Dear Bioware,

Who's was the guy who said "Hey, let's make skyrim!" during the deveopment of this game? Because I sugest you fire him or her. Yes, skyrim is very popular and yes I did buy it, however it remains a deeply flawed experience mostly due to the lack of cohesive story, shitty combat mechanics, and excesive amounts of wandering around aimlessly. Unfortuetely you have chosen to emulate these flaws. Which I shall helpfully list below.

DA: Scavenger Hunt. too many fetch quests. Too much optional stuff. One of the thing I enjoy most about Bioware games are the tight storylines. Almost everything pays off in some way related to the main quest. For some reason you have abandoned this prictice in DA:I. I can't imagine anyone who played the first two games and thought "You know, this would be a great game if there was more wardering about being lost!". No one in the history of time has ever said that.

Combat:
For some reason you feel the need to redesign the combat engine with every game. Stop it. You're only making it worse. DA:O had the classic combat from the kotor games, it's perfect as it is. In DA2 you decided to get rid of it to impliment some sort of half-assed double dragon beat 'em up thing. For DA:I you appear to be trying to merge the two into some sort of clunky hybrid. And like most hybrids it fails spectacularly, makeing combat really dull. Let me save you some time and money, go back to the original system.

I'm looking forward to the release of Dragon Age: Farmer. Where I can scour the vast lands for hours collecting herbs and materials to sell for pennies.

While I am not a fan of Skyrim and did find that game "deeply flawed" I am really enjoying DA:I. The artwork (despite the hairstyles and PJ design choices) is spectacular and so imaginative. I love the detail of the scenery - from the caterpillar eaten leaves to the huge ominous statues growing out of the rocks. I love the humor of the companion banter (I don't have the banter issue) and the richness of the romances and other relationships that develop. The effort that went into writing so many variations of dialogue depending on your choices - who knew I could smack Solas! The lore is rich and deep and the number of unanswered questions leaves the path wide open for future dlcs and games.

There are a fair number of collections and some of the side quests are kind of lame (like Lord Woolsley and the Golden Halla), and I have become a total racist regarding the Orlesians (stop with the arrogance and the masks already LOL!!) but I am on my forth full play through and am still having fun and discovering new things. So while it is not a perfect game, IMO it is a game with soul and with elements of brilliance that should be , again IMO, acknowledged.

Most of the RPGs I play have these so called "fetch-quests" - although I think there were more of them in Skyrim? Yet som many people love that game. Go figure!

Interestingly, I think a lot of what is being criticized in DA:I (save the PC and last gen problems) is ironically a lot of what fans were asking for after DA2 - so I wonder if there is really any way for Bioware to win. There will never be another DA:O and maybe therein lies the challenge. Its like your one true love  - nothing quite matches up after that! Time and winsome memories color perception sometimes.

As for combat - I personally just like to hack and slash and leave the tactics to someone else, so the combat issue in a non-issue for me.

OP - I would be interested in knowing which rpg games you are enjoying.

Seriously, Lord Woolsley? That is one of the few side quests that have more than one possible ending.

Yep.  For giggles, try attacking him.

The thing about DA:I emulating Skyrim (and failing) is because Dragon Age is a very strongly story-driven game. Skyrim is exploration-driven with almost no importance to story. Skyrim is all about doing whatever and discovering random stuff while wandering around a open world. DA:I can't emulate that and be successful, for the simple reason that it's not that kind of game.

Besides, something else that is almost fundamental to Skyrim's fun factor is modding, something woefully lacking in DA:I. If this game had modding support, I'm pretty sure it would have been a lot of fun.

Yeah , but the game or a Game should stand on it's own . If we have to need mods for a game to be fun...then it isn't a Game worth playing .

I actually bought Skyrim based solely on the premise that it would be a great platform for mods, just like Oblivion was. The day a TES game does not support modding is the day I will stop playing the franchise. Skyrim on it's own doesn't have that great a lifespan, but it's certainly better than DA:I's. I did 1 DA:I playthough and was done. I got Skyrim when it came out, and I still dip in from time to time. Hell, people are still buying the game.

Another game that has extreme popularity because it's considered a platform for mods is Minecraft. So I suppose there is a market out there for the 'mod platform' genre.

Story games don't usually need mods . Mods become a Plus to add to the game already being awesome . At least , thats how I see it .

Not sure what kinda mods ArmA has, but military shooters (military stuff in general) doesn't do it for me.
