The sad thing is i only know Ashley From ME 1 + 2, i never actually got far into ME 3 ( i got off Earth?), i found it so jarringly linear and small closed areas i uninstalled, so to be honest i've never completed ME 3 or the franchise, i never even saw the bad ending.

I also hated how Liara was mostly a bit part after ME 1.....that hurt a lot.

I guess it similar to how i felt with Dragon Age but i pushed myself to complete it, and it did have nice points in Inquisition (i wish there were more though).

Ha, you'd love Liara in ME3, then. She gets all the screen time, for some reason. Maybe becoming the Shadow Broker makes her more important than our protagonist. Also, she's got a big role in the Lair of the Shadow Broker DLC for ME2. But, that "big role" comes complete with an abrupt and jarring facelift.

You're right, though. ME3 was oddly linear, more than ME2.

One of the things that bothered me the most about ME3 was how, unlike in the previous two games, we had very little say in the conversations, very few dialogue choices. It was different, and not in a good way. I've noticed a trend of Bioware trying different things and failing quite frequently. On the whole, I still love the Mass Effect trilogy. As for Dragon Age, I love the first two games enough to make up for Inquisition.

Of topic, I know but... you mean you only got to Mars? I consider that one as a part of the prologue. The game opens up after that. Despite the ending (I used a mod), it's amazing game. You should give it shot. (I always let Ashley go boom, myself.)

Lol, killing off Ashley is a mercy to her character, in my opinion. Buuut, I don't like Kaidan enough anymore to save him instead.

I dunno. I feel that what ME2 gave more of was atmosphere, but in terms of actual level design, felt more confining than ME3's, not to mention was easily the most blatant in looking like a cover shooter arena. Of course some of the side missions in ME3 were those small multiplayer maps, but main story stuff was pretty wide open in comparison to the previous game.

We're going a bit OT here but... ME3 to me was a great game, especially with some DLCs (most notably: the Citadel DLC and the Extended Endings DLC). And while I do have some issues (pratically discarded companions from ME2, 'empty'-feeling Normandy, ...), ME3 is definitely worth playing IMO. Many of my most memorable ME moments are in ME3, e.g. Mordin's fate (*sobs*), Legion's and Tali's fate (*sobs again*). If you can make yourself look past the linearity in area layouts (yes, they pretty much are, but imo they're well done!), I'd definitely recommend giving it another try. And to be frank: can't get any worse than DA:I now can it? ;)

Re: realism in combat outfits. I think I may be an odd one out in this respect but part of the appeal of the James Bond movies was that you had this bad-ass agent going through a pitched battle and coming out with an impeccably clean and well-arranged suit, ready to turn heads at the dinner party. It was unrealistic, but innocent fun. I don't like the new movies with Craig at all. They're gritty, realistic, and have lost most of what I actually found endearing about Bond movies. Now they just stink of testosterone and blood -- not my cup of tea any more.

I liked Ash's ME3 outfit (minus the somewhat ridiculous faux-heels, but that's simply a fashion statement  ), and I never even considered her being a Miranda clone.

I'm surprised by the outrage in this thread. What someone else does in their single player game should not affect anyone here.

There is a huge difference between demanding changes to the characters from BioWare and simply modding the game. One affects everyone, changes the artistic vision and the story... and the other one only affects you if you allow it.

Seriously, why are people upset about something that someone does in private? Something that doesn't change your experience one bit?

In my personal opinion mods like Isabela with white skin or all women in bikinis are just wrong... but that's just my opinion and nothing more. Let's be honest... no one is perfectly political correct in their fantasies, in their own mind. We all have thoughts that we would never speak out loud. But that's okay because, again, it doesn't affect anyone else. I am sure that people know the difference between an NPC and a real person and act accordingly.

Modding a game and playing it is completely voluntarily. You don't have to deal with any of that if you don't want to.

I may be finding those mods to be silly, distasteful and wrong... but that's just my opinion and it is worth exactly as much as the opinion of someone who enjoys playing in a Thedas filled with super models. And that's okay.

It's kind of amusing that the BioWare forum is suddendly narrow-minded and demands that everyone conforms to the given standards, condemning all deviations. ;)

What the OP did wrong was trying to argue with science. Instead they could have just said: I want it because I like it. End of story. It's just a matter of personal taste, nothing more. Interpreting this question in the worst possible way is not going to net anyone positive results.

Modding is something you don't have to see unless you go looking for it. If it upsets you? Don't look. It's as easy as that. I have no idea why this thread needed seven pages of discussions...

I agree with the attire being just innocent fun, I have no problem with that. The the problem is Ash called out Miranda wearing a "swimsuit" in battle, but Ash has an outfit that is almost an exact replica. Where's the logic in that? Ash was a conservative alliance soldier in ME1 and 2, and seeing her appearance and demeanor change right after ME2 when Miranda was introduced it was just too funny. She let her hair down and wears a suit that matches Miranda's, but then calls Miranda out on what she's wearing. IMO with her new look she was a clone, whom was there to fill the eye candy role that Miranda had in ME2; Which isn't a bad role for Miranda because that was Miranda's character (just look at all the purposeful ass shots in ME2) but it felt bad for Ash because she never felt like that type of character.

I liked both MEs, except the ridiculus ME3 ending.  ... choices and consequences my techus.  Did you not find ME3 more linear than 2?

