Yeah, if Mankind Divided is going to *require* me to play a Jensen that picked the self-destruct ending, I'm not going to be one bit happy about it.

Honestly, the endings to DXHR are, IMO, just as big of an illogical, bass-ackwards mess as the endings to Mass Effect 3, if not more so. All three of the messages contain a lot of propaganda, and Sarif and Taggart were, IIRC, trying to frame each other for causing all the chaos. And if Jensen doesn't think any of them can be trusted with making such an enormous decision for humanity's future (a perfectly reasonable notion in and of itself), then why doesn't he just tell the truth about what happened to that A.I. journalist who's helping him? I mean, he's literally standing there talking to her at the end, and yet his only other option is to destroy the station and murder hundreds of people?

I ended up broadcasting Darrow's message simply because, while it was certainly biased, it did at least *contain* the truth. I didn't like it, but I suppose I could at least continue playing the character who picked it. Shifting to a new protagonist probably would have been a better choice if they're going to canonize an ending, though.

I went with Sarif because augs were the means to break mankind from Illuminati control (combined with the global communications blackout in the original game), no idea why Darrow´s ending resulted in the tech shutting off. Playing a nonlethal ending Jensen just sounds incredibly paranoid too, we would still be living in caves with that reasoning (I guess a more lethal playthrough resulted in a different ending monologue).

Whatever the ending, I think the Pangea project is gone, I don´t see Jensen keeping quiet about the hyron computer (which was also when I decided **** you Darrow for allowing that). BTW, I think one of the floating things in the trailer is a car exhaust tube.

Oh its certainly a narrative cheat. I kinda hate it lol. But I also love what it would imply as we go into the next game - that Adam can't just fight progress (which is what he more or less does in the first game, and it is a good thing of him to do so if progress manifested as Panchaea), but he can also be 'reborn' again (after the blast) to try to save others (which he did also achieve in the first game, and he can realize that part of his cybernetic capabilities, see that its not just a curse/tool).

Same character, some character evolution, struggling against greater powers, just a 'greater power' may include Eliza when it comes to the ending..

(How do I embed videos here? It isn't doing it automatically)

Always wreckage? I've only actually completed like 1/2 of the game so someone can correct me.

EDIT: I know I'm speaking in rather symbolic terms but that's how I think about this stuff. Helps me visualize where stories may go. Often it is correct, but of course I'm still, um, waiting to see if that even remotely works with Mass Effect 3 haha.

I got you.

Was anyone else kinda hoping for a new protagonist?

Not that Jensen's bad... but I never found him terribly interesting.

I assumed we would get a new protag for the next Deus Ex game not even considering the thought of continuing Jensen's story. Not because I wouldn't be up for it, but because I thought they would switch protagonists as they always have.

I'm up for more Jensen though.

I'll like him more when they get a chance to improve on him. He's interesting enough that I want to see an arc, they just need to expand his personality a bit and push the voice actor more. At any rate I'm not expecting a miracle with their story team. HR's writing was decent, nothing more. It was the atmosphere and gameplay that carried the game.

Yeah... after DE:HR's story devolving into a bad hentai movie towards the end, I kind of lost interest in the lore of the Deus Ex timeline.

The game was balanced so that a player didn't have to take a single augment, which then makes the game for those who do incredibly easy, breezy beautiful. The morality of the game between augments vs. natural or killing versus pacifist was so negligible as to have the player forget one way or the other mid-game. And the dialogue and hacking systems, while initially intriguing, either are seldom used in unique ways or become victim to the "I Win" button aspect of the augments.

Which would lead someone to say "Fast Jimmy, why not crank the difficulty up to the max and play without any augments if you're so smug?"

Twofold . One, the pigeon-holed boss fights make non-aug and/or non-combat builds next to worthless, where the player must do the "Reload Screen game" twenty times to get just the right combination of things to survive. And two, the game didn't really suck me back in during my second playthrough, especially not enough to suffer through unnecessarily difficult gameplay.

There should be benefits to being non-aug if that's being proposed as a serious choice (without any real benefit or improvement to the story outcomes). Something like Shadowrun's loss of Essence when you use cybernetics, where taking every enhancement has a cost to other aspects of your build. Or at the least the means to develop your character outside of technological enhancements, like a standard leveling system for XP earned for non-aug tasks or something.

Anyway, not super excited about this either way. Was a huge fan of the original DE but I've not seen much new brought to the table that wasn't done better by Splinter Cell about ten years ago. Hoping maybe this will surprise me, but I'll likely not pick it up outside of a Steam sale.

Fast Jimmy is well versed in the world of hentai. Noted.

Has it ever been stated that the game was balanced for not using augments, because I find that hard to believe. As for the natural playthrough route I don't think that was supposed to be anything more than an additional challenge, since Jensen was already augmented from the beginning whether you wanted it or not.

I'm playing the first Deus Ex and so far it hasn't really left a good impression. The guards have a poor sense of hearing and peripheral vision and the combat looks like it will take some getting used to. I also kind of wish that they gave you a base melee weapon at the start of the game. On the other hand, the cyberpunk agent thing is pretty cool and it looks like a game where I'll need to use some basic problem solving skills and reading comprehension.

Is there a special mod or something?

It definitely gets better with time. As for making you feel like a secret agent, it really doesn't get better than Deus Ex.

On the other hand too, while I loved the game, it's a product of its time. I find Human Revolution to be a much more engaging setting, to a huge extent because of the graphics overhaul.

That's good to hear. I think I can overlook the age just like I did with Morrowind and Daggerfall.

I look back at the little inconveniences in those games with nostalgia for some reason.

The villains of Human Revolution were generally all terrible. No proper good ones like good ol' Bob Page.

What I really want is to be able to alter the appearance of the protagonist. Why can't Jensen be male or female? Black, white, asian or latino ? More companies should treat the image of the game character on the Box Art as nothing more than a placeholder. I think it would have been cool in Deus Ex: Human Revolutuion, if Jensen could have been a badass female Head Of Security.

Well, Cyberpunk 2077 seems to be presenting itself with a customizable protagonist which is exciting news to me especially since I also prefer to customize my protagonist in an RPG. As I've mentioned previously, Human Revolution only got 1 playthrough out of me and then I wasn't interested any longer. It wasn't anything special in particular and I definitely wasn't a fan of their Thief reboot either, so I'm more or less just waiting and watching... see how this one is gonna turn out.

All I know, is that it can't possibly reach the level of bad as Invisible War.
