Hello everyone, as a long term bioware fan, mainly from the Mass Effect trilogy I decided to finally put in my RPG gears and try out the dragon age series, my questions are as follows:

1.) Should I play the first two games before playing Inquisition? Will a lot of story/plot holes be missed if jumping straight into Inquisition?

2.) What is considered the canon race/gender/class, if any. If not what combo gives the most story or extra content compared to others?

3.) What level is considered appropriate to do the Jaws of Hakkon DLC?

You don't need to play through the past games before playing Inquisition, though it will obviously give additional context for a lot of the stuff you encounter. They're good games, and I recommend playing them, but I don't think you'll be too far behind if you choose not to.

For the player character, there is no canon, and they all have some extra associated content. You should pick whichever most appeals to you; you're not going to be missing anything substantive.

And the Jaws of Hakkon DLC recommends a minimum of Level 20. It's very late-game content.

There is no canon, but there is a default worldstate (i.e. if you choose not to use the Keep to create one). In the default worldstate the DAO character is a female Dalish elf, and the DA2 character is a male human.

The DA setting can be a bit confusing if you haven't played the previous games. In that case I'd recommend reading Kotaku's DA beginners guide.

Just to clarify that in DA2 you always play as a human. You can only choose sex and class.
