What's the Hardest Fight in DA:I / the Dragon Age Series?

Calpernia is tough?  Interesting!  I always avoid the fight by getting her to turn on Cory.  The Samson fight isn't too tough, but that's after using Dagna's anti-red lyrium rune.  I should probably try doing both the hard way.

Another one that should be added to the list is the Florianne boss fight.  I went into that fight a little over-leveled on Nightmare and it took forever to kill her.  (My inquisitor was a champion and she had difficulty breaking through his guard.)  At lower level, I would've been stuck fighting that battle in tactical mode.

For DA2, I had to cheese Malvernis (you can break his AI at certain stages, letting you deal with the adds and then get some free damage on him). (I believe I used two potions for that fight, and I didn't even care.) And in MotA, the Sky Horror fight was brutal (I can't remember how I got through that one alive; probably sheer luck). I think the alpha wyvern was also really tough since I didn't have an optimal party (I took Aveline and Isabela, which meant 2 rogues and a mage who wasn't really built to ever help the party out).

The alpha wyvern is quite tough. Its pounces are the problem.

DA:O toughest got to be the Harvester. Those undead pack some serious punch. Only easy with a rocket launching archer. The only tough fight in otherwise pretty easy game.

DA:2 has Malvernis and Sky Horror. Only faced Malvernis twice because I wanted the loot. The phase with the 1562464262 archers is insane. As for the Sky Horror, toughest fight I ever had in the DA series if you don't have anti-spirit runes.

DA:I has Sandy Howler which always gives me trouble, and probably the hardest fight in the game which is Denam in "In Your Heart Shall Burn", those red templars are nasty without speciallizations.

DA:O - Flemeth, I managed to kill the Harvester on my first try but that old hag still haunts me.

DAII - Arishok, took me 40 minutes of running up and down the hall with occasionally hitting him after he charges.

DAIII - Storm Coast Dragon. I was able to solo two of the dragons in Emprise du Lion and had no trouble with the other dragons because they usually "take a break" and start flying around, giving me enough time to revive fallen party members and heal up. This guy just jumps around and completely destroyed me the first few times I tried to kill him.

The hardest fight for me was the final fight with cory. The story had peaked at haven and every stage of the game after was you weakening cory going from victory to outstanding victory that by the time I fought cory in the end it was such a HUGE anti-climax I had to struggle to care.

oh wait that's not the type of hard you mean...

definitely corypheus on nightmare in DA2, the fire in the area always killed me,

the area in DAO with the 8 or 10 wolves all abusing the gore move, killed my party in seconds

venatori mages in the haven fight abusing fire mines everywhere

and archers seem to be my bane in every game, they one shot my mage on nightmare, and they keep abusing the same move over and over

5 or 6 giants in the emerald graves in one section flattened my mage and rogue in mere seconds too

Fighting Imshael at level 10 without crafted gear. Sweet Andraste, every time I removed the guard on his pride form, he instantly refilled it. So... painful...

Never again.

OK, I've finished the DLC and there are a few very tough fights worth mentioning there (spoilered, just in case):

DAO: Uldred. The 1st time I didn't know how to use the Litany of Adralla so Abominations kept spawning.

DA2: Probably some spiders in some stupid cave. Never bothered to finish this one.

DAI: Druffalos

DA:O A the fade dragon on the tower.

DA:O GoA the harvester

DA:II Tediously long fight but that is,

DA:I The first pride demon.

DA:O Without a doubt, the Harvester, only because you might take some damage if you've built your character/party in a not ideal way.
DA:II Contrary to popular belief, DA2 is for the most party easy on any difficulty and yes that includes Malvernis, the Sky Horror, the Arishok and whatnot. IF I had to pick one I guess the Horror would be it, mainly because you don't expect a semi-challenging fight relatively early in that DLC.
DA:I There aren't any tough fights in vanilla Inquisition, sorry to say. Nightmare is only mildly challenging up to level 8-10 or so and that relies mostly on inflated numbers and potential level differences, that lead to boring, unnecessarily drawn out fights. After you get some basic skills (not to mention schematics/materials for craftables and the specialization) the game becomes exponentially easier. JoH introduces some gimmicks specially tailored to combat...craftable gimmicks (such as the wrath of hakkon debuff, poison from multiple sources and damage spikes among other things) but once you know what to expect, its encounters quickly devolve into DPS races or lengthy CC fests or a bit of both. Nothing new or special to see here.

