They're in-engine, but that's not the same as them being hairstyles that could work with the variability built into the CC, or that the hair (when unstuck) could actually behave as it has to if it were properly rendered (the pony tail in the picture is a block attached to the character's body, but that's not how it would have to work as hair in a properly executed game).

The image thrown around isn't meant to show hair but rather races, and specifically the graphical fidelity of FB3 in portraying different races vs. the old DA:O/DA2 engines.

Edit: I'm not saying that the hair isn't ugly as sin in the version we got. I'm just saying that it's not so easy for Bioware to translate what they showed before even the first extension from EA to 2014 and what we have now.

Well, it seems strange to me to show off races like that, when they could use what's actually in-game instead (they had most characters done by that point). But yeah, I don't need the hairs in those pictures specifically, I just want more options.

I imagine they wouldn't want to spoil companions that early.

I would like it if the bard hair actually fit my inquisitor's head. I want to like it, but it looks strange with the receding hairline.

I am fine with the bun hair style, but the next hairstyle, that short ponytail with the long wisps of hair in front of the ears is really cute! I wish the bun had long wisps of hair like that ;_;

Now that I'm thinking about it, I miss Tallis' hair mod I had in DA 2. That was a lovely hair style, despite not being official, and became my favorite.

What if BE gives us even WORSE, or just as bad hairstyles? XD that'd be hilarious. I haven't seen anyone bring up this possibility. Is it even possible to make hairstyles worse than the ones we already have? What if BE causes a whole new round of bugs and glitches altogether? I'd love to see shiz hit the fan in May. Lol I'm such a sadist.

Didn't you say E3 2014? I'm pretty sure we had seen most of them by then, but I could be wrong. They could have used potential Inquisitor faces though, just like the pictures they ended up using. That way they could show off the CC as well.

I wasnt crazy about the hair choices in the first two games, but clearly they were way better than these. I honestly cant imagine what the heck the designers were thinking. As far as the clipping issue, I dont understand why Dragons Dogma had many long hairstyles (and bangs and decents facial hair BTW) and I didnt notice any bothersome clipping issues.

That picture came out really early in development. I think even before the leaked gameplay of Crestwood.

Alright... I know that current BW likes to wear their politics on their sleeves, but the crap hairstyles are not a political thing right?  We all know that people wear hairstyles of various lengths and looks regardless of masculinity and femininity right?...  And then there are actually those of us, quite a few of us actually, who are perfectly fine with the "established gender norms"

And these are all real life 'concerns" that really have no place in the game.  If you have political feelings against "established gender norms" and fancy yourself "progressive" or whatever - fine.  Its quite likely that the majority of current BW gamers are progressive politically on these forums.

But hair on a fictional character???

Please tell me this is political speculation, and not the actual reason why our hair choices are garbage.  If so... reducing choice involving our physical avatars... how "progressive".

Well as far as I'm aware BioWare hasn't offered gender politics as a reason for the hair choices being as they are. The pre-release Lady Inquisitor thread which is probably as close to a wretched hive of scum and feminism as this forum got was pretty keen on more feminine options not less, so if they are doing this for political reasons then it is seriously misguided.

I wish they could just steal the hair from Destiny.

Or Saint's Row.

Or Dragon's Dogma.

Or Skyrim.

Or just about any game out there that HAS HAIR, that has done it better than they have.

If anything, it's gotten worse over the course of this series.

Heck, even the Final Fantasy games did it better, including the ones that have been out for ten years.

I would love to see some medieval styled ponytail options, so my female avatar can look strong and feminine.

It's okay for an avatar to look deadly and beautiful.

Oops, I meant to comment on this earlier. :)

There were clipping issues, but it became a low priority, once you realized you could swoosh your hair around. Yeah, it actually moved! I loved DD hair.   It was also nice that there were enough armor/cape/etc. options, to just switch to another one, if the clipping bothered you. With DAI, there aren't enough options to do that.

Some clipping and hair examples...

Spoiler

Long hair and a ponytail!

I think the ugly gender neutral hair we got was more about Bioware cutting corners than any presumed agenda.

I understand your point and agree with it, but in my opinion, what we got was not at all "neutral". You can't have 3/4 of the hair automatically have male pattern baldness and sideburns no matter what and call it gender-neutral.

Why sideburns are not an option in - you know - the facial hair section is beyond me.

So yeah, I'm not sure the exact relationship but doesn't EA own Bioware? And EA makes The Sims, right? The Sims 3 CC is fantastic, and they have dozens upon dozens of great hairstyles I've never seen before in real life, and I replicated them on my own hair. So yeah, couldn't EA have had some people who worked on the Sims, offer their awesome hair design ideas to Bioware's people?

Yes, but seriously, for the next game, Bioware should consult The Sims' people.

Guess we can write a book on what Bioware shouldn't do next time...

So, looks like someone was doing some digging around in the game files and found some models that would seem to be fit for an appearance by Admiral Isabela. Don't get too excited, she's apparently to be an upcoming Multiplayer Character.

Here's the post I found:

http://burritorat.tu...ur-pls-my-heart

But look. LOOK. LOOK AT THE HAIR MODEL.

tumblr_inline_nmraemf7sr1r2nb11_250.png

That right there is actual, decent looking, good quality, hair.

There it is, right in the game files.

It would seem the concept of decent hair is not out of Bioware's reach after all.

I don't think this means anything more. Just looking to this as a pretty solid piece of evidence that Bioware actually has the capability to render new, good, hairstyles and add them into the game.

One would hope that if Multiplayer Isabela gets good hair, the players will get good hair at some point down the road.

I never considered that it was political, I just thought it was misguided and lazy.
