I loved seeing the summer bazaar and the handful of little places throughout the city but I still feel like I didn't quite get my fill of the orlesian capital city. I understand why after DA2 they'd want to tone down the amount of urban environments for the next game but I'd still love to see more of Val Royeaux. Anyone else out there feeling this way?
Would you like to see more of Val Royeaux?

Yes, but only in the context of an active urban environment we can interact with. Not just a mission arena in other words. Give us a whole new section of the city with an inn and a neighborhood and pubs etc. Maybe a weekend stopover crisis type thing that really encourages engaging with the citizenry and the new locale. Hopefully we'd also see the capital chantry, however it's called, and other things that've been mentioned.
Maybe next game though.

Yes, during DA:O people talked about how big and fascinating Val Royeaux was. In DA:I, it was a let down seeing so little of the city.

I'd rather that than the one tiny map with static NPCs that don't do anything and feel lifeless.
It's like they overreacted from Kirkwall. I'd of liked to have had a few districts of the city open with some quests to run around and do. As it is, there's hardly any civilization in the game at all.

moving
This is the key. Something struck me as odd during the ball, and it was the fact that despite the occasional NPC walking from one side of the room to the next, everybody stayed where they were. Chuck some glitch-filled, Assassin's Creed-style hustle and bustle in there, and I would be very happy to see a large Val Royeux.
Val Royeux's theme was one of my favourites.

Yes, only if we have a lot of people around, and content. Not a empty city, with just 1 or 2 npcs that we can speak with...

If it's a proper big city enviroment i would like to see that, but after seeing some Dwarven areas in DAI i would love to see Deep Roads area, so many forgotten stuff down there.

I would have at least liked to see the Grand Cathedral, really one of the most impressive places in game going by we got to see of it in dawn of the seeker but you never get to see even a glancing look at it in game.

I would like to see it in an urban state, really much. And the imperial palace, and the grand cathedral, we could visit the imperial palace by getting into a celbertion or a ball that the orlisean ruler you decided to be is throwing, and we could get to the grand cathedral to see the new divine's coronation as said before.

Come on really? They could not even be botherd to make a dress for the female inquisitor at the first ball. You think they would design a whole new location?

I'd like a city space the size of Crestwood with an active living populace moving about.
I imagine it as the backdrop to a Divine Coronation DLC.
Pretty much this. This could make for an great Citadel esque DLC. An massive hub with fun and humurous side quests, with the main questline having some mysterious group trying to murder the Divine during the festivities of her coronation. Maybe Varric and Leliana would invite some of the old time companions for the celebrations.

The current implementation looks like the typical central MMorpg city, where the crowd comes together, e.g. Orgrimmar in WoW. The entrance, followed by a central place (to go afk or to present the own char) with some basic shops, followed by some passages and extra floors, which lead to some more and special shops.
With the rest of the areas in the game I could bet it was planned as such a thing and not an overreaction..

I would like to see Val Royeaux as the major metropolis it's supposed to be. An Athkatla or Baldur's Gate.
Heck even a Beregost or Nashkel

or how about bioware not repeat the citadel concept because otherwise it loses its originality
citadel was so good because it was just disgustingly cheesy, fun, unique and fanservice-y to make up for the ending of the third game, and it made sense since it was basically our final goodbye to the characters of a trilogy. replicating it in dragon age would honestly just feel cheap and a lot less genuine; citadel felt like a "made by gamers for gamers" DLC which basically stuck in every fan request, no matter how stupid in to an official piece of downloadable content, but to repeat it would make it feel like just another avenue to make money with.
sorry for the rant

Yes! ![]()
I've been advocating that my ideal expansion would kick off with the coronation of Divine Victoria in Val Royeaux, opening up the rest of Val Royeaux to the player with it. Sadly I'm getting increasingly convinced Inquisition will not the proper expansion it needs, alas, hopefully we get a meaty DLC that gives us the rest of the city. ![]()
It'd be a shame if they choose not to explore the rest of the city before they move on to the next game which is most likely going to be set in northern Thedas ![]()

Also creates opportunity for more variety in the environment. Is Val Royeaux a port city? I can't remember... But if it is, seeing the docks could be interesting.

Eh, maybe.
I would almost rather that Redcliffe be made larger. I can see houses and whatever else in the distance, and I really want to get to them. ![]()

I was surprised we didn't see more of the city really, particularly the Grand Cathedral since that is where I expected the clerics to be hanging out. However, I suppose making it grand enough would take too much resources, plus everyone probably has their own idea how it should look.
What really disappointed me was how little companions chatted whilst there, considering much of the time all you are doing is walking around. I found that one of the benefits of Kirkwall; if I wanted to experience certain companions chatting, I'd just go for a walkabout in hightown or the lowtown bazaar. That meant even if I didn't take them with me on a regular basis I still heard banter, some of which was significant to the plot, like Sebastian telling Aveline that Meredith had stopped listening to Elthina, and some of which was just enjoyable. The number of times I went back to Val Royeaux hoping it would trigger a conversation between companions but it never did.

Yes. Val Rayeaux basically being this tiny hub area was extremely disappointing. If they could have a place like Skyhold or Haven that had a lot of people and shops, then why couldn't they do the same with Val Rayeaux?

Perhaps because they spent so much time working on Haven and Skyhold. That's why I think the city might be best suited to a DLC focused on it.Yes. Yes.
I was a little bit disappointed that nearly all the open world maps were wilderness maps, with Val Royeux just getting a small market. I'd rather have cut one or two of those wilderness maps from the game and chopped the Hinterlands in half, and instead used the time and resources spent on those areas to expand Val Royeaux and give it some interesting content.
So I hope at least one of the DLCs will be in large part set there, and open up new neighborhoods for the city.

Sadly, what Bioware doesn't do well is cities. So no not waiting for that unless they improve dramatically.
