Possible to "miss" party dialogue?

Hey guys,

I'm wondering if it is possible to miss certain dialogues with your party members if you don't talk to them right on after every main mission. Or can I wait and have the dialogues "queued"? Also I would like to know how new dialogue is triggered!

Sorry for my English!

Dialogue is triggered after missions. Each NPC generally has a set number of dialogues they go through. The dialogue path is longer if you pursue a romance with the NPC. If you meet an NPC somewhere besides the Normandy, for instance Miranda or Jacob on Lazarus Station, then go through all their investigate options since you will not see them again. For NPCs on the Normandy, you can hit the investigate options at any time. Generally, you want to talk to your NPCs at least twice before Horizon. After Horizon, once you have their loyalty mission they will not speak to you until it is completed. After it is completed they will have at least one more dialogue. Be sure to talk to everyone after the suicide mission.

Unlike ME3, NPC dialogue does not change based on whether they came on a mission or not. In ME3, NPC dialogue changes based one whether they were on the mission and how the mission turned out. Also, in ME3, keep clicking on NPCs for more dialogue until they tell you something like "not right now."

Are there dialogue lines that get locked away if a certain squadmate was not taken to the mission? I heard that you have to take Ash/Kaidan to Tuchanka: Bomb to have their conversation with Tali, is that true?

Ok thank you very much! Is new dialogue also triggered after side quests or only after the main quests?

I still would like to know if you can "miss" dialogue. For example if you finish a part of main quest and start with the next one asap. Will you trigger the old and new dialogue peu à peu or is the old one "overwritten" by the next dialogue?

Any time you get a mission complete screen the next dialogue in an NPC's sequence will become available. So side missions as well as main missions will trigger the next dialogue.

You could potentially miss dialogue if you don't talk to NPCs by a certain point. For instance, Miranda has two dialogues after you board the Normandy. (To get the second one you will need to run a mission.) Right after Horizon, however, she will want to talk about her Loyalty Mission. If you did not talk to her before then, then her dialogue about her Loyalty Mission will change slightly and you will never get to hear what those first two dialogues were.

Added: to get the complete set of Legion's dialogues it would be best to save a bunch of side missions for the end of the game. Since you pick up Legion so late, the only way to hear everything he has to say is to pick him up early and lose the crew, or save side missions for after the end of the game.

So when I haven't done someone's loyalty mission and keep doing other quests, will I miss dialogue because they're "stuck" with the quest related dialogue until I end their loyalty mission?

Edit: I've experienced that new dialogue isn't unlocked sometimes even after main quests. I'm curious how the dialogues are exactly triggered, back in Dragon Age it's quite simple.

Once you have picked up their loyalty quest they will not speak to you again until you have completed that quest. If you try to speak to them before completing their loyalty mission they will simply remind you about it and that is all you will get. After their loyalty mission is over they will have a new dialogue sequence. For some of them they may have several sequences, for others they may just have one. For instance, if you are not romancing Garrus, then he will have one dialogue after his loyalty mission, and after that he will be "calibrating" for the rest of the game. I believe Legion has three dialogues after the loyalty dispute between him and Tali is resolved. Mordin has 1) post-loyalty mission dialogue, 2) Scientist Salarian dialogue, 3) sex advise, 4) a message from his nephew. As I said, it varies by NPC and by whether you are romancing them.

Also, I found that after each mission, the first thing I would do was to go and talk to Joker first -- you will miss unique dialogue opportunities with him otherwise in ME2 (and with him and EDI both in ME3) as many times he'll have something unique to say about each mission or new crewmate you bring aboard.

At this point, I just always start with Joker after returning from a mission, then circle through the ship. There are some surprisingly in-depth conversations available with characters like Samara, Garrus, Thane, and even Kelly even if you don't romance them.

I also loved catching whatever latest thing Gabby and Ken were bickering about too.

And there's also so much fun additional dialogue potential when you mix up squadmates on missions, too.
