I would like to hear your story. I know someone who is completely isolated socially, they sacrifice sleep and eating, even neglecting their hygiene, family and kids in order to play as many hours as humanly possible on an MMO.
It's really fascinating to me how people live like this, I'm not trying to be rude at all and understand but its like I'm observing an animal at the zoo. When I tried asking this person if they are interested in anything else in the real world, their response is along the lines of "I don't care about any of that, I just want to play my game and be left alone", "there is nothing else to do", "everything else is pointless and boring".
This subject is very interesting and deep to me. Even personal in a lot of ways.

I was obsessed with playing WoW after I graduated high school and it got in the way of RL relationships and doing well in college. Video games were especially appealing to me because I was pretty depressed at the time so they were an escape and the whole leveling/raid/loot system helped me feel like I was accomplishing something when I really wasn't. Luckily I had a terrible experience with someone on WoW 6 years ago that made me quit and now that I have kids I only play games after they've gone to bed, though I still stay up too late a little too often
