Sorry, but the size of both cities and open areas of DA are ridiculous in comparison to that of the ones in Final Fantasy.
Just try to explore the entire world map of FF XII in just one month, including visiting all the cities...you can't.

Yes - Cities are good. Make worlds feel alive. Not a fan of having a game comprising mostly of wilderness. Especially for something like DA:I where your actions have profound effects on society.
As if the lack of quest cutscenes didn't hinder this enough, it certainly did not help to have the IQ only interact with like .0000000001% of the civilian population

no, no, no, no, no....please no. I hate the Orlesians I hate Val Royeaux, and I hate big cities in games - too much to explore, too easy to get lost... too much overstimulation.

I would like to see it in an urban state, really much. And the imperial palace, and the grand cathedral, we could visit the imperial palace by getting into a celbertion or a ball that the orlisean ruler you decided to be is throwing, and we could get to the grand cathedral to see the new divine's coronation as said before.
Now there is a great idea, although after the Winter Palace I feel like I could let the Imperial Palace go, but it would be amazing to see the Grand Cathedral and get ou to see more of Val Royeaux

Ooh, after game-over expansion where another blood mage attempts to kill the Divine. Again. I call it Dragon Age: The Disgusted Noisening. Takes place at the Grand Cathedral of Orlais

I would like to see Val Royeaux. Whatever we saw in DAI doesn't even look like a city. It looks like a getaway resort.
Yeah, basically a really pretty outdoor shopping mall. >< It was still interesting, I thought, but I was hoping to see a lot more.

It was a plaza in a wealthy city, next to an artificial lake, the shopping mall feel sorta fit, but it only felt like the barest sliver of a city.Yeah, basically a really pretty outdoor shopping mall. >< It was still interesting, I thought, but I was hoping to see a lot more.

Val Royeaux is so last year. Minrathous is all the rage now - you know, world to save, slaves to free, magisters to overthrown, qunari to hug.
This would actually be a really great DLC. I already cleared a dozen or so rural/forest areas so why not give me a sprawling city to explore and quest in? A city the size of the Hinterlands or the Hissing Wastes would be a lot of fun to play in.

Yes and after Kirkwall, I though they would improve the cities. I mean it is even worse than DA 2 and no way on the same level as DA:O. I would trade an open map for more of Val Royeaux.

It was big, beautiful but soulless. I lacked the active life feeling I got when in Denerim. Maybe it's intentional, since those nobles do nothing and want for nothing, but I feel it could have been more. I also read that the White Spire can be seen anywhere in Val Royeaux, but I couldn't see it no matter how high up I was, and I think what I liked most about Denerim, that Val Royeaux could have had, was side quests, but this whole game is one big side quest, so I guess it would have been overkill.

Val Royeaux was an utter disappointment compared to Denerim, the city just felt so empty and lifeless.

Prior to release I thought it was a palace, given the symmetry, opulence and lack of visible life in the promo screenshots.
But the shopping mall feel fits, sort of. Not in a way that fits medieval-ish / renaissance-ish cities (which could have some really large, roofed market halls and bazaars, but different in layout or with relatively narrow passages), but a bit like those big Victorian - Edwardian era malls of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Here's one, the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan:

Of course, malls, bazaars etc. need lots of people walking around and at least the illusion of a larger city surrounding it to be at least somewhat convincing. What was there, looked and felt like the entrance area of a second-rate Disney-imitating themepark close to closing hours and during the off-season.
To be honest, I had the distinct feeling Val Royeaux may have been some leftover piece of an earlier project. It felt very...pre-Frostbite BioWare...
Maybe it gets better in an expansion, who knows, but I think they will have to drastically step up their efforts, not just add more of the sterile, static same.

If a DLC or expansion opens up more areas of Val Royeux, I hope it includes one of the seedier districts. It is a major city, so it can't all be nobles and rich merchants. A slum map could go along way towards fleshing out the city's atmosphere, and could provide plenty of opportunity for interesting characters or stories populating it.

Strange but I had the same feeling. Val Royeaux feels like Kirkwall sometimes.
Not that it's a bad thing, of course.

There is a possiblity we'll see Minrathous but in the next game, I suppouse. And thats what? 2-3 year deveploment? I want to see Val Royaux more of it anyway, before we leave southern Thedas. Wow it sounds like we are on a trip!

Wrong, I go there and enjoy all the highschool snobs- err Orlisean nobles, talk about the Inquisition and the chantry. In Denerim there were gossips, and I liked it as well. But Val Royaux is not SO lifeless.

I strongly believe that's our next stop in the world of Thedas. In DAO and DA2 Orlais was focused on but never seen, and DAI concludes that chapter of Southern Thedas (including peace between Orlais and Fereldan), where DA was first introduced to us, but in DAI all you hear about is Tevinter, so it's pretty obvious where DA4 is taking us. Corypheus being a Magister sealed the deal for me, and everything Dorian said about it too.

I belive we will be in the Anderfels as well, considering the mystery that have been there since DAO:A

I think that place would be fascinating to visit after the epilogue hints at interesting events occurring! We got a small taste of Weisshaupt in the Fade in DAO, but nothing else. Antiva would be nice to see too, and Nevarra. I want to see Par Vollen especially. Qunari are still a mystery and it seems implied that one day they might attack.

Hmmm...red-painted walls, bridges, canals...reminds me of some place, but can't put my finger on it. Probably from some obscure game published by some minor European publisher, I guess...
Nah, prolly not... ![]()
