So sad, I thought Seb was great.

Me, too. I love him

Sebastian and Carver were my all time favourites. :P

In my opinion, the most awful companions were Ariane, Tallis and Velanna, the first being the worst. I don't think a fictional character has ever made me as irritated.

What is the issue with Ariane? I barely remember her. All I recall was that she was looking for her people's book. Otherwise she was unmemorable. I don't remember her being a grouch like Velanna.

Ariane was only confrontational in the beginning, and that quickly evaporated once she became a follower. After that, she had nothing but rather cheery dialogue with Finn. I can't imagine why she'd even register on anyone's radar.

Now that I think of it I can't quite put my finger on it. Maybe there was something with how she was introduced or just the banter.

I found her banter with the dog while you were at the Circle pretty annoying for some reason. I kind of feel bad for not liking her, but I can't help it. All her lines there sounded like the writers were trying too hard.

*plays an elf character in the dlc.

*Finn tells me the relics are effected by elven descendants.

*Relics  only react to Ariane but ignores me.(i was a city elf.)

It didn't react to the blood of a Dalish Warden, either. I think the official explanation was that the Joining forever changes a person's blood, and for the purposes of ancient elven artifacts, it counts as a contaminant.

But we know the real reason: it gave Arianne something to do.

I think my worst team would have to be:

My female elf Inquisitor because she was so totally besotted with Solas, hung on his every word and was wrecked when he abandoned her.

Oghran - he was so stereotypically a drunk vulgar dwarf and I was so disappointed when he was the only character to carry over to Awakening

Tallis - after the first run through I left her every time and the walk through the woods chatting with my real friends was so much more enjoyable.

Velanna - I have to agree that I really didn't like her and dropped her from the party as soon as I could.

If Sebastian really came out as the most disliked character then I think the poll was rigged.   He was a hell of a lot more pleasant to Merrill than either  Fenris or Anders, didn't shove his views down people's throats nearly as much as Anders did, was prepared to have a reasonable discussion of his beliefs and his anger if Hawke spares Anders is understandable since as he pointed out he could very well have been in the Chantry too and personally knew many of the people who lost their lives, including his surrogate mother, Elthina.   He was also the only one who asked why they were discussing annulling the Circle when the real culprit was sitting right there having confessed to the crime.    I agree, though, that they really should have given him the option to shoot Anders himself.

But when he didn't get to see the bad guy killed (and let's be honest, that abomination was objectively wrong) He wanted to declare war against and conquer the city where that freak lived, simply because he MIGHT still have associates there , Really ? That's his justification for war that will doubtlessly lead to thousands of deaths on both sides.

I didn't hate Sebastian in DA 2, he was mildly annoying and extremely useless, seriously why would you want that preachy choirboy, when you can have Varric in your party?

But that one war table mission of little importance (just like the rest of them) managed to make me despise that hypocrite more than the entirety of DA 2

Thing is, a character being benevolent and such doesn't necessarily determine whether or not the fans really like them. In Sebastian's case, he's generally a humorless, somewhat preachy stick in the mud that's also an inferior archer to Varric. Being boring can be just as bad if not worse than being annoying, because it makes it hard to really care about much of what he has to say.

I would bet that Jacob is generally in the same boat as Sebastian, and he adds more to ME2 than Seb does to Dragon Age.

I've never used Sebastian...not ever.  Annoying d-bag.  He is, in fact, the only companion I've never used - although Sera comes in a close second.

Well written does not equal to Well loved . By the way, how would you define a character as well written?

Velanna's a tough nut to crack, but her saving grace is that her banter with Nathaniel was actually entertaining, especially since Nathaniel's dry wit was impenetrable to her ire.

The same way I define a good game.

No that is not really an answer, but that is also the point, there really is no concrete definition, just how it comes off on people.

Fenris, a character I like as well, is actually poorly written compared to most of the cast of Dragon Age II, for example. Most of his stuff comes off as schmaltzy harlequin romance BS, but we love him anyway because we feel bad and care for his plight. And I have to admit, a rival romance with Fenris and male Hawke is still one of the better romances in Dragon Age II. Especially if it was a mage Hawke, it just made things extra special.

Sebastian had weight to him, brash and pigheaded, yet tried to be reserved and tactful if he can. He had trouble controlling his emotions over his judgement and it reflected in his faith and his dilemma between it and his family legacy. I really liked how he tried to be good without being too preachy, but never hid the fact that the Chantry was important to him and his person.

I don't know, I enjoyed seeing the dichotomy between his actions and his  words, how he tried to do one thing but struggled to do it correctly. I guess people didn't like that in the end. Or they are bitter that he was DLC and not as interesting as Shale.

Well let's be honest, no one's as interesting as Shale.

I didn't like his sense of entitlement. 'If you don't kill this man, I will come back and destroy the entire City'. Him wanting to kill a mass murderer who also killed his surrogate Mother is understandable, and in that setting, acceptable. But fighting an unnecessary war in midst of absolute chaos to fulfil petty revenge fantasies is beyond ridiculous.

I do not exaggerate when I say, I didn't mind Sebastian much, but after what he did (could possibly do) makes me loathe him over 9000 times.

He could very well be 'well written', but that doesn't mean you have to like the character.

nothing is rigged. just because you dislike Anders / Merrill / Velanna more than Seb, doesn't mean the majority thinks the same. A lot of hate were given to Seb when DA2 came out and after 3 yrs, people still hate him.

Yeah Sebastian lost it in DA:I. I mean trying to besiege and invade an entire city for one man and his associates is crazy. Also, I figure Kirkwall had been through enough over the past 7 years with the Qunari attack and mage uprising.

This.

My original beef with Seb was that he filled the same role as Varric, he was just worse at it and nowhere near as cool. Then the war table mission happened.

Should temporary companions that only exist for one mission really count? I feel like if she were to make the list, Jory and Daveth would have to make it there as well, despite being red shirts.
