I seem to prefer the ones that earn the most scorn from others; not that I actually dislike the other characters in competition with them or anything.

Oghren was a cranky, drunk dwarf. What's not to like about him? Sera is extremely unique in her view of the world, and for me that came as a breath of fresh air. Despite her reasons for going the blood mage route, Merrill was a very sweet natured character. Her momentary breakdown folowing Marethari's sacrifice was heartbreaking and sincere. She fully expected to have gone this route herself, if it had to come to pass. Merrill was one of the best realizations of individual naiveté that I've experienced within the franchise, and I've always been surprised at how many folks didn't like her.

Fenris, Isabela, Wynne.

I don't actively dislike any of those characters, I just happen to like all of the other options better.

Warrior

  1. Alistair - Your average buddy, otherwise a somewhat bumbling goody-two-shoes.
  2. Oghren - Hilarious.
  3. Fenris - Just no. The hair, the attitude, the angst, the double standards about magic.
  4. Cassandra - She reads Varric's books. That was the most adorable scene in DA:I... Also, she's cool generally.

Rogue

  1. Leilana - Leliana's character is nicer compared to the others, but also rather forgettable.
  2. Isabela - She's... okay.
  3. Sera - I don't really *hate* Sera, but I do like her less than the others.

Conclusion: I don't really *hate* any of them.

Mage

  1. Wynne - Sometimes annoying but not overly so, A regular chantry lapdog mostly.
  2. Merrill - A good example of Blood-Magic used for non-sinister purposes, too much drama impatience and stupidity.
  3. Solas - Interesting character mostly, kind of wish we knew more about his back story.

Conclusion: I don't really *hate* any of them.

Least Favorites;

Warrior: Iron Bull. Trying too hard to be funny, failing miserably.

Rogue: Varric. People seem to like him but I think he's just annoying. Too bad I don't find him saying "well, ****" hilarious unlike some people.

Mage: Vivienne. One of two most annoying characters from DAI along with Mother Giselle. They're both manipulative liars and they're both annoying.

Most Favorites;

Warrior: Alistair. Even though he's the sidekick of DAO, other warriors from other DA games are not even half as good as being Alistair's sidekick.

Rogue: Zevran. I loved how he first met the Warden while he's trying to assasinate him but ends up being true friends. Leliana is fine too. She's the original "s/he is not what s/he seems to be". Solas is just copying her lol.

Mage: Morrigan. Because Morrigan that's why. Also, the HoF's wife.

Ultimate Party results were like

Protagonist: The Warden

Warrior: Alistair

Rogue: Varric

Mage: Morrigan

Jackpot,if it wasn't for Varric but close enough. Although still have no idea why Varric was in UP despite Leliana having more votes. Still, close enough.

I feel like the Inquisitor potentially steals this from him entirely. I haven't kept count, but I could swear that s/he can say this more times in the game than he can lol.

Sorry, OP, but I'm just going to write down the ones I find the most annoying, and when you eventually get to them, my vote can count then:

Warrior: IB (just not very interesting)

Rogue: Sera (I want to nail her to the cross. Yes, she is THAT annoying to me.)

Mage: Vivienne, I guess? (Her AI doesn't make the most effective use of her KE tree, so she gets my vote just for being an ineffective AI companion. Don't really care otherwise though)

Warrior: Oghren

Rogue: Geez, this one is tough... I love all three. But I'll vote Leliana because I'm not fond of her hardened self.

Mage: Merril, easily.

Everyone buys her cute little girl act, but if you listen to her party banter with other characters you'll find out she can be cold and sarcastic in situations where it's just uncalled for.

Not so much a betrayal as a reckless mistake he's willing to repair.

Because then it would have been a party made up entirely of Origins characters, reinforcing once again why Origins remains the best game in the series by a mile.

Merrill is fairly arrogant. She is hardly unique in that...in fact considering it is a trait also shared by Vivienne and Morrigan it seems to be a common flaw with mages, but with Merrill it is insufferable because she pairs that arrogance with naivety and a scatterbrained demeanor.

Vivienne and Morrigan might also think they always know best, but at least their arrogant behavior rests on a bedrock of intelligence and competence.

Is that really surprising? DAI probably has the most unlikeable (even if they are interesting) companions of any DA game. I can easily say that none of the DAI characters apart from Cassandra interested me much at all; even Varric was somehow made bland, and he was my favourite in DA2. I never really felt like the companions in DAI were friends or allies, they felt like co-workers at best.

Yeah, imagine playing a Dwarf Inquisitor that looks just like Varric and talks like Varric lol. Even Andrastians would join Venatori to kill them with fire

Had to go for Oghren for the warrior, despite some residual fondness for the stereotypical drunken dwarf.

Sera was an easy pick i find her completely grating and the other 2 are my 2 most favourite dragon age companions

Mage was tough, went for Solas(despite the interesting epilogue reveal) as i never really felt a connection with his character, unlike the other 2.

Warrior: Oghren

I'm sorry Ogh but you're no match to Cassie and Ali and I get along better with a drunk introvert elf than a drunk extrovert dwarf.

Rogue: Y u do dis to meh :c this choice is cruel but alas: Isabela.

Hot and hilarious but unfortunately: Her bitchy-ness can sometimes feel so blatantly assholey, unlike Leli or Sera whose bitchiness can feel justified.

Mage: Merril, hands down.
Least favourite character of the entire franchise, the only one I pushed to rivalry, but even then I still "d'awwwwww" at her. I don't think Bioware will ever make me manage to wholeheartedly hate a character.

Y'all do realize the OP stated that this is just the first round? It's like March Madness, Set A of people goes up and gets voted on, then Set B of people goes up and gets voted on, then the losers from Set A and B go up together and get voted on and we have our loser-winner (obviously there will be more than two rounds, but that is the simple version.) Stop asking why random characters aren't in this round.

Warrior
Alistair
Oghren
Fenris (Hard choice, I really do like all of the warriors, but Naivey, Drunky, and FemBroody just slightly beat out BroodyMcBroodsteen.)
Cassandra

Rogue
Leilana (Due to a mistake, I didn't recruit her in Origins and because I was on a "live with your mistakes" play-through, I didn't reload a save to go get her. So she annoyed the living hell out of me in Inquisition.)
Isabela
Sera

Mage
Wynne
Merrill (I know someone like her in real life, and while she's my friend, I am pretty much am her babysitter. I don't play video games to deal with virtual responsibilities that I have in real life. I can't stand Merrill.)
Solas
