Apparently you can only "Kickout" people.

This seems to be how:

Cassandra -Keep-

Solas -keep-

Verric -keep-

Vivianne= When meeting her say you don't need her. Once recruited cannot be kicked.

Sera= When meeting her say you don't need her. If recruited there is a option in the social tree marked with an X saying "You don't fit the inquisition".

Iron Bull= When meeting say that you do not want to purchase his help. Once recruited it seems like your stuck with him.

Cole= Initially you're stuck with him until Skyhold. When you first reach Skyhold there should be a option during your first conversation with him in Skyhold where you can tell him to "leave".

Dorian= After mage storyline you can tell him to leave. After Templar storyline you can choose to recruit him or never talk to him/ make him leave.

Blackwall= When talking to him tell him you don't need a warden.

I do agree it's kind of a bummer you cannot kill off party members because in one playthrough I have killed off Wynne. In DAI you cannot kill off people except your warden NPC member (Stroud, Alistar, Logain) or Hawke in HERE LIES THE ABYSS.

DAO was a bit too liberal with its use of choice. For example there's the choice to kill the injured soldier at Ostagar. There's really no reason to do something like that, but you can do it, basically just cause its fun. I understand that it's a game and it should provide the maximum amount of fun, but it is difficult to deal with choices that kill off characters, especially when there really is no story sense behind it.

The majority of evil choices in games are like that, when it comes right down to it.

I think blackwall is the only one you can kill. You either let him get executed or maybe you can execute him yourself?

Hey he is honest about being a spy. It's not like he doesn't tell you he is a spy.  You agreed to it going in!

Sadly, you're not given the option to change your mind and get rid of him.

On topic: You can't kill any of your companions, you can leave Blackwall to be executed but that's it. You can't kill him yourself.

Recently found out that Cole was going to be binded to Corypheus and fight you at the end of the game if you didn't choose to make him more spirit/human, so I'm guessing you would have had to kill him. It got cut.

Will leave if crowned Divine.

Better not to have the option than have it retconned/have a character who logically should show up in DA4 not show up because they could be dead.

She'll still be around Skyhold, and can be persuaded to rejoin your party. Just like Cassandra can.

Love them all too much to kill them. Cole is my exception. He looked cool on the promotional arts, but in-game he could be disappointing depending on your take of him.

Nay. Like 'em or not, just like Maven Black-Briar, they are essential.

You can't execute him. You can either leave him to rot in prison (if you do nothing), send him to the Wardens after Corypheus is dealt with, force him into a life of service to the Inquisition, or pardon him and allow him to rejoin the Inquisition as a free man.

Will leave if crowned Divine.

But then you have to do things for her benefit to get her to be Divine.  You can still be on her bad side when this happens though.  To be fair I think when this happened to me she probably only won by a point or two.
