This thread is created for those who need info about Hardwares (CPU, Motherboard, GPU, Monitors, Headphones, etc.) and Softwares (OSs, image/sound/video editing programs, error finding programs, Anti-Virus, etc. but no Video Games) and it can be useful for anyone.

This thread has two main purpose:

1) To answer to the questions and worries of users about hardwares and softwares.

2) Put the links to reviews, news, fiasco about H&S so people can be informed.

I'm not the most knowledgeable in this field at all! So with participation of well known Geeks this thread will be definitely enriched!

Problem:

Strange noise/whining can be heard when you start a game, with frame rate alters the noise changes.

I've searched around and from what I've realized by using "VSync" option or limiting FPS to 40FPS the problem can be reduced, but I don't know the exact fix to it.

Any ideas about it?

What do you think about Zalman fans?

I've got my new GPU (GTX-760) and won't get anything till 2018 when I want to buy my new PC. I hope this thread will be useful for everyone for decision-making and to avoid wasting money.

Also WTH is 'PhysX Particles' option in Assassin's Creed 4?!

I have around 50FPS with my GTX760 with everything else at max, but when I activate Physx Particles frame rates drops to 20.

this phenomenon is called "coil whine" and is usually caused by the graphic card. there is no way to "fix" it.

imo its useless crap.
it is supposed to make smoke and particles more realistic, but it performs horrible (it kills the fps even on a Titan X). just deactivate it and dont worry about it.

I think my new GPU, a 2GB GTX-760 is better than a GTX-960.

Higher memory bandwidth 192.3 GB/s vs 96 GB/s   Higher texture rate 94.1 GTexel/s vs 72.1 GTexel/s   More texture mapping units 96 vs 64   Wider memory bus 256 bit vs 128 bit

960 is overrated and a scam! Prove me wrong if you can!

the GTX960 is a few % faster than the GTX760 on average. and has a lower power consumption.
you just cant compare two different microarchitectures just by numbers.

but i dont want to say that the 960 is a good card or even a good deal.

but you really would have been better off with a R9 280(X).

I knew, but my case was too small for the 280(or stronger) card and changing the case needed extra cash and effort... <_<

They are going for seamless transition between devices. One operating system to rule them all basically, which is very beneficial for developers. Create the build for the operating system and run on multiple devices. Only problem I see would be UI optimization. Different devices come with different screen size.

They tried this with windows 8 but it was horribly executed. The interface was good, only for touchscreens. The surface is such a dope device but when using a mouse the UI is clunky as ****.

They're hiding and won't come out of their hideouts. We need to throw $ on them to show themselves! *sighs*

So at the end are wireless mouses (mice), keyboards and headphones any good?

The headphones seem to have some kind of vagueness and noise. The other two are good for mobility in your room, But how much battery they need?

Depends for what you want to use them and of what quality they are. Signal interferences can be a thing if they are low quality and/or used in an environment with lots of wireless devices communicating on the same frequency.

Wireless mice use power when moving/clicking. If you can remember to do it, they can be switched "off" when not in use to further extend battery life. I only use one for my laptop because it's not a gaming machine so the amount of use is minimal (looking up websites, opening reference documents transferred from the desktop, etc.) The battery lasts perhaps a year or longer. I don't remember the last time I had to replace it.

For the desktop and internet everything is wired because wireless can be flaky and I demand consistent performance/quality. If I was mobile I'd certainly lean toward wireless because wires can be messy, get tangled, collect dust, etc.

Ok. Here is a serious question. Would it be possible to make a program that stops ads on hulu by interacting with it like a firewall in a way. Basically, it would intercept the ad data and copy it to a certain degree. It would change one thing though; it would send the data back as if the ad was completed even though you never watched it. Is something like that possible?

Definitely possible. All you would have to do is intercept the request from the host hulu by running an extension in your browser or even a background service like daemon and send back the data.

1. I would do multiple attempts to unhinge the data and find out what is in there.

2.Use a tool to see if you can send back a request.

3.Write your program.

At this moment, you are basically reverse engineering the hulu ad protocol.

A few test tools.

http://sourceforge.net/projects/htt/for sending data.

https://www.wireshark.org/for intercepting and analysis.

Your program would have to be constantly listening on the port by the way.

This program can be written in any of the languages that support their own runtime and a HTTP library.

Ok. Ty for the tips and advice.  The idea occurred to me last night when I watched some videos on Google perhaps trying to go the Hulu route in the future making adblock plus useless.

So how much Overclocking enhances your GPU performance and how much increase percentage is safe?

Does it worth it?
