I'm fairly new to the game and I love it so far. I chose to be a rogue DW and I'm loving it. I was wondering what your favorite classes are and why? I probably don't know half of what is good to use so please enlighten me!
Thanks!

Rogue Archer is my favorite. All 3 specializations are fun and viable on Nightmare difficulty. My Inquisitor is an Assassin that's responsible for death dealing from a safe distance. Varric is my ranged DPS sidekick with his party buffs and (surprising for the AI) survivability.
My favorite skills are Stealth (obviously), Full Draw (opening move), Explosive Shot (clustered enemies), Long Shot (BnB), Mark of Death (high health targets).

Nice. I'm still getting used to the skill sets and how to properly utilizing them. Thanks for the advice!

I love my Mage. I went Rift Mage for my first playthrough - He is a damage dealing monster with some amazing CC abilities. The thing about Inquisition is this:
The skills are similarly setup as Dragon Age 2 was. In Dragon Age Origins and its expansions, I had always picked damage dealing skills. I never had to worry (too much) about debuffing skills. I would get skills like mana clash (I think it was that one - The one where you explode all of their mana and do damage to them) - or Primarily damage dealing
DA2 was different in that you really needed to pick just a couple main damage dealers and the rest buffs/de-buffs - Its the same in DA:I as well, except I believe there are a lot more to choose from
My long winded point is when you are looking through the tree's trying to figure out how you want to spec. Dont focus on the main damage dealers, there are several skills in each tree and class that are absolutely amazing and help your damage potential without doing any damage themselves - I mean, I made use of an ice wall in my build...an ice wall that does no damage really helped me against arrows lol

2H Templar is my favorite. I love the twang and vibration when I block and attack. I like knocking people over and smashing them into bits on the ground. I like to see the earth break open from my attacks. I love the look and feel of wrath of heaven and rally, as you turn the tide and smash your enemy to bits. 2H Templar is like playing an archangel of vengeance.
And thanks to MelissaGT, these exemplify what it means to be a Templar. Too bad it's not using a 2H too.

I like Warrior Champion. Pop off To The Death with En Garde (great skill names by the way) and watch the poor fool's health evaporate as my guard skyrockets. It really exemplifies "the best offense is a good defense" and you don't have to worry about in-lore drawbacks like being a Templar (lyrium addiction) or a Reaver (going mad from Dragon Blood).
Plus Lord Chancer is a great specialist trainer.
"It's good to be Champion!"

The former is a death dealing machine whereas the latter has been the surprise package among all specs for me.

S&S Champion
Rift Mage/Nercomancer
Melee Artificer/Assassin
I'm probably the only guy not a fan of the Knight Enchanter

Because I'm playing gadget-y rangers for twenty years in whichever game enables it and am too set in my ways at this point.

My favourite class is the rouge archer with the assassin specialisation. I'm fine with a Rift-mage too but archer definitely takes the price for me.

I feel like one of the strengths of Inquisition's combat system is that all of the classes are fun to play. I've never really fallen in love with a sword & shield warrior before but this game really makes it feel active and fresh, for me. Archery can also be a little boring for me in some games but I've found myself really enjoying my new archer Cadash. I don't think you can really go wrong with any class in DAI.

For pure fun, I like artificer for all the bombs and traps.
For lore reasons, I enjoy the 2H/reaver spec with a dwarf warrior. The first being that House Cadash was originally warrior caste and berserker/reaver spec would go hand-in-hand back in Origins so I liked the idea of continuing in that fashion, especially since berserker was originally taught by the dwarves. I chose the violent Carta background for my dwarf so going on the offensive with the reaver spec fit pretty well. And there's the nifty claw animations to boot.

