I might know the answer to this already but let's see if anyone can surprise me :)

The question is just that , could you ever go back to the console version of Dragon Age Origin?

My answer to that is , well yeah. Although yes it be an odd experience sure , I would miss my mods that made the game a thousand times better but I do enjoy playing this game on the console a bit better then the PC. The reason for this is I just have more memories of this game on the Xbox and PS3 (yes I bought this game many times on different consoles lol) just sitting on the couch late at night doing side quests getting my billionth character stronger. Those times I had with this game were so much fun , being all warm in my blanket having my cat snuggle beside me while I defend the lands of Ferelden against Darkspawn.

Not saying people can't have those memories on the PC , believe me the game was totally different when I got a computer that was able to play it. I was able to make my ideal Warden , able to use mods to enhance the world that is Dragon Age Origin's. However imo with all that said...I'll still pick the console version. (with no disrespect on lovers of the PC version.)

Being able to just relax on the couch with your cat while fighting against the Blight is just so much for me then being hunched over my computer desk lol.

I'll say this now , this isn't me bashing PC Version I know it's better in every shape and form. I'm just saying I enjoy console version a bit better and if anyone is able to return to the console version after playing the PC version with there chosen mods.

Too many bugs and misplaced plot flags Bioware never fixed for me to even consider playing any of the games on console.  Plus, the controller doesn't work well for me, I have a much easier time with mouse/keyboard.  I did originally try it on a friend's xbox long ago, but immediately purchased it for PC.

It comes down to the mods. I can get used to any sort of gameplay, well almost any sort of gameplay. But the mods that actually make the game better would be very hard to give up. Give up all of the dialogue tweaks, the proper flag setting and the debugged cutscenes? That would be very hard. Not to mention all of the romance and wedding enhancements. And the greater choice for character design.

As Meghan Trainor sang: "It's all about the mods, 'bout the mods, no 'nilla" :)

I've only played briefly on a console at my son's house.  But there is no way I would ever give up playing on a PC.  I mod all my games, not just DAO.  I would be lost without that ability.  The console has never seemed all that great to me; although I do get what the OP means about sitting on the couch late at night with the cat/or dog snuggled next to you, etc..  That sounds kind of cool.  It does get kind of cramped at the computer if you play too long.  But, I still would not give up the modding capabilities.

By, the way, Mousestalker I loved that vid you linked.  Thanks so much.

This is how I was a year ago , until I got my new gaming PC of course. Even with the nice mods I still enjoy the old bugged out Origins lol it's amazing how some of the stuff isn't fixed. Try doing Dwarf Noble on the PS3 and answer you want to be shown as a warrior , they skip the dialogue forward a bit so you don't get to listen what Gorim has to say.

I have responded like that, no dialogue was skipped at all. Trust me, I've abated other ways and the dialog was no longer. My PS3 version doesn't have that glitch. Maybe because it's the ultimate edition? I also used to have the vanilla 360 version for a number of playthroughs before deciding to get the PS3 ultimate edition instead because I bought DA2 on the PS3 and couldn't do a save import across console versions. Anyway, maybe the ultimate edition is more stable and extra patched our something.

Strange. You sure it wasn't a one time thing?

If I owned the PC version, I know a few mods I would get. Mostly armor related, to make them more realistic and practical. Like a mod to make female Dalish armor not be a damned 2-piece that leaves their torso completely exposed for a blade to stab through them effortlessly, or getting rid of the big revealed area on the upper chest when females wear light rogue armor.

This-

Is much better than this-

Practical armor is best.

Heck, you can improvise. I have a reclining daddy chair for one of my pc. I scavenged my neighbour's discarded wood board and placed it across my armchairs. Total comfort!

That's how my boy plays, all leaning back in the PC chair (a very comfy, stuffed leather thing), keyboard across his lap, feet up on the chest next to my PC.  I can't do that, but how my game plays is more vital to me than my own posture while playing.  Unaddressed bugs with game play/dialogue, misplaced plot flags and game breaking issues (like the silverite mines bug) that were resolved by modders' efforts are more vital for me.

Armour of the Phoenix is a really attractive and mostly practical armour (The scout isn't but the other two are).

