The point is that there is no reason for anyone to not be killing anything. At all. Ever.

I did games the other night where I stopped killing things to make videos of roundhouse kicks and cartwheels. Sometimes on wave 11 I run in circles around my teammates (with the GPS equipped on a Krogan and a shot charged up, it looks like he's gleefully carrying a streamer about).

Point is, there are many fun reasons to not kill things. From a purely constructive point, because meh. Killing things is enjoyable but there's other games where it's more fun to kill things. This is my work-together-and-help-people game where I'll run from across the map to do revives.

Lol, what good is it going to do the rest of the lobby if I use a Katana.

Inspired by your suggestion, I just equipped the Katana and took it for a Gold game. I was second on the scoreboard, a little behind the TGI. Needs more trigger presses than a Wraith, is all.

Who say you have to take it that far?

My point is you should play for your personal enjoyment. Hell if you enjoy full murder mode all the time, play that way. Have fun at the game, don't feel like you should have to handicap yourself for your lobby's enjoyment. Sure don't be a dick but you can tone it down in game and still have the weapons to work stuff out if things get thick. You can carry a Harrier, Arc Pistol, Claymore, etc and not have to murder everything and still carry the team if things get thick. You don't have to handicap your DPS to not be a dick.

Nope.  Pugs can learn a lot in spectator mode.  I play plat pugs 100% of the time.  Most of the pugs aren't ready for plat, but like me, they're chasing the almighty credit$$$... so I can't blame them for trying.  Usually, one or two people in spectator mode will ask questions while you're finishing up, so it's not a complete loss.  The problem with "support" pugs is they are usually dead just as much as regular pug players.  Worthless.

If I die, I always assume the game is about to end... probably because I'm not choosy about lobbies.  That's the gamble in plat pugs.  If only one pug player is left, I get on the mic and recommend they just die.  It's ruining my credits per hour intake.  It's a product of the rng store model.  Unfortunate, but true.

I don't even offer tips anymore.  This game's almost dead.  I stopped reviving pugs too, unless they're close.

If a new player wants to help, he/she can go play a lower level and learn hands-on... or sit back and enjoy spectator mode while making mental notes.

What you say is true, and I'd prefer it if they would play a level commensurate with their skill level instead.  But if they refuse to do that, and they're going to be dead anyway, I'd prefer they at least be somewhat useful before they die.  A Volus Merc or a melee Jugg tank might actually do something to make my life easier.  A PUG who can't kill anything and can't help me either is no use whatsoever.

[...] After all, if you decide you play with your little son some ME3mp and he has no manifest and skill cause he just started, you're not going to go full dps and show off now, are you? No, you handicap yourself and make sure he's having a great time.

I play for fun - there is no need in gimping myself, since I rarely play Reegar AIUs. I'd show my son to properly headbutt. Would also do it if the son was a daughter - with more pleasure actually.

The last "son" actually put up some stiff resistance when I tried to forbid him to use Britney Spears wallpapers on his desktop. I think he also played Britney Spears music really quiet on purpose when I was around. And he was a fan of Tomb Raider and the Sims - I didn't really know how to handle that all.

I think you misunderstand. Of course I'll never reach pug status again outside of being more scrubby then normal after each return from an extended break. I'm saying if your epeen is so massive, you should be handicapping yourself to make it more fair for the new to game pugs, because epeen. How landing in a poor dps lobby and going full cheese is supposed to contribute toward epeen is beyond my understanding. As it just contributes to issues from my perspective. After all, if you decide you play with your little son some ME3mp and he has no manifest and skill cause he just started, you're not going to go full dps and show off now, are you? No, you handicap yourself and make sure he's having a great time.

Ummm....why? Those new pugs could just do as game design intended and play Bronze/Silver difficulties until they learn game mechanics and get appropriate equipment, instead of Gold/Plat and expecting me to babysit and dedicate my entire playing experience to making sure they're having "fun" in a difficulty they shouldn't be playing. If they put their lust for more credits ahead of my enjoyment, why should I be concerned with their enjoyment?

I don't go "full cheese" because I find it to be boringly trivializing of the game mechanics. That said, I have no sympathy for a relatively new player who drops into my Plat lobby with 2 or 3 other competent and well geared players and chooses to play a Fury with no equipment, a Krysae and a Spitfire. Similarly, in gold lobbies, I'm not going to intentionally miss shots or kill more slowly than I can with my Locust Marksman or Mantis/QFI simply because I might kill everything before the pugs.

When playing with players who just started, I play games with them in Silver, and then I'll handicap myself with an Avenger on a level 1 character or similar because silver isn't designed for 500+ hour players to grenade gear and nuke every wave into oblivion within 30 seconds, just as gold or Plat isn't for Mr/Mrs. N7 33 with 300 CP completing their Shuriken challenges.

I play for fun -

So do I and the pugs. And guess what. Pugs not having anything to kill because of excess epeen cheese on your end is not fun for them. What ever happened to saying like do onto other as you do onto yourself?

Just keep to one side on the battlefield and you are good.

This. I usually try to distance myself from Puggers unless things start going wrong for them.

But Grim68 can confirm this, as much as I try, by Wave 4 I can't help noticing that they start gravitating around me like a lost puppy

To the point of trying it keep it fun for them or limiting myself because they're not as good yet, I think that responsibly lies with them.

Back in the day Grim68 and I played Silver for months longer than necessary before jumping up to Gold because we didn't want to be leeches or bring the team down. I respected my teammates enough to want to pull my own weight. Sure we still failed from time to time, but they weren't compete embarrassments.

I know the game's been out a long time and maybe the MP has a countdown on it before they pull the plug, but that shouldn't give new players a free pass from building their competency.

With that said, I don't kick people out of lobbies and sometimes I will take the risk with newbies, but that doesn't mean I'll coddle them ;-)

I can appreciate that others are more sympathetic towards them though, that's actually kinda nice.

Yeah, I played Silver for way too long before finally moving to learn Gold. Something like at the 400 hour mark. Well into the point where I only needed URs.

But that's not the point. The point is these guys moving to Gold too soon make things more fun for us Veterans. Just takes one Veteran to make sure things go smoother in these poor pug lobbies. Plus playing with a weaker setups to better match the pugs, and now all of a sudden the game is more interesting. Stuff like enemy pressure pushing you back all of a sudden have meaning again too. Ditto for bosses being armour sponges again like they're supposed to be.

It's just like adjusting the difficulty level within one particular difficulty setting like Gold or Platinum. It's only normal to get the hang of all difficulty settings, with the final difficulty setting being handicapping yourself. Folks do it all the time, just check out YouTube and other gaming forums. Ever heard of the terms 1cc or no miss? These are folks creating extra challenges for themselves to keep continuing playing their fave game.