Doing another playthrough.

I'd have to say the Pride Demon at the begin, if only because Power Creep on the Player makes other areas a breeze if you stick around leveling in lower places for a lot less time than you might think.

I think its most brutal for rogues and mage Inquisitors. Not so much because of the Pride Demon itself but because of the checkpoints that spawn two shades that are aggro-locked on the PC.

I don't know about mages but for my rogue it was simple enough to just hit Stealth and focus on the rift.

As a weapon-and-shield warrior, I found the easiest way to complete this battle was to go around the corner from the pride demon and focus solely on the rift, slashing any of the smaller demons if necessary.

I'm still at Haven - but the rift by Dennet's has repeatedly wiped my party out, on normal.

As for DA2 - the rock wraith, for sure.

DA:O - facing the consequences for stealing in Denerim.

Harvester Harvester Harvester!!! Hate that SOB! DA2 was pretty easy and same with DAI, but JOH's second last boss got to me.

In DA:O - The Broodmother. I died more times than when I fought the Archdemon!

In DA:2 - In Legacy, there's that one room with a bad guy in the middle and a supporter in every corner. So yeah.. that. Also the one you do at the Docks after the Chantry has said a bye-bye. Damn them bloodmages.

In DA:I - On a first playthrough, I was WAY underleveled during the whole game and did only approx 50% of all the game content. So the battle with Imshael and the Pride Demon in Here Lies The Abyss were horrible and after my 8 potions ran out, the only party member alive did nothing but tried to wake up the ones who were knocked out. Also bears.

In DAO, the fight I remember the most (and it's been 5 years since I last played it and I remember it still) was the fight in Denerim with a two handed sword wielding woman. Don't know the name, but she hit like a truck and I had to kite her with all my party or he one shotted pretty much all of them, even Alistair. I didnt play any DLC besides Awakening or Warden's Keep though.

In DA2, Hubris, Xebenkeck and the High Dragon in the quarry was tough. Arishok could be difficult depending on your character as well. From Legacy, I don't remember having much trouble, but in MotA, I remember a fight with a flying bird and a ton of adds. That took some time for my character.

In DAI, I think the fights that gave me most trouble were Ferelden Frostback and the High Dragon in Emprise de Lion. In JoH, the fight in the temple with Gurd seemed difficult at first, but then I just used Thousand Cuts on him at start and then focused him down throughout the fight. He went down fast after that.

DAI:

Killed every Dragon in the main game, then Jaws of Hakkon hands me my ass...

Yep.  Hakkon Wintersbreath Dragon gets my vote.  It got embarrassing after a while and I was doing everything I could do pull that fight out of my rear.  I stopped counting how many times that dragon laid me out in short order.  When I finally beat it - by the skin of my teeth - it felt soooooooo good. :)

Oh, hardest fight?

Any rift with a gods-forsakened Despair Demon.

But seriously, I just faced the Highland Ravager in the Emprise, and oh my god... I solo'd it with my tank for 80% of the way. I didn't even bother with reviving allies, because they would just steal potions. No grenades, and I was a level 22. With practically God gear. And yet this stupid flying lizard STILL hands me my own rear. The only way I won was War Cry + Unbowed + Walking Fortress combo and a last ditch effort with Mark of the Rift. Thank the Maker for dragonlings, even if the one I killed was glitched.

I just also had my easiest battle ever, against Vinsomer. It was tedious at first, but three minutes in, I switched to Varric and used his fully-focused super. I just spammed Leaping Shot, Long Shot, and Explosive Shot. The battle was over in 45 seconds, from 90% health to zero. I didn't even know who's effective it was until the health was a thin sliver.

And by the way, I never had trouble with Haven's siege. Played it from both sides, easy, just kinda long. Level 9-10.

With my lvl3 mark of the rift+electric cage+ seras thousand cuts +Dorians haste abilities...

Nothing was a challenge because anything that could pose a challenge would die in the "death circle". In fact, I used this combo to kill every Dragon in the game. Yes, I know it was cheesing.

Hakkon was very easy for my archer rogue. With fully upgraded cold resistance tonics he did no damage to me or to my party. Level 3 Thousand Cuts brought him down to 60% or so hp and rest was just tank and spank.
