You are correct I made many assumptions in my post, but most of the time when someone wants to argue for the console over the PC they make their own assumptions. It really comes down the the individual. Consoles are better for some people while others will do better with a PC. The PC primarily worked for me because I had an existing system which needed only an upgrade to the GPU for someone starting from scratch the initial investment can be daunting.

Thing is, it really isn't either/or for everybody. The cost structures are different though, and the annual savings you mention for PC over Xbox (WiiU and PS3 have no subscription charge) take a while to add up significantly compared to the high initial outlay on a PC.

I have a medium-nice gaming keyboard and mouse/mat on this PC. Together they cost roughly the same as an X360 does....

I'm quite certain I can find a 10 year old PC that can run anything at the 360's quality.

And you'd be surprised what you can play on an older PC  if you're willing to turn the graphics way down.  Not that I recommend that but it's totally doable.

But as someone stated earlier situations will vary.

Will it run Halo? Zelda? Mario? Doubtful. ;)  Situations will indeed vary. You can get Trine 1&2 on Steam, or on console. Playing on the PC with a friend is possible, if inconvenient, but on console 3 friends can sit together on the sofa and laugh as everything goes wrong.

Nintendo, far more than Sony/MS, actually still "get" that aspect of console gaming - I've got Twisted Metal on the PS3, and Mushroom Wars, that are good for that... but that's about it.

Yeah, they do, but despite your correction I still believe that Trine is 3-player co-op across platforms. But games you would not necessarily think of also have good support for co-op on console. BL1 & 2 both do local split screen for example. Black Ops II on console can split the screen into 4 and have 4 local players doing the multiplayer, choosing different sides with or without bots. I know this is the case on Xbox360 and WiiU. Can keep 4 teen boys occupied for an entire afternoon :D

I just had this weird flashback to when I was a freshman in college and spent an entire evening debating Mac vs. PC over IRC.

(1) Good lord I'm old.

(2) I should probably stop taking LSD to avoid further flashbacks.

Point taken. I'll shut up now.

well i have played for 677 hours and 2179 games and nothing yet

Memory leaks are instantly (and temporarily) repaired when you turn your system off.  Play the game for a long time uninterrupted and it'll happen eventually.  We have an entire thread on what causes it and how to avoid it.

Another point for the PC gaming argument - knowing how these things actually work because most people prefer to build their PCs and need to understand the technology in order to do pick the right parts without spending unnecessary amounts of money on hardware they might not even need.

Heyas, been thinking of getting a console. I'm far too used to mouse/keyboard though, so the question is, do any of you use m/k for ME3MP?

If so which console, and more importantly, if any of you have played both PC and Console with m/k are there any distinct differences? My main worry is that even with m/k it won't (Edit, forgot to finish this) it won't react the same.

What's your experience in general with a m/k on a console? I've played plenty of console games are friend's places with controllers but not a one uses an adapter with m/k.

At this point I'll have to dump a significant amount into my PC but in the interim I've been seriously considering getting an xbone. Last time I owned a console was when I had an N64 and a Sega Genesis though.

The idea of starting a new manifest when I'm only 14 UR's from completion on my PC is a bit, uhm, depressing. Also might prove a fun challenge and add some longevity to it though.

/shrug

Dunno yet, still pricing things, but trying to get a good idea beforehand.

Cheers. :)

I am a PC user and cannot help with your question.

I am just wondering: Why are you contemplating to get a console and even start over again?

You even want to keep using a keyboard and mouse. So: Why?

I'll give you that platforms exclusives are pretty much the worst but the prices add up just as fast if you're wanting to play all of the above and thus need to buy multiple consoles.  Right now Bayonetta 1 and 2 are the only exclusives I'm particularly salty about.  Spectacle fighters are not super well represented on this platform.

As for couch coop it's not a thing I personally care about but that's an extreme YMMV situation.  Wouldn't mind a WII-U at some point when the price way drops though as they actually understand the importance of backwards compatibility.

Also Halo is bad and should feel bad.

my advice: stay on PC.

Unless you're picking up a console for console exclusives? Which, sometimes they aren't even worth it.

Well as far as the Playstation exclusives go, they've mostly been pretty epic like Uncharted, God of war, Last of us and now Bloodborne. Things aren't bad at all for xbox either with gears of war, Witcher and halo. So console does have some things going for it there.

