I don't like this new bioware, they focus too much on odd content rather than RPG.
Pillars of Eternity did better than Inquisition on metacritic

Too bad they're not in the same year.
Now it has to compete with The Witcher 3! ![]()

They're both feature rich games with a different demographic and target audience. I understand where the comparisons come from, but honestly just let the DA:I fans be happy with DA:I, and the PoE fans be happy with PoE.
More often than not, the "this game is better because it's more successful on Metacritic so let's be more like it" is exactly the kind of attitude that creates the kind of games that gamers like to rage about.
I used to be frustrated with BioWare, because I had no other outlet for a non-Action RPG with decent production values. That's no longer the case and the market is big enough to support both kinds of games. So why not just let it happen? Vote with your wallet and buy games that cater to you.

So, metacritic scores mean little anyway.
This.
I love PoE but Metascore is a terrible judge of quality.

While generally I'd agree, Obsidian is probably the one studio where you wouldn't say that Metacritic means little/nothing. They had to do a round of layoffs after missing a bonus from Bethesda that was tied to their New Vegas Metacritic score.
Unless you mean user scores, then yeah that's complete trash.

BTW, if that Majority say this is a great game, then it is a great game:

That being said, there is no doubt that Obsidian are a very talented developer. Their games have always been high on ambition and artistic quality, and their reputation for poor production quality are often due to bad luck and/or too much ambition. The reception to this game so far affirms this view.

Both really.
I know about the New Vegas stuff, but that was mostly their rough deal with Bethesda, being a clause in their contract versus Obsidian's fault over New Vegas.
If anything, blame a bad practice.

True, but Pillars is an incredibly solid game so it doesn't really apply here.

for me a solid game is one that gives me a entertaining cinematic experience so Pillars isnt even on the radar

Ryse: Son of Rome.
Fantastic cinematic experience and brutally hard on legendary difficulty.

You mean that time when people fought each other over Nintendo and Sega?
Or are we talking Pong and Atari times?

Well in my area when you talked Nintendo VS Sega it was actually quite civil, we even acknowledged the strengths and weaknesses of each system. One time the teacher allowed two teams to do a project on each company (I was on the Nintendo side) and the end result was that people wanted to play games on both systems.
So technically we didn't have "The Console Wars" in my area, we just had people that just wanted to have fun.

First of all we got 2 Pillars of Eternity threads in off-topic, use them. And second of all this game is beeing idolized because of nostalgia goggles, don't get me wrong it is a great game. But lets not get carried away on all fronts just because it triggered some good childhood memories.

Any of these areas, perhaps?
