Or is there some sort of mechanic behind it? If there's a way (besides master race modding) to make a certain unit more susceptible to being possessed, I'd like to know.. because head knowledge n stuff.
Do Collectors just get randomly possessed?

I think possessed abominations go possessed when you pretend to ignore them. As they get closer to your teammates' flank, they give you a chance to pull your missile launcher out before going possessed at the last minute.

At least we don't need to listen to harbingers voice 24/7 while fighting the collectors as we did in ME2.
But it would be so funny at first. ![]()

I liked Harbinger so much that I basically stole his shtick for my Dungeons & Dragons game.
The players really, really hate fighting the (yet to be revealed) bad guy when he possesses minions and insults them. ![]()
= = =
But back on topic, is there any limit to the number of Collectors who can be possessed at a time?
Is it theoretically possible for all 8 enemies to be possessed at once?! ![]()

there seems to be some trolling
like extra possessed a-bombs on extraction
but seems pretty random most of the time

I believe this would've added a more believable element to the game.

Don't get me wrong, the first time I heard it I also considered it to add on to the atmosphere of the game (it was pretty cool), but it was triggered far to frequently, and when you heard the same Harbinger line 500 times during the collector ship mission it became a bit to much, having it triggered a few times per collector match in MEMP would have been pretty cool though.

on platinum it seems to be kinda what TNS says, a bit random. On gold i have noe idea, cos it freezes my peastree, so i try to stay away from it. But if you leave a unit alive for a long time, it seems to go ubermode no matter what.
What i expect to see when attempting collector plat solos. (on the more memoreble waves)
w2- one of the crabs and atleast 2 scions
w5- crab and scion
w6- both crabs and a-bombs
w7-11 -everything

Most disappointing thing about the return of the Collectors, IMO.
All the Alliance voice-overs should have been replaced by Harbinger when playing Collectors.

I don't think it's random, I don't know the mechanics behind it but there just a consistent possession chance in later waves. Also there seems to be a cap on how many can be possessed at once as well. Hell I don't think a coded randomized game can be a true random anyways so there is probably some rhyme or reason behind it.

You misunderstand my intention.
Collectors are annoying. They need annoying background noise.

On gold possession happens on waves 1, 2, 5, 6, 8, and 11:Possession Interval Default: 20 secMax Possessed Default: 3
Hmm, I wonder if the one that has been on the field the longest takes priority? It seems at times that the enemy taking damage generally goes possessed. I wonder if there is any prioritization on possession?

That would be too much to ask, consider how large non-existent Harbingers role is in ME3 SP.
As for possessions, I think that that on later waves there are always at least 3-4 possessed Collectors per wave.

What? I for one miss that. Would of been way better if he still did, and a line for everytime you think your about to defeat a Praetorian. ![]()

Ah, boo, I was hoping you could get all 8 enemies possessed at once.

Looking at the code, there doesn't seem to be any priority coded into the possession mechanic. A unit simply checks to see if it's allowed to be possessed for that wave, if it's still alive, if the proper amount of time has passed since the last possesion and checks all other existing units to see if there is already the maximum number of possessed units active.
If it passes those checks, then it goes ahead with the possession.
That said, I wouldn't be surprised if the units which have been around the longest get first shot at possession if two are trying to check for possession at the same time. Just because the unit which is higher up in the array probably got to run its check very slightly before the newer one.

Probably explains why Praetorians and Scions will end up possessed usually eventually, just by nature of their health pools being so high. Do scourges count towards the possession limit?

It doesn't look like it. They have their own unique flag to signify that they're a scourge, so they aren't actually flagged as being a possessed unit.
