Hello to the boards and the posters that keep it alive!  I'm a bit of a newb in the Mass Effect series to be completely honest, really only entered it about ... 2 - 3 months ago,  BUT I've been steadily building up my personal Wiki of anything and everything Mass Effect.

Got a few questions related to Achievements with Mass Effect on Origin (vs. Steam, I know, I'm a traitor :( ), and how I can make sure I don't lose them for my future playthroughs.

Firstly, it's my understanding that should I do a clean uninstall of Mass Effect 1 - I'm talking about Revo Uninstaller Pro comboed with a little hunt'n'peck through Files and Folders with "Show All" checked, and than a similar approach with the regedit option - and than RE-INSTALL Mass Effect 1, the Achievements are not saved on any sort of online database, as they would be with Dragon Age: Origins, is that about correct?  I'm continuing under that assumption.  If it's not, than halle-freakin'-lujuh!  :D

Now,  let's say I don't completely uninstall Mass Effect.  I do however have 2 Characters that unlocked a majority of the Achievements (I'm missing 3 Ally Achievements (Liara, Wrex, & Kaidan), all of the Tech Power Achievements, and the Hardcore & Insanity Achievements); if I have started up a third character for an "Official run" (meaning that this character I plan to import to Mass Effect 2), and I than delete the other 2 character's that earned all those Achievements prior, will I lose the Achievements as well?  Or do the Achievements stay with the PC Origin Gamer Profile so long as it's installed, or so long as there is an Active Character who was built while those achievements were unlocked?

Last question: As I'm really playing Mass Effect 1 to make my Save File Transfer over to Mass Effect 2 official (not using any of the tools online (though I think about it every now and than) I do plan on removing the game from my single SSD, which is where I have the games I play and my operating system.  Now, I do have a ridiculous amount of space in my rusty HDD's (around ... 4 Terabytes I think).  Can I move the most relevant files of Mass Effect 1 over there for a more easy re-install should I choose to go back to it later on?  I know there's the cloud storage, but I prefer to have a backup of my own, just in case.

Thanks to anyone and everyone that looks at this and especially if you can answer one or more of my questions.  Currently playing an adept based on the suggestions made by capn233 on the Forums, and he is truly awesome.  Good Games all.  :)

Complete Aside: Sorry for the egghead profile, :P.  If anyone knows of a good resource for updating my profile pic, it'd be appreciated.  Personally, I'd like one of default Male Shep as he's watching Anoleis get dragged away on Noveria, he's just got this devious, smug bastard smile that I love :D

AFAIK Achievements are stored in the "Profile.MassEffectProfile" file in the "<User>\Documents\BioWare\Mass Effect\Save\" folder,  together with all the saves.

Backing up this file should be enough (I never tested this, but I know that I lost all achievements when this file was deleted accidentally).

This file is not dependant on specific characters, so deleting any does not remove achievements gained during that playthrough.

(Maybe that file is deleted together with the very last character, though. I'm not sure about that.)

This file is also the only one you really should make a backup of (, if you want to keep the Achievements). Char<number> -files for future (re-) imports might also be useful.

As for Origins cloud storage function, I do not know what it really saves (and what not) because I've never used it.

If you really want to back up the ME install directory or not might depend on your connection and Origin download speed.

Thanks KrrKs, have to admit I've gotten spoiled by Steam or other cloud options that remember these kind of things, :).

I have a new computer, so all new installs, but worse, I had every achievement for the 360, and now I have none. Starting over. And none of the bonuses that come with the achievements, makes it worse. And driving the buggy with a keyboard and mouse makes me want to tear my hear out (it was pretty easy with a controller).

I will make a copy of those user files though, thanks for the tip.