Looking Forward

ME4, I fear, will be more like DAI in level design(s)  ---> full of a vast empty expanse with worlds waiting to be explored by the Macko.... grinding exercise by any other name.  This "explore the expanse" idea is much easier on cost cutting than actually filling the game with useable content and meaningful quests, tighter character development and team interactions or as you say atmosphere creation.

Oh, wait! What am I thinking? It's a console action game.. no need for a good story. And, since EA's policy is to reach a "broader audience" the game will be toned down to button smashing infantile pablum. That will be in line with Hilleman's (senior EA exec) " EA games take too long to learn"

On the other hand, while cost cutting (see para. 1 above) Bio will spend money on making sure they remain politically correct by giving the various sexual orientation characters the necessary shallow dialogues, VO acting and the must have teaser romance cut scenes.  I suppose I can go out on a limb and hope for an alien dance club or two with amusing dancing scene(s)... the R&R after a long trip.

Personally, I wish the Montreal Studio best wishes in developing ME4 with the idea to avoid ME3's mistakes and over-hyped crap and also refusing to make the same errors in PC UI design as in DAI.

Indeed. I'm just waiting for the first trailer/preview/ad to vaunt "procedurally generated quests", a.k.a. "UNLIMITED QUESTS! objectively none of any two missions are ever the same, but the only difference is that instead of grandma's lost apples in (x1, y1) you now retrieve uncle Joe's lost spectacles in (x2, y2)." I actually remember that being a major selling point for Guild Wars 2. >.<

Please Bioware, prove me wrong.

To the first part: Why? That's a rather axiomatic demand.

To the second part: Aha. I have long suspected that this is probably one of the main reasons why quite a few people get so worked up over requests to change the looks of <x>. Somehow criticising an NPC's aesthetic design is equivalent to criticising a RL person's looks. Extra tip: It's not. The world would be freaking boring if all we could do in our fantasies was to reproduce what was all around us. Imagine: I would have to model my protagonist after myself, and nobody would want to see that, myself included ;)

Fun fact that I have wanted to bring up for a long time but always forgotten: SWTOR actually has companion customisations. It's a brilliant feature IMO: You can choose among as many as 10 or so different looks for each of your companions, which include variations on race, hairdo, tattoos etc. I love it. BW probably won't do it but having such a system for DA:I too would probably accomodate a lot of people.

Character's ages have been said by their writers. I can headcanon an older Josie, sure, why not? But that's not her age. It's pretty simple.

It's not about criticizing a person's look. I never said that, I think. It's about criticizing the job of the writer and modelers that designed Cass to be that way. I'm not gonna discuss personal opinions because it's pointless. You might think she's hot or she's ugly, by the end of the day that's irrelevant. Cass is Cass, there is nothing else. I'll tell you a little story about how they did this exact same thing with Michelangelo's frescoes in the Sistine Chapel. Some serious guys decided they didn't like those muscular, naked, young bodies and painted clothes over it. It's a soft form of censorship. "Cass' jaw bothers me, I'll change it."

Disgusting? How so? Especially if, as you say, "people are entitled to play the game however they like".

Just because you acknowledge a person's right to do something doesn't mean you can't think that what they're doing is gross.

ex: If you like to eat poop. I acknowledge that you're well within your rights to do so, doesn't mean I don't think you're disgusting for doing it.

Isn't this a TES thing?

First implemented in Skyrim, specifically. The "radiant quests" were among the things they boasted to sell the game. Though, I don't know if it's a thing in ESO, as the concept of Elder Scrolls + MMO makes me angry, and therefore the game is dead to me.

I'm worried about this as well. I don't really want these big open worlds from Bioware, I want story content from them that will suck me into their world and characters that make me feel things. Not running aimlessly around while doing fetch quests. I can already do that with free-to-play MMORPG's, though I don't want to and that's why I'm not playing them anymore, just too boring.

I feel like DAI went wrong direction with this, more open worldness and less that Bioware I'm looking for

I'm even more worried about ME when the lead writer is from Halo and not one that worked with ME's previously. Cause I think ME1-3 were amazing until last 10 minutes that butchered ME3.

If that is true, then my PC graphics card is to blame for making her look older. I always thought she was in her 30s.

You keep saying this as though it's concrete truth. I'm going to assume the best and hope that you know how stupid that sounds.

I'm fairly certain you don't know how human reproduction works, if you think that it's "mostly" tied to smell.

LOL!

It reminds me of a fantasy story where this young and beatiful girl who travelled alone in a sword/bow/horse tech level. To ensure that men would NOT be interested in her, she would deliberately keep herself unwashed, clothes and all. And, I mean smelly. Hillarious were the comments made by the soldiers and town guards when she came near them...

Agh, it doesn't really sound like I will be fan of this new ME. It sounds like they are centering the game around the one thing I disliked most- exploration with Mako. If I want to play car game I buy one. Sigh, it doesn't really seem like Bioware knows why they are popular or then they know and they don't like it, cause they are popular for story and characters, not for exploration and open world-games.

I guess these things should be discussed in ME4 forum instead of here though.. but there isn't one yet ^^;

Though since OP already got answer to his question I think it's okay to go little off-topic.

It's funny you say this because I feel the exact opposite I loved the huge open spaces in inqusition and the fetch quests as you call them so for me atleast if they do this it will be much appreciated as for the mako I was disappointed that they removed it"sigh" but everyone is different I suppose.

Ugh the only part of that mod I like is the removal of that damnable lipstick. Other than that the person made her face really red and blotchy which in my opinion as an artist looks terrible I also personaly prefer her facial structur in inqusition but that just my opinion.
