I was recently watching the gameplay trailer for DAI and noticed something.

If you watch this trailer, you'll notice a lot of scenes not present in the game:

Scenes like Cassandra threatening the PC or Varrics moment or the last scene of the whole group were included 7 months before release but got cut later on. Does anyone know why?

Apparently at one point you were going to be made Inquisitor off the bat but were going to be more of a figurehead until later in the game. That got cut in favour of he whole Haven sequence as your lead-in to the role, which I think we can all agree is a far, far better lead in.

In general, I think the devs thought a very hostile relationship with Cassandra to start with wasn't going to be well-received.

One word "Marketing"

That said i think the Varric part is when you meet him right at the start, like the first time he is reintroduced.

I kinda liked the hostile Cassandra lead in more as it made more sense.

The bit about Cassandra, the debs said that they redesigned the intro sequence four times or something before settling on what we got. That's just from an earlier version.

Didn't one of the writers say they had to change the beginning of the game like 10 times? But even though alot of changes were made, I still like what presented to me.

They logged a bug about Dorian changing his outfit 10 times.

I think at some point in development the PC is supposed to have tried to make a run for it when you first pick up your weapon. A couple of playthroughs recently, I got to that point and spacebar'd through it quickly and the point where my PC picked up the weapon, instead of facing off the demon she did a double take with weapon in hand and took off, it then glitch screened and she was back facing the demon.

It's a shame they removed all that and the bit with Cassandra, would have made more sense for you to really be able to resist first off instead of the passive acceptance thing.

Someone needs to understand "prototype footage". This 'trailer' shows some 'prototype scenes'. I've seen prototype footage of games before like RESIDENT EVIL 2. In the prototype version Clair redfield was suppose to be a blonde and wears a motorcycle suit, the dogs were suppose to howl, and at one point the central zombie guy was suppose to call out his daughters voice in a cinematic.

They showed off tons of stuff that didn't make it into the game. Regions, areas of regions, battles, mechanics, cutscenes, dialog.

True, though its not like there was any uncertainty as to it happening. Everybody is calling us The Herald of Andraste, The Makers Chosen, sent by the prophetess to save the world and all that whether we deny it or not. Hard for us to be taking orders from the others with a status like that for long.

Yeah that scene with Cass was great. I think I would have enjoyed a little a bit more opposition from her at first, especially since you seem to really earn her respect later on. But I think I can understand why they went with the cut scene we got instead, considering it gives a little more exposition and context for the setting. They probably felt that was more important to get across, particularly for new players who don't know or care about the mage/Templar war, or why they should care that the conclave was blown up in the first place.

As far as some of the other scenes...a lot of them are in the game, they just mixed things around to avoid giving the plot away.

Frostback Pass. When they showed off the game last Summer there were saves in a region called Frostback Pass. It was clearly a functioning region in the game. Somehow it got cut and then we got a region called Frostback Basin 4 months later as $15 DLC. Hmmm...

Ohh, makes sense.. Lol. Btw, is somone from DAI: Jaws of Hakkon, is voiced by the VA of Fenris? Cuz they announced he worked with them, 5 months? Before the game was released.

Seriously? Because they saved in the area it means that it's a "clearly functioning region in the game"? For all you know it could've been an area in Emprise De Leon that got renamed. Or they decided to ditch the area because they had other areas to design in mind.

Plus you get like 10 expansive different areas, pretty sure we didn't need more.

10 expansive static regions. I think we needed less.

How likely is that?

We didn't need more. We needed better.

Arguable. For their first time using the engine (1), and their first time with semi-open world/exploration since BG2 (2), it's actually really impressive.

Personally I never tire from the exploration in the game, and I found some really well written side-quests that I thoroughly enjoyed and think the game could use more of.

I know what a prototype stage is. I just think that Varric moment and last shot of the companions would have been a good addition to the game.

It looked like the lighting/graphics were slightly better for that Varric scene and thus seemed like a pre-rendered CG scenes to me. That type of stuff is often used in marketing but never really released in games.

Unfortunately not everything you see is what you're going to get. Blame marketing for that, though. It's almost literally their job to fool you.

Simply put they had promised that there would be no difference between the old gen, next gen and PC game play. They had memory issues with making a lot of things work on old gen consoles so they had to go.
