Also yes you're right Lycid, we should all just ignore our political convictions and rush blindly into actions to meet the approval of a supposed grad student on a video game website who somehow doesn't understand basic grammar.

(This is a troll post)

"Political convictions?" lolwut? You realize that you are on a video game forum, right?

Lol, basic grammar. Unless you are a PhD in English, I probably understand grammar and the English language a lot better than you. I just don't care to proofread, or break up my sentences, because THIS IS A FORUM ABOUT A VIDEO GAME.

Personally I've known for over a year that I would not like this game. There were many annoying elements of the first, but I found it playable enough in bursts. I saw that there were many changes being made to the sequel and I knew it would scarcely be the same game. When EA bought up BioWare and all the promotional material talked about it being "the much darker, second chapter" for the 500th time I knew that it would be a streamlined cookie cutter game. This is why I didn't buy it. I played friends' copies for a few hours, realized that I was completely correct about the game, then went on the spoiler forums and confirmed the obvious and predictable story.

Dude, why are you even posting here if you dont have the game?

Ever heard of this story? http://en.wikipedia...._and_the_Grapes

This is why the arguments here are not even worth addressing. Some of you are ridiculous. GUESS WHAT? Mass Effect 2 is not the only game Bioware has released in the last half year or so. Guess what the other one was, and if anyone questioned that it was an RPG?

No, they didn't question if Dragon Age was an RPG. It was presented as such. I'm not for or against anything, but it's rather clear that  Dragon Age is an old school type RPG. I'm not sure what ME2 was presented as. I didn't follow anything about the game up to this point outside of playing the first one.

I assume people wanted this game to be like the first. They are entitled to their opinions. I'm just getting around and mucking about and there are things I miss. I hated the old inventory system, but I miss being able to change the weapons I have unlocked on the fly. That is very minor however.

Well, buying a game on blind faith sounds a little... naive maybe?

I can totally understand that the hardcore fans feels that this is not a real sequel etc.. And that it really just loans the name, title, and story element.

After that it's a matter of taste, I'm convinced as many have stated earlier that most players who actually are satisfied don't really give a s*** about posting their satisfaction on the forums atm, while players who are disappointed what to make their voiced heard.

But it still feels like many of you who are disappointed where completely surprised, and that's a shame really..

My list of grievances with Mass Effect 2:

1. Lack of skill robustness and customization - game does number strategy for you

2. All the characters act like they just drank a Mt. Dew

3. Stage complete screens are a relic from the Doom days. This is supposed to be an RPG series, not Army of Two

4. For that matter, Army of Two had about as much weapon customization

5. The carry-over hardly matters, as most have mentioned

6. Cooling rods appearing for no reason whereas world-crushing firearms existed 2 years ago without them

7. Space exploration quite possibly even more annoying than the Mako

8. Slower storm (at least it sort of works outside of combat now)

9. Subject Zero

10. Levels more linear than some titles in the FPS genre (basically like Eden Prime forever)

11. MORE UNSKIPPABLE MOVIES

12. Load screens in excess of elevators from ME 1

13. Highly predictable storyline

14. Bioware trying to be funny, again

15. Lame story excuses for writing away previous squad members, as if they're somehow less available than your new prospects

If you are, in fact, a grad student then act like it.  Respond to the content of the argument instead of resorting to personal attacks.  Quit presenting your opinions as if they are fact.

In short, quit acting like a child.

By the way, I loved Avatar.  It was brilliant and obviously a labor of love for Cameron.  Commercial success is not the issue here.  ME 2 feels "soulless" because there is almost zero continuity from the great character development in the first game and lackluster development  as you play through the second.  There are definitely lots of nice explosions though.

I found Avatar to be uninspired, preachy, lacked [good] character development, and too reliant on "shiny things."

Oh well, you think ME2 is soulless and boring, I don't.  I thought Avatar was likewise, you didn't.

Agree to disagree I suppose.

I'm here because I have Mass Effect, and this is the Mass Effect forum. I've played a substantial amount of Mass Effect 2, and got bored. Was that too confusing for you, dear?

One thing though, I can't really understand what there is to miss....

The fighting is now down to your own personal skill, and the sidequests are not just the same platform over and over and over again! The story in the first game took a little less than 20 hours to complete and then it was all these repetitive sidequests and the grinding....

I fail to see in anyway how this game could be boring. Sure you can be disappointed for not having the things mentioned above, but boring? Well if you absolutely hate shooters of course, but why didn't you heed up and looked at the facts around you before buying it then? It was all over the place that it would be much more shooter oriented and streamlined.

No, it was my way of saying "thank you" to Bioware for ME 1.  I never would have predicted the sequel would be such a drastic departure from the original.  Sometimes when you are generous you get burned... it just goes with the territory.

lycid  still can't give an intelligent response to what I asked. That's what is funny. Can you even think for yourself Lycid? Please lay out in detail why ME2 is what you say it is. I'm waiting.  lolololol.  People like you are all the same.  You are probably a grad student  I bet who can't think for yourself.  I dare you to get into it with me.  Please do.  :)

I thad erranous thought that "streamlined" meant that lots of aspects from ME1 were less clunky, not that they were gutted like a cornish game hen/.

So far I am finding ME2 to be far better than the first game. Do I wish that they had not changed some things? Sure, but that in no way makes the game any less fun.

I kind of think they watered down things on purpose for a couple of reasons.

A) Get the $hooters interested. (I honestly don't see that going well)

B) Dissappoint "us" now so they can re-do the original experience with ME3.(I'm loving it so far don't get me wrong, but it is missing abit of what made ME1 special)

A lot of the complaints in this thread are exceptionally shallow. I keep hearing about "dumbed down", but I have had to use tactics and skills more strategically in this game on Veteran than I ever did on Insanity in ME 1. The conversations are actually longer, the romances more "intense, and the combat more streamlined and interesting. I do agree the run ins with ME 1 characters were garbage though. Hey, I have been dead two years, good to see you too!

As for those talking about Liara and the like, do remember she is very young and developing as an Asari. The game indicates most of her race go through phases of stripping, mercenary work, etc etc until the settle on a level of maturity. She is a little rough now, certainly, and there was a moment when I felt like flinging her through the window but I guess in the ME world, innocence never lasts.
