Did you just say you infrequently see the Geth Trooper?

Then it's finally happened.

I havent seen many of them since I came back to MP several months ago. Now it's AIUs and Juggies.

Guess I need to respec to Flamer GTS and start playing ME3 pugs instead of fooling around holding down left mouse in DAI.

Or they are looking for a way to burn through that cryo ammo.

Well one thing I noticed with more casual gamers is that instead of looking up a forum or an FAQ, they instead YouTube everything. That and most folks would rather YouTube for simple answers then actually read up something much more in-depth. My sisters x husband is like this (and he's terrible at videogames too, lol).

I also remember seeing a few minutes of this terrible KroGuard Gold farming vid a few days ago (terrible in that he was not setup for enough melee, not sure if he evenn had a melee mod) and rocking it against Geth on Glacier. Well next day I hear this one pug talk about how he seen this one guy solo with the KroGuard, and I right away thought of that video (since that video for me came up next in a forced playlist, so it must be popular/seen enough). Anyway, to me this backed up this YouTube thing I'm talking about. And it also isn't the last time I heard pugs mentioning seeing something on YouTube. Always YouTube. Never BSN, or ME3mp compendium, or what not. YouTube. There nothing but YouTube to many.

PS- oh yeah, and most can understand English  a bit if not at all, thus YouTube is again the answer.

EDIT - you guys are also way too hard on Lucky. Especially since most of us were there just starting out like Lucky with this game. He's also great insight into the new players to this game mindset. And I only seen one reply acknowledge this with the fact that, yes he may not have any consumables (ie. Cyclonics), and I did post a link to his consumables and he really does have nothing. That and new players to not play this game like veterans.

Are outtie bellybuttons overpowered? I call upon the combined wisdom of BSN.

My brother fixed his outtie recently, and yes, he's not that overpowered anymore.

This has been a sponsored BSN announcement. Talk to your Doctor about fixing that outtie today to cure you of down the road epeen complications.

Nah, they were appropriately hard... mostly. They probably feel the same way as I do when someone says HSol is squishy.

P. S. YT and BSN serve different purposes and complement each other. BSN is good for discussing either very broad or very narrow topics. It also makes sense to discuss builds here. But a build itself isn't always self-explanatory as to how to play it. Which is what YT for - live gameplay.

I don't think it is fair to say youtube videos are the casual way to learn...  They are an excellent way to learn, and I would even go so far as to say the single best way to do so.  After all, what can be better than seeing every single thing that a skilled player does over the course of a game?

I think the example you gave has more to do with being new and not knowing the depth of what is possible in this game (i.e. they think a gold solo is difficult still).

Because just watching a gameply video will not explain to you how DR works, or why to use RHA, or exactly how much damage and piercing you need to be able to OSK a Phantom after she bubbles.

Unless the video is specifically about those things, but most are just raw gameplay footage.

Conversly, the forum can tell you about RHA (well somewhere I am sure it does) but seeing it does a better job of this, they will show you by example how and when to kite during a solo, they will show you where spawn points are (I actually don't think I have ever seen a spawn map on bsn), they will show you where to aim on boss units and when to go for one weak point over another (for example shooting the canopy for triple hits vs shooting off a knee plate for a stagger), they will show you how to handle phantoms, they will show you how to use builds and loadouts and then show you what the build/loadout was.

Granted, coming here will teach you a ton you wouldn't find via youtube videos, but if we are being honest, how much does it really matter that you know the specifics of the damage reduction formula for example?  It won't impact your playstyle, just your builds.  You could become a decent player just lifting builds off of youtube videos, learning how to play them and not worrying about it =P

Finally, even on BSN, not too many people can manage a Platinum solo at level 1, or with no consumables used, or in under 20 min, or even 10 WS.  If I look up one of those videos, it will give me access to knowledge a new player can be confident in.  On BSN, that same knowledge comes with flame wars, trolling and people talking out of their asses; not that there is anything wrong with that ;)   Again, BSN is great, but I think YouTube is a powerful tool in learning any game and not one that should be designated as a tool for casuals.

The resource library has tons of YT links, but way more valuable info such as wave budgets, spawn locations, spread sheets, and most commonly unknown facts. So BSN wins over YT by a huge margin.

I am not debating that YouTube is an important, even essential, tool for when you want to GIT GUD. I am just saying that most YouTube videos do not give the depth of explanation that you can find in written materials.

Basically all the good parts of the resource library (sticked at the top of the message list -- hint, hint for new players) -- there are no YouTube videos explaining that stuff in detail.

You should read and you should watch and you should practice. That's how you get good.

Agreed, though there are at least a few videos explaining things in detail (and often produced by the BSN community, but they still exist on YouTube...).

For example, it took me a few seconds to find this video and it seems to cover things like reload canceling, RHA, etc.

Well ok, as long as you don't give up speaking your mind. As I really enjoy your perspective on this game. Plus can still remember some of my thoughts being similar to yours at one point. So yeah, I see your perspective as nothing but very insightful.

I've said it before but when the experts give advice and you yourself are not an expert, DO take it at face-value and try it extensively. When I was a newbie, many builds that I wrote off were suddenly incredibly powerful when I got gud. Patience is key. Just keep practicing and you'll get the hang of everything in no time.

And recording gameplay vids or playing with more experienced people makes it much easier to see what you do best and what needs improvement and how to get better.

I see you've done a platinum solo (once) so you have that going for you... but you're still an idiot and your arrogance is astounding.  The GTS can be setup a bunch of different ways and still beast everything.  YOU may not like cryo rounds, but that's probably because you're play style doesn't compliment them.  When you start playing the game well and learn how to use characters to their potential, you'll eventually see the benefits of the acolyte / cryo rounds on the GTS.  Saying your way is the only way to play the character effectively and efficiently is like saying the GI javelin is the only way to build the GI.

I don't know how conceited did his build (and I'm too lazy to look) but I prefer a 65654 build.  Damage is optional instead of Reach.  Hurricane is optional as a secondary (if you have troubles killing guardians).  Feel free to substitute a cyclonic instead of a power amp, or engineering kit instead of stronghold package.  This build gets you the strongest flamer and still allows you to be rather beefy.

The Acolyte (as we all know) is awesome for dealing with shields.  Cryo rounds will freeze mooks so you don't have to worry about them from far away.  It slows down enemies so you can flame them longer (like brutes).  It also weakens armor, meaning your flamer does even more damage.  In platinum, that makes a HUGE difference.  Sure, you can use other ammo types and get close to the same outcome, but I'd rather save my other ammo types for characters that can better utilize them (and suck with cryo ammo).  The GTS is one of the few characters that greatly benefits from cryo ammo- there's no reason not to use them on him.

Don't knock something just because you're not good enough or lack the knowledge on how to properly use a character (or in your case, both).

It slows down enemies so you can flame them longer (like brutes).

Thing is, it isn't always necessary to flame for longer periods. Quick licks of the flamer after an Acolyte shot are already ridiculously powerful and with the flame/shoot/flame/repeat timing you can drop a brute in mere seconds.

I posted a video a few pages back (poorly executed because I was in a hurry to get it uploaded) that shows the routine. Granted that was wave 1 mooks but I don't change that routine in any noticeable way for later waves. Can be pulled off using other weapons, too. EG: Adas, GPS, Venom all have fire rates that sync well for this method and doesn't leave you locked in the flamer stance for very long. Keeping your exposure to a minimum.

The only time I find myself leaving the flamer on for longer periods is when there is a few enemies left in the wave and all are concentrating firepower on them. Typically a banshee or other large unit.
