Help with specialization for 2 handed warrior

I just bought inquisition for console and I am just at the beginning of the story. Although I played previous versions of Dragon Age I need your help and feedback for specializations. Both previous versions I passed as a two handed warrior and I decided to continue this trend. Still I have read a lot of guides for dai before proceeding with the game but either way I would like confirmation.
Is that true that 2 handed warrior is a little meh... compared to other trees especially sword and shield ?
Now regarding specializations we have 3
Champion a tank build for generating guard, good against bosses and the best build for solo play because of the guard etc..
Templar build good for demons and against enemies that can be stunned. Bad for bosses and enemies resist to stun. Some people love to die with templar because of the buff
Reaver dps build but it seems that Dragon rage with ring seems only viable and actually kind of boring because you spam it all the time. Eventually you don't use sword at all just tear them with claw. Is there other good build with specialization with using 2 handed sword ?

I'm doing a 2H playthrough right now and I personally find it a lot of fun, and one of my favourites so far in terms of playstyle. I haven't tried out SnS so I can't make any viable comparisons there though.
I love Iron Bull but I'm not a fan of the Reaver spec so I don't take him on any of the major missions, sadly. He just dies too quickly because I've never gotten the hang of playing the Reaver spec, especially with its health-drain.
My warrior has the Templar spec and it's a huge help when closing rifts and fighting the demons, even if they're higher levels. If you use the Dispel ability while demons are spawning it can stop them from spawning completely, or weaken them to give you a leg up when you get to fight them. It's also very useful for removing barriers from enemies, particularly the Nightmare demon (first example I can think of--it's a difficult boss that loves to spam the barriers). It's not as useful against "normal" (nonmagical) enemies, that's true, but the passives are good buffs as well.

There have been some good discussions about 2H recently:

The skills in the 2H tree do tend to be a bit meh when compared to the SnS tree. SnS has a better block ability, better cooldown times, and comparable damage on a single target.
The main draws of a 2H warrior are 1) having a much higher weapon damage rating which make abilities like Wrath of Heaven, Spell Purge and Dragon Rage much more damaging and 2) the fact that most of your abilities as well as normal attacks (with a sword or axe) are able to hit multiple enemies. Mighty Blow is an AoE knockdown that does good damage and Whirlwind is fairly wide AoE Impact detonator.
In terms of specs, I prefer the Champion. Even though 2H warriors make the best pure DPS Templars and Reavers, those builds tend to focus a lot on the abilities of the spec for damage, whereas Champion just lets you do the regular thing you do with a 2H warrior but with enhanced survivability for a more balanced playstyle.

I always found the SnS tree a little boring. The 2H tree is just pure fun. I really don't want to get into a debate on it, but the only good thing about the SnS tree (to me) is the utility of payback strike allowing you to recover from any disabling effect. However, most of the time it seems to miss (for me) due to being out of range after being knocked down and back. Also the damage is pretty low. I do not agree it is on par with even single target.
I'll start in order of my preference.
2H Templar: My absolute favorite build so far. Amazing damage against everything. The trick is to drop blessed blades (do not used it at all). Wrath/purge is so much fun. Purge has great utility removing negative effects around you (like the electric rings dragons put on you). And I love every single ability in the 2H tree. Against minions I use wrath purge and against bosses I have mighty blow, pommel strike, earthshaking strike, whirlwind, etc etc. So much fun. And tons of damage.
2H Champion: A far better experience than a SnS Champion IMHO. It lets you do most of the things the 2H Templar can do with impunity. The only downside is that it feels a bit boring after a bit. It lacks the utility that spell purge offers, nor does it offer the group synergy of rally. It's fun and you can solo a lot of content if you're into that type of thing. I'm also not a fan of blackwall so you rarely have to take him, if ever, if you go 2H Champion.
2H Reaver: I really don't like reaver. I don't like the playstyle, trading out my health for damage. I also do not like the way you lost your weapon and replace it with glowing dragon arms. It loses the 2H vibe IMHO. I also don't like the total lack of utility/versatility in the reaver tree. Whereas the templar has an aoe stun, ability to cross class combo by itself, or remove disabling magical effects, and the champion can taunt a target to attack them instead of their allies, the reaver has nothing...just a flashier version of mighty blow with more damage and a health drain.
Bottom line is I love the 2H templar for the utility and great damage it does. It a team player and can be damage-centric. That's just F-U-N in my book.
