I used to play on my 360 before buying a ps4, and I only keep my 360 purely for Dragon Age and Mass Effect. Seeing as how Mass Effect may get a remastered release, I wonder if the same could apply for Dragon Age. I concluded I would no longer need my 360 if Mass Effect trilogy is released for the ps4. But there is still Dragon Age...

Personally, unless additional story-based content is added (in addition to upgraded graphics for PS4 / Xbox One) I see little point in EA / Bioware releasing a re-mastered version of the Mass Effect trilogy or the 1st two DA games.

It wouldn't really be a 'remaster' due to the engines not only being completely different, but with how DAO's level structure would be odd to play in the new engine (small spaces, loading to get inside shops and houses, etc). It would have to be a complete remake, which would be great, but it has a really small chance of happening. Now, if DAI was moddable, then I could definitely see someone trying to make a DAO mod with the Frostbite engine.

Mass effect had a far more realistic look and feel to it so it being remastered makes more sense.

DAO does not need to be remastered. The graphics have aged but are still pretty decent considering the game is made by its story, dialogues and companions.

And as far as the combat is concerned, IMO it's still the best of the series so nothing needs changing there either.

I highly doubt there will be a port let alone a remaster.  Now EA might hire an outside studio to get it to work, but I don't think it is of a high priority because of the age of the games and I believe it really depends on how well the Mass Effect Trilogy sold when they released that.

Doesn't the enhanced version do that already?

I was actually quite surprised to find out from Mark Darrah in the Kotaku QA, that every level in DAO was built twice in the game - one version exclusively for the tactical camera.

He admitted to that having been incredibly wasteful and not very thought through, but it was the only thing they could come up with at the time. So I think that alone would make it a gargantuan effort.

Combined with the fact which most DAO purists love the most -it being arguably BioWare's last "niche" game- would never justify the effort, sales wise.

In four years for the ten year anniversary maybe. I'd pay $30 for DAO (maybe packaged with the DLC) with better graphics and 4k resolution.

Maybe if it was packaged with all of the games and DLCs, including armor and weapon packs; along the lines of the Borderlands Handsome Collection (which, sadly, was missing BL1).

Can you please link to the interview?

Also what exactly does he mean by 'each level was made twice'? Did they just make sure that the level design was suited to the tac cam as well as over the shoulder cam or did they actually do the visual design twice, from different view points?....because I can't really get my head around it.

I'd much rather get a remastered edition of KOTOR myself. Especially considering how horrifically buggy the PC version has become over time, at least in my experience. Remastered DA:O would be nice, but doesn't quite feel necessary. The original version still looks good and plays well, after all, I just don't see them making the effort when they have, what, three IPs right now to work on?

I'd get a remastered version of the DA games just for DA 2 and Awakening.

Sure!

It's somewhere down there, I think the guy even asked a similar question as the OP.

I guess what he meant was that the "original" levels weren't built to be seen from top down (say, ceilings) or through walls. That leads one to wonder whether the game may have even been built around the console version first.

I think that DA:O being remastered for the new consoles is highly unlikely to happen. The game would have to be rebuilt entirely from scratch! It's one of the reasons why my Xbox 360 wasn't sold after I upgraded. I simply packed mine away for when I needed to return to the original.

I wouldn't put it past them (being EA), however I would only get the "remaster" if the warden was properly voiced and not just in game play. The in game voice sucks and with noticeable repeated lines of dialogue. Seeing how that would be to expensive for them to do, then it's not worth it for just one game to "remaster."

Some already have mods to improve DAO and DAII experiences, better to put the efforts for DA4

I'd pay so much money to see DA:O in the new engine. I know it's not gonna happen, but still.

With the way other publishers are doing remasters it would probably be best not to as the market is really starting to get flooded with them which can put people off.

Rather they put the work into new games rather than just retread games that are barely 5 or so years old.

Maybe when the next gen systems but just not now.

It was built around Action mode first, which is platform-agnostic, with Tac cam added later.

I would love a remaster with frostbite, but as others have mentioned, very unlikely. In fact, I think either Mike or Mark specifically responded with a "very unlikely" to a Twitter question on that very topic.

BGEE isn't even really a remake, it's just BGTutu with extra stuff piled on top.

Didn't someone remake the entire damn thing in NWN2 like they did with IWD? I seem to recall this, but wrestling with NWN2's camera is not fun.

It would be lovely to see DAO and DA2 with the new graphics, but I'd want them to update some other things too. Like having more than four-ish armour types in DAO, and more than four-ish dungeons in DA2. And the characters, damn. Alistair, Morrigan, Leliana, Anora, Loghain, Stroud, Varric, Cassandra. All those old faces definitely look great for their trip to beautiful graphics land.

I imagine something like this wouldn't happen until they finish the DA series completely though. Then they could do all  the games if they still wanted to cash-in on the series. Trying to do it before then seems like it would take resources from future DA games.

On a side note, I'd love a remaster or remake of Jade Empire.
