Most of the other tier 4 weapon schematics are actually better than their tier 3 counterparts since even though you can't slot in grips/staff blades/etc. they have proportionally more materials required in their offense slots. Except for staves, where they have around the same requirements as the tier 3 does.

  • Hakkon's Wisdom Tier 4 Staff 3 offense slots 9 cloth 8 cloth 6 metal (125 base dps and 77 weapon damage with tier 4 metal in damage slot)

  • Masterwork Enchanter Staff Tier 3 Staff 3 offense slots 8 cloth 8 cloth 6 metal (115 base dps and 71 weapon damage with tier 4 metal in damage slot)

  • Masterwork Battlemage Staff Grip Tier 3 Staff Grip 2 offense slots 8 cloth 3 cloth

  • Masterwork Archon Staff Blade Tier 3 staff blade 2 offense slots 8 metal 3 cloth

So you get around a 8.5% increase in weapon damage/dps but lose out on 13 cloth worth of offense slots and 8 metal worth of offense slots. If you use the best +attack cloth you get 1.75%*13=22.75% more attack and +attack metal would get you another 8*1.75%=14% attack for a total for 36.75% attack more than the best tier 4 staff you could make. This thread (http://forum.bioware...-and-mechanics/) on how stats work suggests that the attack stat increases damage by auto-attacks and abilities by 1% for every 1% in attack, which means 36.75% more damage, which is a huge difference compared to the difference in base weapon damage of each staff.

With no Grip and no Blade/base this staff doesn't really rise to the top of the pack.  Perhaps that was as intended, but I didn't even bother to make one that I kept.  By spiking the crit chances out on a lesser staff dmg is better and stats are better, contributing to more than just Atk %, on top of a nearly competitive damage rating.  If they'd made it so this at least took a Grip and blade it'd be marginally worth making.

Hakkon was a great amount of fun.  This staff was fairly so-so however.

Some of the staff crafting recipes make no sense at all.

Why does the First Enchanter Staff schematic provide Strength and Constitution? When Strength is useless for a mage?

Same can be said for the DLC armour btw, also allows strength improvement, ... for Mages.

Wow

The point is that Hakkon's wisdom is the weakest among the schematics from the Hakkon's set since all the other items have a better set up:

  •  Hakkon's Valour 24-20-12-8
  • Hakkon's Wrath 24-20-12-8

Moreover, in the Black Emporium there schematics that are all equal to the Hakkon's set ones, while the Corruption Staff is better by far than the Hakkon's wisdom and the silly thing is that the latter is tier 4 while the Black Emporium Schematics are tier 3. All in all they must have made some mistakes.