I'm not challenging your advice in any way because I don't play on pc to begin with, but I would honestly say that the option of picking up a cheap PS3 and copies of The Last of Us and the Uncharted games would rank very high on my wishlist if I didn't already have them - they're really good, immersive games.  The Resistance, Killzone and Infamous games are all pretty good too and they cost next to nothing nowadays. If you have the time, there are much worse things you could be doing.

The Last of Us is prettier on PS4, in addition to having a very intriguing plot. Uncharted 1 and 2 were good. The third was rather lackluster.

Maybe Resistance and Killzone weren't my kind of games but I found them incredibly boring and difficult to play. inFamous is one of the best series that I've played though, so I won't argue with that.

Haha no they're not. You actively exploited a weakness in the game's coding to help overcome your own shortcomings as a player. I'm paraphrasing what you said about needing the Fitness points as you were low on Cyclonics, which is also known as a L2P issue. One or two glitched builds could come about accidentally, but not 23. No way, no how, not ever. A pc hacker does exactly the same thing - exploiting a weakness in the game's coding. You are changing the game from the way it was intended to be played, and are guilty of something which carried a ban for cheating when the game was being actively policed.

Now, as I've said previously, I don't give a **** if you want to play with glitched builds, but I will continue to call you out on it if you make morality judgements on what is acceptable behaviour when it comes to how other people enjoy the game, or when I see you talking rubbish "offering opinions" on whether other people are playing characters to their optimum, such as the Collector, who spent most of his time face down in the one game we played, despite those extra 21 points.

I don't use cyclonics so im not short on them, don't see how you have played with me unless you play on ps3. last few times i played collector I didn't die much and when i did i gelled so....also I didn't say its wrong to hack to get
the manifest i said it was different than using something that's already there. I wouldn't hack to get my manifest because i want to complete it despite the rng bs

Well everything's prettier on PS4. Also Killzone isn't exactly known for its story or Sp. The multiplayer is where all the fun's at!

I play both on PC and console and I prefer console myself but in the end, to each his own.

I JUST LIKE BEING ABLE TO ROTATE MY CAMERA WICKED FAST.

That's a lot to ask for on console.

Agreed on much of that - Uncharted 3 definitely lacked something overall, and a better ultimate boss battle in particular, but it sure looked pretty and played smoothly.  And that plane scene..... man, that was something else.  Of the others I mentioned, i agree that Infamous was by far the best, but I enjoyed the relatively local setting of the first Resistance game so that's what sucked me in - it has a couple of really cool weapons too.  Killzone 2 is the only one of that series I actually finished, but I did quite enjoy it.

I have no doubt I'll upgrade to The Last of Us on PS4 at some stage, but for the time being the PS3 version still deserves recognition for running so smoothly without any loading delays or 'tells' that something big is about to happen - it's completely seamless.  And I have to say I enjoyed its cinematic qualities more than any film I've seen in around 15 years.

I don't use cyclonics so im not short on them, don't see how you have played with me unless you play on ps3. last few times i played collector I didn't die much and when i did i gelled so....also I didn't say its wrong to hack to get

You previously claimed you needed the extra Fitness points because the rng didn't give you any Cyclonics.  Do try to keep up with your own BS.

You can continue repeating the same lie that they're hacking and you're not, but it doesn't change the fact that you had to put considerable effort into exploiting a weakness in the programming, in order to change the game so that a third of its characters are broken in your version.  But it's still not hacking.  And it doesn't in any way affect your right to criticise what other players get up to.  Ok. Fine. Got it.

What you actually said earlier in this thread was -

hacking to get a max manifest takes away from the accomplishment

That is quite clearly a value-based (mis-)judgement, and another example of you expressing an opinion on something of which you have no personal experience.  And regarding the Store explicitly, there is no 'accomplishment' in overcoming the hurdle of a random mechanic, whether by hacking or earning credits or spending what would have to amount to literally thousands of dollars. None.  It's random. No skill is required.

How could we have played?  How?!?  If you're on PS3? And I'm on......... ta-daaaaa.... PS3?  Inconceivable!!!  :o  :o  :o

We were on Glacier against Reapers a few weeks back.  You died. A lot. You gelled, yes, but I also revived you twice or maybe three times.  And did most of the objectives.  If you don't remember me, I can only imagine that finishing a distant third is such a regular occurrence that you couldn't possibly be expected to remember all the other players' names.  Even the ones you see but fail to notice on a regular basis........  :P

PS3: tiwyg23  N7HQ

Why not look me up? My manifest has nothing to hide.  Pity we can no longer say the same about yours!  Honestly, having a private manifest while making opinionated posts is, to use a word I've seen you throw around, more than just a little bit lame.
