrong... yet another opportunity for a voluminous debate. Elsewhere ;) )

Actually, I've seen far more people trying to tell those who like Cass that they're absolutely wrong than the other way around.

This.

Of course, I'm going to be a bit biased since I do like Cassandra, but you never see threads with "thanks Bioware, [character name] is great!" as the title, it's always some other form of "f*** you Bioware, [character name] sucks/looks like a man/is ugly!".

I remember back when this game was brand new you couldn't escape the "I hate Sera" and "Why can't we kill [companion name]?" threads no matter how hard you tried.

But making threads constantly about it and saying she looks like a man, don't act surprised when people start responding negative towards it

Then we have different experiences. Just go into the Cassandra thread in the story forum. So many people saying how georgous/beautiful/wonderful she is and i didn't see a single person who tries to convince them that they are wrong. While if someone doesn't like her appearance there are always people who quote the person and fell they have to write down that they think she is beautiful. The OP asked a simple question and barely anybody even gave him an answer. Quite the opposite. They tried to convince him how wrong he is and that he should feel bad to not find her attractive. I think she looks masculine and ugly and if I would have found a mod to change her look into something more attractive I would have downloaded it a long time ago, so the question of the OP is valid and there is no need for the harsh responses.

The harsh responses come from the fact that this particular OP spammed the forums about three times before he finally got permanently banned. This is a new account, and you can tell it's him from the whole "mathematically calculating attractiveness" thing. Not to mention that the guy spammed the devs, too. Any sympathy people on the forum may have had for this individual dried up a while ago.

That may be true. I barely visit this forum so I can't judge it. But that raises the question why people just don't ignore the thread and let it die? Why do they feel the necessity to tell the OP how wrong he is?

This. I don't really have a problem if someone simply thinks she's unattractive (I mean, they'd be wrong, but it's cool). I do take issue with the apparent need to continue to make big deals out of it by claiming to be backed up by "data" (remember when Brevnau said he had charts? My god), and claiming that Cassandra being ugly is some universal law of nature.

You really think that people are going to post negative things about Cassandra, in the Cassandra thread? I hope you realize how stupid that sounds.

You ever have a little kid ask the same question over and over no matter how many times you say no? Doesn't it drive you bananas? Wouldn't you love for it to stop?

Same principle.

If someone is unhappy with her look, I think the Cassandra thread would be the right place to write down his/her concerns.

And your GIF proves what I wrote. I'm now a troll because dared to voice my opinion. Not surprised it's coming from someone with a Cassandra pic as an avatar.

In my case, I just mock people who whine about characters not being attractive, regardless of how I feel about the character. As far as I'm concerned, if someone is so perturbed by not finding a fictional character attractive that they have to rush to a forum and "OMG TELL EVERYONE ABOUT IT" then that person is in need of a good mocking.

It's what makes the internet go around.
