Surprise, surprise. Another video from Abraham_uk.

I find there is a lot of bashing in this video. A lack of understanding of what mental illness is.

What do you think? Is this video helpful?

I know this has been discussed to death, but this is a subject Onision keeps coming back to.

Oddly enough this isn't as one sided as people make out. Some people feel that his advice is helpful, others don't.

I'd like to hear from you. What do you think? I won't demonise you if you happen to agree with Onision's approach.

Onision has always been an intolerable moron.

I theorize he's actually an alien that doesn't fully understand human concepts like empathy and compassion. But trying to emulate it because he watched some TV and thought it was accurate.

Cutting is similar to anorexia, it's just something you can't stop doing without alot of emotional support and treatment.

Saying "Stop doing it though" isn't going to cut it, and it shows you have no understanding to how peoples minds work.

I didn't see the whole video. But from what I saw, I agree with him.

I have no sympathy whatsoever for people who cut themselves.

One thing I have learnt about cutters is that they aren't doing it for attention.

If anything they go through great lengths to hide it.

You've probably met loads of self harmers and would never know.

People do it as a coping mechanism. Very few people actually talk about it.

When they do, it's normally so that they can get help.

I'm sure there are a few who do it for attention too, but they don't represent the majority here.

I agree with him on a few points. When he made the point that if you make yourself weak, you make yourself vulnerable to being abused. That I agree with.

Thing is, that quite often with depression, there is quite literally an excess of chemicals in the brain that make someone feel that way. Their brain chemistry makes them lose control. Are we putting people who are in control but choose to hurt themselves and people who harm themselves because they're not in control in the same category?

Well the advice of "Don't hurt yourself" isn't helpful, because most of the people who cut themselves are aware that it's not a good thing to do.

If I recall right, one of the big reasons why people do it is because the brain releases certain painkillers when it realizes you have been injured, which makes the person feel better. There is some people who do it because they want attention and don't know how else to get it, but I think in general it's bad to dismiss everybody as doing it for attention.

You kind of have to figure out how to best deal with it based on the person who is doing it, as we're all different. If it becomes extremely bad for the person, the best thing you can probably do is convince them to get professional help.

All of the videos that I've seen from him on sensitive issues are like this.

I need to make that clear since there might actually be examples of him having helpful advice that I haven't seen yet.

I doubt it, but I'm open to that possibility.

He makes Invader Zim look like an expert in human compassion.

He wrote a book. He's an author now. So I guess he would actually appreciate the gift.

He'd probably do a whole video sincerely thanking you for it.

Is he your room-mate or something? Why are you so oddly defensive about Johnny F-bomb??

Naah. Just playing. [Playful fist tap, leans back and smiles in a tongue in cheek fashion with a relaxed back amused expression]  :P . Sorry this is the closest emotion that can represents how I feel about your remark.

Now if you excuse me I have some overly specific emotions to draw up and program into this computer.

Don't worry. I'm not defending anyone today. Besides I'd make a lousy defence attorney.

I've never been one to condone cutting tbh. It's reckless and can leave scarring.

But I wouldn't condemn anyone who does. You never know what people are dealing with and what they've endured. I suppose they'd rather feel physical pain than emotional/mental pain.

I have MDD so I often run into other people who are diagnosed with it or a version of it, and I know some that do cut. I talk to them when I'm in the waiting room, let them vent or chat about irrelevant crap to take their mind off their troubles. You'd be surprised at the habits people can ditch when they don't feel so desolate.

However, I really can't stand it when people self diagnose themselves and cut only for attention.

People like that only fuel misconceptions about self harm.

Onision is daft enough to believe that 100% of self harmers do it for attention.

Educate me yo. I'm a bit ignorant to this ****. What is the purpose of cutting? Just harming yourself or trying to send your soul where Allan at? I'm serious I don't really understand the reasoning. I'm curious because it is a common thing in the ubisoft QA department

Cut themselves, don't cut themselves, why do I care? I don't want to be paying their medical bills though.

Seems like just a lot of trying get people's attention and little else.