I enjoy being a KE mage followed by a S&S Templar. DW Tempest is fun too. I've yet to play as an archer. I just don't find ranged play that enjoyable.

well in rpgs I love playing mages, which usually are tempted to get a lot of power for themselves. In inquisition for instance my mage at first really respected Viv but then saw her as a rival. I also found it funny how everyone was giving me a hard time by making comments once my quisi speced into necro. That was a bit more realistic than in DA2 where a blood mage Hawke can just walk around everywhere with blood dripping from his/ her coat sleaves even the chantry and in front of templars and never get a comment about it or anything.
in dai "real time" combat mechanics greatly improved and are more responsive imo so playing assassins and rogues is much more fun than in previous games.
as mage you generally are the long range general on the field of battle as it involves mass crowd control of enemy movement. it"s a thinking game, which abilities to use now and which to save for a moment later when they can be more effective.
As SnS warrior you are usually the tank or close quarters general taking the beating and letting everyone else do their thing. As two hander (also SnS reaver and Templar) you can mix it up with massive damage output in burst, you just have to be careful, as a reaver when to go full aggro and when to hold back.
DW Assassins / asassin archers are kings of single target elimnation. You can pretty much destroy anything you focus your attack on, then wait a bit (restealth) and move on to the next target. Also fun.
KEs are loved as they are sort of jack of all trades and decent at everything (close combat and ranged) and very surviveable. But rogues and warriors can do more damage more quickly, SnS warriors have equal or greater survivability and can manage and hold aggro for the team better, and a rift or necro has more potential when played right for massive crowd control.

I've been trying out different classes, and so far I still prefer my original Knight-Enchanter - there really is a lot of flexibility for different playstyles in that class. You can be a ranged staff-user who attacks from a distance, lay traps on the battlefield, support your party with barriers, do crowd-control / AoE damage, and then zip forward and get into the thick of melee and tank - all in the same battle, if you want.
Even though I'm playing a rogue in my current playthrough (re-spec between dual-wielding and archer, slightly preferring archer at this point), I still find myself switching to party members like Vivienne to handle certain tasks in battles like putting up barriers or laying Fire Mines, though maybe that has more to do with the AI and hand-holding your party members. I'm sure my rogue will eventually do way more damage than a K-E ever could, but I think I preferred the jack-of-all-trades approach of feeling like one class could handle any situation.

And if you'd like some shots of her using a 2h, I sure can provide. ![]()

Until this weekend I would say that a Mage/Knight Enchanter was my favorite. I certainly have a lot of them. But I finally got around to trying Archer/Artificer in a clean restart (my preferred way to run a class). OMG that is just so insane. Elemental Mines+ is my favorite skill. Also Archers are more fun if you do the work to get good schematics early. I like running Rogues in DA:I because of those early locked doors in haven that only Rogues can open since you can't bring Varric with you. Also I found a great look for a female elf and prowler armor looks perfect on elves, someone cared and did some fine tuning. Not like my Qunari with his arms not attached (gaps at shoulder).
So Archer/Artificer is now my favorite, it is so much fun!

I oddly prefer warriors (either type myself, and I play on normal really). odd since in Science Fiction games I live ranged builds more. My more of an issue thing is deciding the perfect race. Qunari seems like the best background for a two handed character, but Dwarf w&s reaver sound just plain brutal.

In terms of pure roleplaying and fun for each class:
#1 Mage:
KE
Rift Mage
Necromancer
#2 Rogue:
Assassin
Artificer
Tempest
#3 Warrior:
Reaver
Champion
Templar (absolutely last, so boring, just plain "suckage")
In actual order from best to worst:
KE > Rift Mage > Assassin > Artificer > Necromancer > Reaver > Tempest > Champion > Templar (boring)

I tend to like each class for a little bit different styles to play. Mages are often one of my preferred styles however and I had an absolute blast with my lightning rift mage.
As for Demiga saying they used CC a lot more in DA2 than DA:O. it was the complete opposite for me. Even in nightmare I found vary little reason to use it in the second game. Even on my mages it was usually just a matter of positioning and overwhelming force over CC.
Nightmare in DA:O on the other hand I used it a bit more to control mages and such and to make fights a lot easier. combining glyphs for paralyze blasts was a very powerful tool in that game. In the earlier levels of play I also used it to shut down certain tough or boss types while I dealt with their adds. particularly blood mages and the like. It could buy me some valuable time so I could take out other things or get into position to shut them down permanently. Or to let my tanks build up valuable threat. And with mages you had CC in all 4 schools of magic for example so it's pretty easy to take some CC and put it to use.