One of the many reasons why I rarely played as Rogue. The scout armor's never looked pretty or badass (aside from the one that has sleeves that one looks alright the one where it shows your belly, arms and legs... that looks dumb >.<)

PC gaming is not restrained to a computer desk and chair. It's restrained by the users imagination, really. Though I struggle to say it that way. You grow up all your life associating the PC with being a "sit at desk hunched over keyboard" type deal. It can be hard to break away from that stereotype but its still not accurate one way or another. You can game from your couch just as well with a PC. Wireless mouse and keyboards are a thing, afterall. If mouse and keyboard aren't your thing (personally I'm actually prefer controllers on certain games) a lot of games will even let you use a controller. Hell, technically speaking you could force ANY game to work with your controller if you're willing to spend some time fiddling with programs like Xpadder. Though that's understandably outside the scope of a lot of players.

Anyway personally I would hate giving up my PC game for the console version. Sure, PC looks better and plays better... as is the case with practically all games... but the modding, man. I couldn't give up on that. Take away my mods and wow, the game feels like its so much less than what it was when I played with mods. Gimp that further by putting on the console limitations of low resolution and framerate... ouch. That's like salt in the wound.

Here's a question. Did it ever take anyone a while to play this game on the PC? like did you play it on the console and then bought it on the PC later on?

It did for me , I'm not used to being a PC gamer so when I first played this game it was on the console so I was used to it more. When I soon did play it on the PC things were weird...I hated controlling the camera and having to hold a button the highlight things were just annoying. It took me 6 times of uninstalling/reinstalling of saying "nah I don't think I wanna play this/alright this time I'll really try playing it."

I'm not a PC Gamer so it took me sometime to get my playthrough going cause moving hurt my hand due to how awkward it felt lol. However soon after I did finally pull through it and did my playthrough :)

If I ever get a better gaming laptop than the one I have now, I'd have an easier time saying I wouldn't. Tha, and I have all the DLC on my PS3.

I only played 10 minutes of the game on console at a friends and this was years ago. I'll still find a way to weasel in a response for conversational purposes though.

You mention you hated controlling the camera... does that mean console version had no camera control or that it just did it differently? For me personally the controls felt very typical for PC games. Point, click. Scroll-wheel zoom. WASD keys movement. 1-9 keys for hotkeys.

Also it might be time to grab a 1TB harddrive (they're cheap now days, relatively speaking) if you really felt it necessary to keep uninstalling and reinstalling the game.

The highlight thing might be easier for you if you rebind the key from Tab to something like V. That should be a more natural reach during WASD movement. Or try out this mod: http://www.nexusmods...nage/mods/114/?

Finally, if mouse and keyboard are really that awkward for you (different (key)strokes for different folks I guess) you could try setting this up: http://www.nexusmods...age/mods/2624/?

Be mindful that it requires use of xpadder (you can find a older freeware version online, last I checked). I've used xpadder in the past and while it isn't isn't friendly to use, imo, it wasn't difficult. Plus with this all you'd have to do, seemingly, is load up the provided profile and you're good to go. Though there might be more to it than that - I cannot say for I haven't tried personally. I'd hate playing this type of game with a controller... ironic given that DAI only became playable for me once I switched to controller....

I discovered DAO when my best friend got it for his xbox years ago.  I tried playing for about a half hour, struggling through the controller in frustration, finally after making my character, naming her and playing through a couple of dialogues, running around into walls, I gave up in frustration, handed the controller to him and watched him play through the mage origin, with me giving him the responses to dialogues so I could get an idea how the story would go.

I got it for the PC within a day or so and played it, finding it MUCH much easier to control.

The reason I am more comfortable with keyboard/mouse is I started playing Everquest back in the 90s and then played WoW when it came out in 2004.  I was used to WASD and using hotkeys for combat, and found that Origins was very similar in gameplay.

Controlling the camera with the WASD was just never in my interest. I find that whole thing very confusing and often hurting on my hand lol. This was my first real game that wasn't a multiplayer game I played on the PC so for me at least it kinda makes sense how annoying it was for me lol. Also I have a 6TB hard-drive it's just I'm a bit OCD about things I consider wasted space , so I uninstall things alot and reinstall things alot.....it's kinda annoying.
