How dare they put story first over player's desire
It's not like the story alteration would have been difficult.

They told better stories without trampling on players' desires in the past.
Madness, I know!
Shame they didn't allow us to be blood mage but i prefer don't touch them that at all if they can't do that properly.
Personally I think Varric made Hawke being a blood mage up so Hawke could seem more dangerous and suave.

Right a group of people and an organization originally meant to hunt blood mages would follow and support one, and in the past people wouldn't even ackowledge your specialization
...
Really?
Got the reference, did you? ![]()

I thought they were trying to bring order back to the world and stop Corypheus. What the original Inquisition did is more or less irrelevant in this context.
They could have made it work, but they chose not to.
Your specialization in this game is hardly brought up outside of a mention or two from some companions. It is not important nor worth the price of a ghetto blood magic in the form of necromancy.
I remain unimpressed.

I wish Hawke would have had a sarcastic line to the effect of, "Well, I know of one woman who finds you dangerous."
Alas, Sarcastic!Hawke is a bit of an overrated cliche. Aggressive Hawke is far superior. ![]()

So what? The pc is not part of the group anyway. He just got story-dragged into it. Bio´s preset idea that all players would somehow embrace this holy jebus 2.0 setting and not wanting rp something totally different is rather complacent.

Blood magic is more than just a special school of magic or training though, its a stigmat that is one of the greatest taboos in Andrastian nations, they cannot ignore it as they did in DA:O and DA2
Another problem with having a blood mage spec is that in the story Josephine is the one that finds your mage trainers. Josephine of all people isn't going to allow the Inquisitor to be trained by a blood mage.

It is also one of the fundamental schools of magic which have shaped the whole Thedas. Cutting it out just shows poor writing.

Maybe pc as a mage can find it on his own. Josephine is hardly a person to seek out magical advisors as a mundane anyway. Story writers write a different path for it, problem solved.

Problem solved: the trainer claims to Josephine to be teaching something else, but then tells the PC that they know blood magic.

no, it shows that BioWare finally realized that having it as an option and no-one caring was stupid

Well... That's just... Josie's not that stu...
Damn. Alright you win that one. ![]()
is it really worth rewriting half of the characters and the entire specialization material just to get a single specialization that has been handled very poorly in the past installments of the franchise?

Maybe if they would have not completely trashed everything from previous games and added tons of useless gigantic fetch quest maps they just might have had time to do it.
Then just do the same thing in Inquisition.
There's an extremely massive difference between keeping it secret from everyone even including YOUR ENTIRE PARTY, and just keeping it secret from people you need to keep it secret from. You think the party won't notice your wrist suddenly blasting blood out of itself while your have a blood aura? Uh... No...

yes because clearly the specializations we got are directly correlated with the fetch quests

Or they'll just add it in a setting that makes sense for it to show up
I'm personally glad to see new specializations show up
