Never played u9 but I really liked u8, it had a unique feel from the other Ultima games but was still an Ultima game. The physics were a bit fiddly sometimes though.
I liked U8, too. Hence my user name.
But the jump puzzle parts and the atrocious inventory and the exploding chests and mushrooms and the bugs and the missing storylines and the weird graphics and animations for the Avatar... well, those made the game frustrating at times. U9 was even worse, something I thought was impossible until I played it.
@nat in the hat: Yeah, Spoony's reviews were perfect.
Do you know what the gaming press said about U8? An unplayable, buggy mess that was almost universally reviled by gamers until it got kind of fixed much later?
From the original box:
"The best role playing game ever" - PC Gamer
"Buy this now - it's the best of it's kind" - PC Home grammar error @EA, not me
Bleargh. **** this noise. These days people hear Origin and think of EA's attempt of a Steam clone, not the game developer who was responsible for the Wing Commander series, the Ultima series, Strike Commander, Pacific Strike and for publishing System Shock. Later former Origin developers created Deus Ex under the Ion Storm label.
